Adrian Peterson threatening retirement

The current CBA allows for teams to cut players without paying them money due on the remaining deal. If Peterson doesn't like that format, he should take it up with his union representatives.

What a freaking clown

I don't particularly care for Peterson as a person however he is right. The shift with contracts has become about the guaranteed portion. This was the reason we lost Murray. We would have paid him as much as the Eagles but we wanted to insure our interest by not guaranteeing as much of the contract as the Eagles did.

Basically Peterson feels he signed a sucker deal by not having any of the last 45 million guaranteed. He shouldn't have signed it if he didn't like it.....and the Vikings shouldn't have signed it either if they didn't want to risk this very situation.

He did sign it. So he should honor it. The Vikings didn't have the right to un-guarantee the portion at the front of the contract that was guaranteed. Peterson doesn't have the right to demand they guarantee the back half of it. Any other argument by Peterson is ludicrous.

His money for this season is basically guaranteed. All he has to do is make it to the opening game. The odds of that are very good. When he does he will pull in $12 million. How much more does he want?

The answer is the same as anyone would answer....how much do I want? As much as I can get....

It's more about the next 2 years though. Although if he dreams of the Cowboys paying him more money then he is kidding himself.

I see both sides of the argument. The way the teams can choose to not honor their end of the deal but the players don't have the same choice just doesn't smell right either. Nothing like millionaires fighting with billionaires over money. What a world.

It isn't about 'honoring' contracts.

Every contract in the NFL is about guaranteed money. Once the guaranteed money has expired it is time to renegotiate.

Teams cut players every single day that have years left on their contracts. It works both ways.

MINN knows if they cut Peterson he will be signed immediately, they also don't want to guarantee him anymore money. Peterson knows all he has to do is show up and they have to pay him 13m. Peterson wins either way. He has the leverage.

AP having a full blown meltdown on twitter, want nothing to do with this turd.

The first sentence I agree with completely. The second sentence is completely untrue. Plenty of players play out the 3rd, 4th, and 5th years of their contracts that don't include guaranteed money in them. That includes both star players as well as guys that aren't household names. If Peterson has a macro issue with NFL contracts being nonguaranteed for 100% value he should take that up with his labor union. If he has a micro issue with it he should take a look in the mirror.

MINN can cut Peterson on Sept 10th and not owe him a dollar. That is not a two way trust deal.

All MINN is doing is blowing hot air. They have not backed up any of their commitments.

Peterson is coming off like a spoiled child who is logic deficient on top of it.

The fact that he (or rather his grammatically challenged proxy) posted "smh" is another strike on him in my book.

This thing is getting better by the day. I don't think he appreciated Zimmer coming out and basically telling everyone that Peterson has zero power. The whole thing is being handled in a strange way. I don't see how these guys can come to a happy compromise.

What does smh mean? I'm must be getting old....

He does have a point though. A team doesn't have to honor a contract, but a player does. If a player is underperforming, the player can be cut. If a player is overperforming, the team rarely if ever gives him more money. Scandrick is a rare case.

The guy wants to be cut and be a UFA. All this whining about guaranteed dollars is a smokescreen. The worst case scenario is he gets $13 million this year to go along with the $50+ million he has earned since 2011.

I hate these guys that take their signing bonuses and then once that money is gone, complain about fulfilling the rest of the contract the signed in good faith.

His signing bonus was over 4 years ago and was only for 12m. It wasn't supposed to last the entire 7 years.

He has a very valid argument and it has nothing to do with good faith.

MINN would cut him in a heartbeat if he wasn't still a star.
