Somebody give that man an outstanding human being award.

Pfffft.

Pretty sure he has got a few of those already risen. Really wish you were old enough to have been a fan of the 70's Cowboys . It would lend some nice perspective to what we are watching now .

Staubach is entitled to his opinion, but his opinion isn't given any more credence than anyone else speaking on the subject of DV who doesn't deal with it on a daily basis, who have more experience with the gray areas that often cloud such altercations. Pictures don't tell the whole story, and bruises can result in a number of ways, e.g. self-inflicted or as a victim, buy gripping a person too hard and not necessarily inflicting blows, tossing someone on the floor or oneself into a bathtub, etc. The whole point of the investigative process by experts in the arena is to assess the degree and nature of the injuries and take into context the state of minds of both parties to come to non-biased and objective conclusion based on the entire set of events and not to use selective data twisted into sensationalism and vilification like the media has done in this case. Roger's teammates on those '70s teams had a number of sully characters, e.g. Duane Thomas who he handed the ball of to, just like many other teams did in the past did and currently do so now. If Roger was talking about how great a QB Hardy is, that's a different subject where he has more authority.

I don't player worship. I won't give two bleeps about Tony Romo once he's no longer playing. As I don't with Troy Aikman. You'll never hear me say nonsensical things like Player X will always be the best.

What can I say? I've always been a team guy and I never forget why I rooted for any of these players in the first place. The logo and laundry mean far more to me.

I can respect that . To a large degree I'm of the same mentality . Roger is an exception for me

I mean, everybody deserves a second chance. He has that second chance now. Let's see what he is doing with it.
By the way Roger, you don't have to root for him. I don't blame you.

Guess Roger doesn't also root for someone who said around 2,0000 years ago in Jerusalem about forgiveness.

Nobody's perfect.

Therefore no pro team or any organization is perfect...things distasteful will be found about that organization.

I wish for any given team, these kind of issues did not exist, but sadly they do.

That's all.

Except some teams get the league's blessing for their imperfection while other teams get unwarranted media scrutiny.

Thats all

How about rooting for Hardy to turn it around and become the best man he can be as long as he is on the team? Is that too soft or something?

This is what I don't understand. Instead of tearing the guy down root for him to get better and become a better person but nooooo, it's a pile on marathon at this point. People treat this guy like he murdered 10 people or something.

Safe answer, but not practical. If Hardy is en-route to a QB, Roger isn't hoping he trips. He's rooting for him too. Just like we *all* rooted for TO, regardless of whether we liked him.

What's it going to be then, eh?

What about after?

Don't care. Sorry, that is about as blunt as I can put it.

I stopped caring about players as role models and heroes once my voice cracked.

....Rafel Septien, Lance Rentzel, Hollywood Henderson, the late great Bob Hayes, and oh yea....Clint Longley. Everybody ain't drinking the milk and eating the cookies, but they were teammates wearing the star.

:hammer:
A hundred times!

On those same teams there was Roger and Calvin Hill and Bob Lily, etc. I have always separated the number from the man and will continue to do so until a perfect being creates a perfect being.

For Cowboys fans struggling with supporting the team and also supporting Greg Hardy, a Hall of Fame quarterback has provided an alternative: Support the team, don’t support Hardy. “I’m rooting for the Cowboys, I don’t root for him,” Roger Staubach told USA Today. “I’m still rooting for the Cowboys. I’m not a Hardy fan.” Obviously, Staubach isn’t…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2361406&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

I get the feeling that Hardy the batterer will segue into the foul mouthed, abusive, violence prone idiot that he is and will always bee.
Jerra means well but is stupid and he deserves Hardy, photos of a battered woman and here at his forum the thought that she COULD HAVE threw herself into a wall.

Shame!

And she deserved being battered and we should continue this proud tradition of hurtiing women, children and of being stupid and enablers.
Yes I get it.

And at some point we half to side withRoger Dodger or Hardy the Batterer.

Staubach be immortal. Hardy is a cheap transient in the Cowboys book of lore!

Well, of course. At least you can be honest about it.

Just kind of addressing the whole "best human he can be", "second chances", and other humanitarian reasons for supporting the guy. If you're supporting him for reasons other than him being on the team then his position on the team is irrelevant. If you're backing him because you believe in people getting second chances or want to see him turn his life around and become a positive influence, that motive should transcend his jersey.

Of course, nobody really cares for those reasons. They sound good and give people a leg to stand on when they (apparently) don't feel straight team-based support is reason enough.

Like I said, at least you can be honest about it. The whole Greg Hardy fiasco on this board involving the repeated mulching of information would probably have been avoided if people would have just laid it out on the line to begin with. But, they didn't. They hid behind the legal aspect, questioned the motives of the DA, and even brought up the fact that the judge who convicted him was a feminist. As if a person couldn't be both a feminist and impartial party in such cases. Finally when that fell through the pictures came out all of a sudden all his supporters developed some sort of altruistic conscience. You had some posters analyzing the bruising and providing commentary as though they are forensic experts.

I'm glad you won't hide behind the charade of "innocence" or humanitarianism.

Let's not act like the Cowboys are putting up with Hardy because they want to help him be a better man

The only reason Hardy is here is because he is one of the best pass rushers in the league. Just like Randle would still be here if he was one of the best running backs in the league.

Bottom line....if Hardy was a JAG like Randle, he would not be here
