Did Michael get himself benched?

Michaels is Williams v2.0.

As a fan is sucks we do not know the entire story. There could be a lot of reasons he does not get playing time but Garrett will never let anyone outside of the locker room know why.

One thing I will say is that, in my opinion, the coaches are doing both Randle and Michael a disservice by forcing this 'by the book' running back by committee nonsense.

It looks to me like they're putting no stock into the players actual performance in determining who's playing, but rather going by some 'script'. As soon as any of them had a quality run, they were headed to the bench.

I'd very much like to hear those who tried to defend this committee approach try to do the same right now.

The script sucks and I totally agree. It is so obvious rather than riding the hot hand. It's actually getting embarrassing, the fans see it, don't you think the teams are figuring this thing out!

So how is Leary seeing the field?

Because Leary isn't missing assignments and has shown that he can pass protect.

A lot different from a tailback that doesn't understand his assignments and gets your QB sacked, stripped and injured for the rest of the season.

Randle got run over a few times yesterday, could Cmike be any worse?

Again...not knowing assignments is far worse than getting run over. One is a free shot at a QB going full speed. The other is at least being impeded.

And I'm no Randle fan and would love to see Michael get on the field. But when a guy isn't getting on the field and looks far better running the ball...it's usually a situation where he doesn't know the assignments.

Opponents have it ALL figured out. That's obvious over these past three weeks. Quarterback can't make any plays on his own, receivers can't play at all. Man-up, single high safety, load up the box. Lather, rinse, repeat.

That, or a coaching staff who sticks with the 'devil they know' far longer than they should.

There was a Christine Michael sighting yesterday, but it was another all too brief one. And it got me wondering why? He had a nice carry for 6 yards that looked to provide a spark, but right after, it looked like he turned to our sidelines and made a bit of a mocking gesture, opening his arms wide as if to say 'do you see what I can do?' After that move, I didn't see him in the field again and I can't help but wonder if the decision was related to that move.

Maybe he's just not that good. I mean Seattle replaced him with a 40 year old Fred Jackson.

Yeah but had that been Romo back there we would have all cringed!

No, it was a good enough block with any QB that has a clue. McFadden delayed the blitzing LB long enough but Weed has no pocket awareness. The LB went over McFadden and then fell down on the ground but and then pulled himself up off the ground and Weed was still standing in the same spot. Romo would have been long gone.

Perhaps. But it would not explain Michael only seeing action on 2 downs so far. If they were confident in his pass protection, he would get more snaps like McFadden.

I guess I'm just having a hard time buying that he doesn't know his assignments by now. Same as I'm finding it hard the O line suddenly forgot theirs.

No. JG said in his press conference they had planned to mix him in more but we got too far behind and we went into our two minute offense.

Jason "the game dictated that I could only put Michael in for one play" Garrett, LOL.

He waited for 3 quarters and 15 rushes by the other backs (who were averaging 3.7 yds per carry) before playing him when they were down by 2 scores. In that same series, he decides to kick a FG from the NE 5 rather than attempting to close the gap to a manageable 10 points.... essentially gutting what was left of the team's resolve to fight on.

It's not just about knowing assignments, it's about knowing when to stay in to block and knowing when to release. That's what got Romo injured in 2010...Chris Gronkowski released for a pass when he needed to stay in and block. The play called for Gronkowski to release, but he completely timed it wrong and Romo got crushed and was out for the rest of the season. Many RB's never get it and that's why they may be great runners, but never find their way in the league because they can't be trusted in pass protection.

The O-Line has been great in pass protection all year outside of the Patriots game. And in reality, it was only Leary that stunk in pass protection against the Patriots. Weeden, Randle and McFadden didn't do the O-Line any favors yesterday. But at least Randle and McFadden got beat instead of poorly diagnosing the play.

Yes, thank you for bringing some context to the thread. We went into four minute offense early in the fourth and that effectively took him out.

YR has to be right that the questions are about pass protection. I'd like to see him get more carries, too, though. He brings an attitude.

Tyron, Fred, Martin all started as rookies. They've been using new players like WRs Butler and #85. On defense Hitchens started 11 games last season. Jones is playing a lot of snaps this season. Wilson has played. Collins played over Bernadeau when Leary was out.

I will admit that they've been overly committed to Hayden and Free in the past but now they don't really have better options other than moving Collins to RT.

I should have clarified my point on the O line. I think the are fine in pass protection. Weeden has his feet planted in concrete most plays.
We certainly aren't blocking as well as last season on running plays. If they signed CMike strictly for goal line or short yardage they wasted their time.
