Spoke to my insider yesterday

Man, those guys are clueless about building a formidable defensive line

Well, this all depends on what they really want. I believe that they ARE looking into Nkemdiche and guys like him. I've mentioned this numerous times in recent posts that Rod doesn't want guys like the Gilbert Browns or Ted Washingtons of the world - runs stoppers and nothing more. He craves the Suhs, McCoys, etc......big, athletic guys that provide presence in both the run and pass game. T. Crawford fits that mold (when he's got 2 arms). The reason I believe Hayden continued to start is because Irving, J. Crawford, band even Mincey were ONLY pass rushers from the interior and not better than Hayden vs. the run - a fact that is down right scary.

With this in mind, I could see them drafting a guy like Butler because, while BIG, he's also very athletic. Same with Washington from Ohio St. and the award kid from Illinois. Rankins and Day are fits as well.

Good points, I cant argu with that but our scouts seem to think it matters.

If it is not the system, It could be that our scouts love the size and athleticism of Wentz over Goff.

I hear you there.
Part of the issue in the past with spread QBs is that they have lacked every possible QB measurement.
They've often been 6'1" kids hwose DAd's coaches pread in high school and they ran the same scheme in college to the misery of college defensive coaches, lol.
A guy like Graham Harrell that college defenses had zero answer for.

But Goff is 6'4" and 215. That's basically Troy Aikman and the protoype.
He passed for 43 TDs with only 13 INTs. That's insane production.
DeShaun Watson had 13 INT in about half as many passes.

But we are hearing Dallas loves Wentz. No idea how they really feel about Goff. IT oculd very well be they don;t think he'll be around to worry about.
What Goff did in the bowl game was basically tell scouts take me at 1 or get beat for the next decade.
Paxton Lynch with the same opp looked very mortal and raw.
Wentz has never looked anythign but great but he's just never played in those types of games.
His biggest games are in Dalas ... but at a Soccer stadium.

Smoke screen.

I don't think they are taking QB at 4 and sit behind Romo.

Too much money and no results to show for it.

I think defense is going to be the direction and try to replace Hardy and and a CB.

we need at least 2 defensive starters from this draft if not 3.

then if things don't improve next year..

we will have another high draft pick to go get a QB and RB.

Defense has to have more talent.

The offense has been stocked already.

The injuries were a fluke.

Next year will need a pass rush, rushing defense and pass defense.

This is top priority..IMO.

Smoke screens are when the team talks to the media and intentionally feeds them false info for consumption by other clubs.

Why would an insider talking to his friend intentionally feed his friend false info?

Doesn't make sense because the info was given anonymously, no NFL club would believe it and thus alter their plans accordingly.

I agree. I will add you cannot expect modern day RBs to stay healthy enough all year to play at their expected level. So we just need to keep reloading periodically. I do not think we have to spend heavily on a RB.

Agreed.

Other than an A.P. or L.T. or Beast Mode you aren't going to find many guys that can do 300 carries a year for more 3-4 years. Their bodies simply break down.

And then you have the inconsistency from year to year. Look at Murray this year compared to last or Hill at Cincinnati this year compared to last or Anderson at Denver this year compared to last. Look at Doug Martin. A terrific rookie season, then crap for a couple years, then another great season. To spend big-time resources on a running back is walking a very fine line indeed.

Yea, I think Goff is going to be pretty good in the NFL.................personally, I would stay at 4 and take either Goff or Wentz, one will be there.

Again, this is all dependent of what the scouts tell me. If they tell me its Wentz or nothing, then I do whatever takes to get Wentz.

I just make sure I come out of this draft with my future franchise QB, that is my goal.

I disagree..............if you think Wentz is a legit franchise QB, you are going to risk losing him over a 2nd or 3rd round pick?

There's near zero reason to believe they have a large grade difference between Wentz and Goff.
Dallas has to play football next year and Wentz is very unlikely to help you there.
You don't give up some RG3 type package because it takes years to recover from that.

The trade calculator suggests pick 1 is worth a heck of a lot more than just 4 and a high 2nd.

The value at the very top is insane.

Its in the OP post

No, it's not.

First off, that isn't hard evidence.

Following your lead by making a brash assumption, if true, the post doesn't mention Goff at all, let alone his ranking relative to Wentz. And absolutely nothing about how scheme factors into their evaluation process.

have you been paying attention at all in this thread?

More than others it would seem.

It would be a risky move for sure..............the scouts would have to seriously justify to me why its Wentz or nobody for me to make that move.

From the OP post..............."Said the scouts really like him a lot and he does too. More than Goff and more than Lynch."

Like I said, try paying attention a little better next time.

AP and LT are so much better than there peers were it isn't even funny but the biggest reason to avoid high picks is even when you hit, it doesn't mean winning.
Those two have won only a handful of playoff games.
AP has won 1 playoff game.... his playoff averages are 22.x carries for ~90 yards and 1 rushing TD.
LT won 4 playoff game sin his Hall of Fame career. He averaged 13.1 attempts, 46.8 yards and .4 rushing TDs per game.

Bottom line is Gale Sayers and Earl Campbell could make a DNA baby and he wouldn't win a Super Bowl without a passing offense and good defense.
If you burn a high draft pick and/or pay big money at RB it is really hard to keep all that other stuff.

It is no coincidence Beastmode will be gone in SEA now that they had to pay Russell Wilson.

Yea, I caught that but what goes unmentionned is "how much more" .
Because if it a huge gap that changes things quite a lot.

I wish they would tell us we'd consider 2 or 3 different QBs at 4 but of course that would be heinously bad draft business, lol.

Excellent analysis..............you don't need a stud RB to win in this league, but you do need a stud QB.

That is why we need to take advantage of this opportunity this year because it could be a long time before we are picking in the top 5 again.

And if you are not in the top 5, if you want to move up to take a QB it will cost you an arm and a leg. Philly offered 3 first round picks last year to the Titans for Marriotta and the Titans gave them the bird. So that is another problem, if you have a stud QB sitting there, the teams in the top 5 are probably going to pick him for themselves instead of trading with you.

I don't doubt the discussion took place between the contractor and our resident poster.
But I think whoever was talking to the contractor wasn't telling the whole truth.

Think about it. Why would a Cowboys staffer reveal to a contractor or anyone the Cowboys' draft plans? I mean really. These guys' jobs depend on making the right draft picks. Why would you let the world know your plans?

I work for a major corporation that deals with sensitive and proprietary information. There's absolutely no way I'm going to share with a competitor any information from my company because I love my job, and I don't want to get fired.

And as an assistant youth football coach whose teams have played for championships, there's no way I'm going to share with my competitor (some who are my friends) any information that reveals our game plan.

How much more coaches coaching for the most prominent football team in the world? Besides only a few people know the Cowboys draft plans. That information is not shared with everyone in the organization.

Honestly, if the Cowboys are making a lot of public noise about Wentz, I wouldn't be surprised if the quarterback they're really looking at is Goff.

Stop bickering and stay civil, please. If you have stated you don't believe the OP then that really is once too much. There is no need to repeat it.

Great discussions people. The team isn't above misdirection either BTW. The temptation to get a QB this year has to be overwhelming since they aren't likely to see this kind of draft pick for a year or four.

I've got a full blown case of Wentzmania, doc.

let me preface this by saying I'm only sharing this with the board because there are certain members who requested I pass this along. Feel free to believe what I'm telling you, ridicule what I tell you, doubt the legitimacy of what I'm telling you or anything else. Doesn't matter to me as I don't gain squat for this.

The office I work at has a contractor who works on a certain project for our company but is also a member of the Cowboys staff.

So I Spoke to my guy. Asked him why I hadn't seen him in so long and he said his project for our company is about done.
He'll be around every once in awhile to check things out but not nearly as much as before. So that sucks.

Anyway I asked him about the draft, and like before he said he can't go into too much detail, but said we LOVE Wentz. Said we believe he's the real deal and that we've been watching him for some time hoping he wouldn't blow up the way he has. Said he didn't mind sharing this info because it's already out in the media.

Said Jerry really wants Tony to win but understands he's only 1 hit away from us being completely stuck w no QB. So the possibility of us going QB w the first pick is VERY real.

I asked if we'd trade back and he said that's possible if we don't get Wentz. I personally prefer to trade back and asked him what he thought, and he said "it don't matter what I think I'm telling you what THEY want" lol. And said they want Wentz, period. He also said the scouts get paid to know what they're talking about and that they say Wentz can make the throws has the size and ability they want. Said the scouts really like him a lot and he does too. More than Goff and more than Lynch.

I Asked about Hardy and he said it's complicated because Rod knows he's an exceptional talent but his attitude just sucks. He's been telling me this all year. Said reports about him being out of shape aren't really true, he was in shape, just late all of the time and just "did his own thing".

Asked about RB and he says they believe in DMC and expect him to be the guy for another year and draft RB next year.

Asked about 1 tech and he said Hayden needs to be coming off the bench but they aren't focused on a 1 tech specifically. Said they want big athletes that can move. I argued that we should get a huge 1 tech that can get some push and he said "again they want big athletes, period"
Says they are set in their ways and that's it.

Overall he was kinda cranky and I suspect it was because he wanted to go to the senior bowl but they didn't bring him. I wanted to talk to him more but he was on his way to "other projects" so he had to run. Wish I could've got more questions in, but I wanted to pass this along.

I know the Wentz fanatics on the board will probably appreciate this.

Thanks for the info. Dont let some of the mouth breathers get to you. There have been a few guys who said they had inside info and when things didnt go exactly as they said got ridiculed by some of the numb skulls that post here and disapeared. Dont be that guy.

I appreciate you giving up information, but none of this is really anything different than everything we already knew or heard.

Thank you man just hope Cleveland doesn't get him at 2 but him having good senior bowl and with a strong combine if we don't jump too 1 he's a goner.
