Assuming I've got my many years of normal life expectancy left ahead, I'd much rather see FO responsibility than live through a repeat of 96-2006 again, even for a SB or 2.

Dez Bryant may be prepared to miss 10 weeks of game checks

Before Monday, few inside or outside the Cowboys organization believed that receiver Dez Bryant would miss regular-season games, at more than $750,000 each under his franchise tender of $12.8 million for the year. We’d previously said that, if he’s going to miss games that count, he needs to say so. After Monday’s tweet from Bryant that he won’t show without a new deal, more people on the outside are starting to believe that he’ll give up game checks.

It’s still unclear whether Dez means he’ll simply skip training camp and the preseason (and still get his full $12.8 million) or whether he intends to miss regular-season games. If he’s willing to miss regular-season games, would he be willing to miss one or two just to prove his point, or would he miss as many as possible?

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, he can sign the franchise tender and return at any time up until the Tuesday after Week 10. After that, he is prohibited from playing for the Cowboys or anyone else in 2015.

If he shows up only for the last seven weeks of the season, Bryant would still make more than $5.25 million for the year, which is more by far than he made in any year under his five-year rookie deal. So while it’s easy to look at this on one hand as more than $750,000 that goes away every week forever, Bryant could regard at it as an opportunity to make more than twice as much as he earned in any one season to date for playing in fewer than half of the games.

It’s also an opportunity to send a very clear message, in advance of next year’s franchise-tag dance with the Cowboys. As of 2015, the Cowboys don’t believe Dez Bryant’s threat to miss regular-season games. As of 2016, they will — if he misses the full 10 weeks.

They’ll take him even more seriously if he misses more than 10 weeks.

There's some interesting contract verbiage in this article worth reading IMO.

I read that article and while him sitting out games would prove to the Cowboys he means business, I suspect him sitting out just furthers their resolve. They'll draft a WR in this upcoming draft, they'll tag him again, and if some team wants to give him a long term deal and give up a 1st and 3rd round pick, they'll take it. PFT seems to think that if he does hold out that will make the Cowboys scramble to get to the table. I suspect the exact opposite happens.

I don't believe for a second he is "prepared" to miss 10 games. I admit I don't know the guy but there sure are a lot of reports that he is the type who lives beyond his means. I would gladly wager the guy has debts he needs to pay and things he wants to buy.

When I first graduated college and started working, I had credit cards maxed and my next paycheck was already spent well before I actually received it. I bet Dez does the same thing, only he is spending money he hasn't earned yet on Bugatti's where I was buying groceries.

Keep in mind, the NFLPA hates the franchise tag.

And the NFLPA has money.

Dez could be taken care of if he agrees to take the league on over the tag.

There's enough discussion, so just answer with yes or no. I just want to see where most fans stand.

Should the Cowboys make Dez Bryant one of the top two Highest paid WR's in the NFL?

Yes or No

Highest paid in all time history of the NFL? Somewhere about 20 million per year or more? NO

I was speaking to the verbiage about guarantees rather than in general. Most of the Dez stuff is the same rehashed.

I was going with 14.5 mil a year but can add another half of mil.

Not enough to answer here. The tag would make him the 2nd highest paid player in the NFL at his postition if he were to sign it so does that count?

Dez could be taken care of if he agrees to take the league on over the tag.

And then the NFLPA would be sued for trying to circumvent the CBA. The NFLPA has a war chest of cash to pay players but that's reserved for work stoppages when the league and players aren't governed by the CBA.

If it came out that the NFLPA used this situation to circumvent the CBA they agreed upon, they'd end up in court so fast............

If a deal is not worked out before tomorrow and Dez does in fact sit out games, slap the tag again, take the picks, and draft a replacement. He will have already made 2015 about himself and is no longer a welcome player afaiac. Not a RKG.

Dez Bryant is no longer the honorable soldier fighting on our side. After the threats to sit out games he is a terrorist, endangering the entire season for everyone in Cowboy Nation. No matter how this turns out, I will not welcome him back. I hope he never gets his deal from us. He is cancer.
