The coaches aren't to blame

Our play calling is gutless just like the head coach.

The team couldn't score a TD from twelve yards out.

Even when they kicked a field goal, stopped Seattle on offense, and needed to control the clock on a game controlling last drive, they ran three straight times. Once again, playing not to lose.

Gutless.

It's "conservative" - why do you think this is?

Cassel wasn't accurate throwing down the field today. He overthrew/underthrew every deep ball. That's what you get with a backup QB, on and off weeks, that's why they are backups.

Do you understand the concept of being too conservative versus mixing it up?

How about some bootlegs on first down if you're so afraid that your backup QB can't handle throws?

Why is there a need to continue to run 80% of the time on first down?

Bull****.Garrett lost us this game.We had momentum early and we could have scored a TD if we have gone for it,why are we playing so conservative when we lost 4 in a row? are we going to lose another game ? how is it different now?

I find it hard to believe that some cannot see the pattern that often occurs with Garrett. The same thing happened versus New Orleans (note the last drive by Weeden). You could see this coming after last week...they were going to have Cassel on a short leash. Turns out it was bit too short. Garrett and Linehan just can't seem to thread the needle between aggression and prudence with the backups. Garrett's coaching philosophy has been for the most part: "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush". He is certainly risk-averse, especially when he has limited personnel.

Being conservative to the point of it being a detriment.

We tried to take shots down the field. Cassel was off today.

I'm unsure where the trouble is here, the game was only a few hours ago. The memories are fresh. Is this more intentional ignorance?

The play calling is a joke. How is it that every team we face, they're able to get their play makers open with pick plays and we're not, nor do we know how to defend them? That's a coaching issue.

Yeah other coaches are creative. We expect our guy to beat their guy one on one. So when our main guys go down with injuries, our "next man up mantra" means that now we are relying on our second string guy to beat their first string guy straight up. It's not happening and we are losing.

Garret played on the great 90's teams with Emmitt, Troy and Irvin. In that era and with that team they were so good that they just manhandled people. Our 11 guys on offense would be able to beat their 11 guys on defense even when the defense knew we were running with Emmitt. Michael Irvin could beat double teams and Alvin Harper could beat single coverage. The oline could beat the defense's front seven. Those teams' offense relied on man to man our guy would beat their guy every time. And rarely did this fail. Example given, Erik Williams vs Reggie white both when he was a Eagle and as a Packer. Erik's job was to go out there and eliminate the Reggie White, and he did it in several games and playoffs. Another example, Kevin Smith vs. Jerry Rice. We basically told Kevin Smith to stop Jerry Rice

Garret needs to understand 2 very important things.
1. That team was built right before FA and the salary cap. 92, 93, and 94 we were 3 deep at every position. FA took those teams away (and Switzer didn't help either). This is a different Era of of football. Jimmy Johnson was not successful in this era of football when he coached the dolphins. George Seifert (coach of the '94 niners that beat us) never coached another team after FA. The NFL nowadays is not about your guy beating the guy across from him in a straight up. With FA and salary cap that type of roster and gameplan is gone. No team can do that.
2. I spent so much tyime on point 1 I forgot point 2. If I remember it I will post it later. But I am really happy with point number 1. No team can do what the Cowboys and the niners did in the early 90's. Just too much talent. NFL rosters now are too thin due to salary cap and FA. Garret please get with the times and ADJUST, ADJUST, ADJUST

The QB play is to blame for the loss as well as the conservative play not to lose approach that kept the team from scoring a single TD despite several scoring opportunities. The offense looks no different than when Weeden was in there.

Linehan is almost as bad as Garrett was when he called plays. This has to change or we'll never win another game this season..well until Romo gets back and does his own thing anyways.

Yes we did. At least 2 deep balls to Dez. I guess you didn't watch the game which makes your takes useless.

2 deep balls isn't threatening deep. Your takes are completely useless because you can never admit that you're wrong.

There's not a soul on this board other than you that thinks we actually threatened deep. In fact, there is a thread about the insane amount of checkdowns.

It sure seems like the other teams make better in game adjustments than we do. We typically keep doing the same thing whether it works or not.

Because the run was working? Because we are attempting, to you know, get our QB into manageable second and thirds?

Throwing on first down doesn't change Cassel's freakin' accuracy. He. Was. Off! Cassel was rattled, indecisive, and inaccurate all game.

I agree with your take on the conservative approach... would've been nice to see them take a shot in the end zone after Hardy's int.

I agree. Going to look at that series carefully. That was one I thought should have been a game-winning type of drive, and it was a disappointment.

I'm not giving up until mathematically eliminated. I see the potential with this team. Those who want instant gratification and are giving up are just losers. Enjoy your misery.

Instant gratification? We've gone 6 weeks w/o a win. Thats a month and a half.

Factor in that we're in year 5 of the Garrett master plan and the whole time we've been told to hold on as he works his magic rebuilding the depleted roster devoid of any NFL talent. When all along its been Romo's magic that gave any legitimate hope for the future.

The Cowboys lost this game for one reason and one reason only. Ineffective QB play. Not coaching, not lack of a RB, not defense and not special teams. Cassel just isn't getting it done and Weeden before him.

Really? Orly?

His run and punt offense instead of trying to win the game.

So, putting the game into the hands of Cassel is a win? The guy who looked awful with his limited passing attempts? Not breaking even 100 yards passing?

Cassel was an INT waiting to happen in this game.

I'm not giving up either but to come to the conclusion that lack of strategic prep coupled with lack of offensive identity played no part in today....

I can't subscribe to that.

They do.

95% of this forum knows our offensive coaches don't offer us anything.

You have a few delusional fans on here that bought into the hype a few years ago and now they are married to their opinion but anyone with any sense can see Garrett offers the offense nothing.

Linehan is stuck in Garretts system and all he offers is balanced playcalls.
