Romo worshipers, don't bust an artery, but what if the Cowboys are 9-1?

Yes, I'm about to commit blasphemy.....

Just imagine that the Cowboys are 9-1, perhaps even 10-0, by the time Tony Romo can get back on the field. Brandon Weeden is the top rated QB in the league, the Cowboys have the #1 offense and they are on a roll, an inevitable collision course with Super Bowl 5X.

Their next game is Thanksgiving against the Carolina Panthers, 8-2, and the 2nd best record in the NFC behind the Cowboys. Homefield advantage for the playoffs could very well depend on the outcome of this game.

Weeden's rise has been the story of this season....

Do you sit him and start Tony Romo, fresh from an injury, his ability to perform at his typical level in question?

Suppose Weeden continues to excel?

Notice, I never said that Tony Romo would perform poorly, I never said that he wouldn't perform like an All Pro future Hall o Famer. I'm just suggesting that his abilities would be unknown due to the effects of the injury, still not completely healed, he could perhaps be a tad rusty.

If Weeden leads the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, heck, just mentioning the possibility.....

Would that be a good thing or a bad thing for you Romo worshipers.

And am I officially a hater for daring to dream that Weeden might actually perform at a very high level with this offense?

Let the paranoid condemnation begin.....

You put Romo back in and you don't think twice about it. He's been our franchise QB for many years with a career passer rating second in NFL history.

It's not like Romo is Rob Johnson. Drew Bledsoe isn't even as good as Romo. This is not a case of having an above average QB and then replacing him with a franchise QB. Romo is a franchise QB, third in MVP voting last year.

Don't disrespect Bledsoe like that. Bledsoe lived up to his first rd pick status, He was a very good qb until age and injuries kicked in.

This is stupid. Even if the Cowboys are 9-0 when Romo is healthy again he will be the starter. PERIOD. He gives us the best chance to win.

Are you saying there's zero chance of the coaches seeing
Weeden as another backup/Young/Brady reincarnation?
Well! I don't believe you!

My girlfriend says between the coaching changes, the lack of a defense, the lack of an offensive line and some timely dropped passes over the last nine years combined with some plain old bad luck, Tony would've won at least one Super Bowl by now. She also said early in the season he looked like a guy who needed some reps since neither he or the offensive line really played much in the pre season and by week four they would both be lighting it up. My girlfriend is pretty astute.

She also says I use her to express my own opinion to gauge what others say - I can't wait to show her my post.
Your girlfriend sounds like a definite keeper. :)

You know, if Weeden turns into Dan Marino while Tony is out, it will be front-page news around the world. We'll just deal with it the best we can. :)

I think Young Bledsoe that was coached by Parcells was a better overall qb than Romo. Bledsoe got to a Super Bowl for crying out loud. And don't forget Brady got hurt in his first AFC Championship game and it was Bledsoe that came off the bench and won that game to get them to the Super Bowl.

Bledsoe was way on the downside of his career when he came to Dallas and Tony was the better qb then but not early in Bledsoe's career.

Getting to a Super Bowl doesn't make Bledsoe a better overall quarterback to Romo. Those Patriot teams always had big time defenses. Clutch defenses. Brady never had to carry those teams early in his career like Romo has had to very often in his career. Brady did have an offense that didn't have aton of talent within their skilled players and they were always among the best and that's why Brady is one of the best ever. Bledsoe though? He's not a better quarterback than Tony Romo.

Funny thing I don't think there would be a happier guys than Romo if the Cowboys had a winning record when he returns to the lineup. Weeden is counting on Romo to help him through out the week and during the games.

I actually toyed with this thought... not quite to this extreme though... 9-1/10-0.... Throw it in the category of an awesome problem to have and we'll cross that bridge when we get there. If he beats ATL... we'll re-discuss. Fair?

no. he'll be what, 10% on the way there and it won't be just him that did it.

so the entire premise is officially butt-nugget stupid until weeden does something he's NEVER done before in his life. win 4 games in a row. in 2012 he won 3 in a row but hey, lost the rest of the season. in 2013 hoyer pretty much replaced him so that's kinda out.

so yea, i can certainly see that anyone with a sliver of honesty in what to expect from the man should certainly be salivating at the mere thought of him going no less than 4-0 TWICE or better.

of which he's never done.

but hey, anything to get a romo shot in.
