Well, of course. At least you can be honest about it.
Just kind of addressing the whole "best human he can be", "second chances", and other humanitarian reasons for supporting the guy. If you're supporting him for reasons other than him being on the team then his position on the team is irrelevant. If you're backing him because you believe in people getting second chances or want to see him turn his life around and become a positive influence, that motive should transcend his jersey.
Of course, nobody really cares for those reasons. They sound good and give people a leg to stand on when they (apparently) don't feel straight team-based support is reason enough.
Like I said, at least you can be honest about it. The whole Greg Hardy fiasco on this board involving the repeated mulching of information would probably have been avoided if people would have just laid it out on the line to begin with. But, they didn't. They hid behind the legal aspect, questioned the motives of the DA, and even brought up the fact that the judge who convicted him was a feminist. As if a person couldn't be both a feminist and impartial party in such cases. Finally when that fell through the pictures came out all of a sudden all his supporters developed some sort of altruistic conscience. You had some posters analyzing the bruising and providing commentary as though they are forensic experts.
I'm glad you won't hide behind the charade of "innocence" or humanitarianism.
