Counter Point to "Spagnola: Let’s Not Assume Drafting A QB At No. 4 Is The Elixir To 4-12"

As a graduate of Eastern Illinois, Peyton knew about Romo while he was still in college. So did Shanahan, who was also an Eastern Illinois alumnus, and who also wanted him. In fact, Shanahan offered more than we did, but Romo saw more of an opportunity in Dallas.

And Romo wasn't an unknown despite being undrafted. He did win the Walter Payton Award amongst other awards and recognitions.

But one, you can't support your contention that any of those drafts will be deeper (early word says the opposite), and two, the Cowboys draft position will make their odds of getting one worse, not better.

Despite the fact that, given the facts, it's not "realistic" at all.

Want a realistic fact? Nobody can see into the future, while it is possible to see what is right in front of your face.

We're not picking a QB at #4. Get over it already and move on.

Despite having a GM who perpetually walks around like he's drunk on truth serum, some people are having a really hard time accepting this. I'm still waiting for an example of Jerry, in the 25 years plus of being GM, ever trying to "smokescreen" anybody. Of course in theory, you would only get one shot to trick somebody, so maybe Jerry really has saved this bullet for one of the crummiest offensive drafts in some time...

A qb at 4 will not help this team win this year. Dallas will get a qb later In the draft to groom.

what player will, unquestionably, without a doubt, win us games just by his mere presence on the field as the number 4 pick?

Not a draft player. But Zeke would help the most but we arent competing this season so it doesn't matter!

That's a darn good question.

I would guess every team in the NFL is probably asking the same question about their draft position and what players will be available to them.

Certainly what (if any) players the Cowboys sign during free agency could have a big affect on what players could have a positive affect on this team in 2016.

If a defensive end isn't signed, then I would think a highly regarded DE would be helpful given the few number of sacks the defense garnered in 2015.

If a secondary player wasn't signed, then I would think a highly regarded secondary player would be helpful for a secondary that was a "car-wreck" in 2015.

First of all, I did not say that but let's say I did

To prove Romo is elite, can you give a list of 5 QBs you would call "elite" who only won 2 playoff games in their entire career?

I'll wait for the non-response from you

Fouts had three wins. Archie Manning never went to the playoffs. Fran Tarkenton won six playoff games but he also played on much better teams over that time span. Y A Tittle never won a postseason game. Neither did Sonny Jurgensen.

So yes there are elite QBs who didn't have postseason success including losing 4 SBs (Kelly and Tarkenton) or in Tittle's case never won a title losing 3 st8 NFL CC games. Or just didn't win or even get a chance.

Warren Moon only had 3 playoff wins.

I would say that Zeke won't be any better than Richardson. Look at the tape and tell me how many tough yards he had to get on his own. Not many, the holes were huge, not like what the NFL is actually like.

I don't get it why the spin?

Why come out and say you are not taking a QB?

If you don't like any of the QB's at the top of the draft just don't draft them. Why spin it that you are doing what's 'best' for the team?

Every couple of years when there is a big draft decision and a glaring need Jerry comes out and says exactly what he wants just in case the public disagrees with him, then the Cowboys website and posters give reasons why he is doing the right thing.

I remember the year they took Clairborne and Jerry was very much against taking David Decastro, even though there was a glaring need on the offensive line (Decastro was a pro-bowler this year). Decastro ended up falling the draft to #24 and is a Steeler.

I have no problem with the Cowboys drafting whoever the wish, but I do have a problem with the idea that they have to justify that pick, before it even occurs.

It's stupid to justify any pick to the general public, the Cowboys (Jerry) do it every so often and I think it is idiotic.

What are you contending is "right in front of your face"?

You're trying to dismiss facts and actual data for speculation because it flies directly in the face or your agenda.

My point is dallas is a lot of players away so take the future qb. Granted I'm not impressed with goff or wentz. So I say take the bpa.

Doesn't matter who the backup qb is if Romo goes down dallas is done with ginger as the coach!

Playing those predraft games teams play. I wouldn't rule anything out right now.

I don't believe that he is playing the 'predraft' game. I have always believed that Jerry believes what he says. He has yet to prove me wrong and I have been paying attention for over 20 years.

Yes, he is playing a game, the public relations game and it has never resulted in a win...

Right after Jimmy Johnson left it seems that Jerry can do no right and he constantly needs some weird public approval, It is unseemly. He constantly goes back to his small group of yes men (see Larry Lacewell).

If he is playing the 'predraft' game, he is doing a spectacularly terrible job...

Take it to the appropriate zone with this crap.

Last warning to everyone on this site.

LOL @ the spoiled generation of self perceived genius GMs on this site. Gonna be a FINE day when Dallas doesn't select and over-rated QB in the 1st round of 2016.

Most likely they won't take a qb at 4. Because that is not the type of move a perennial dumb team makes. Green Bay set themselves up for 15 years with that silly move but Dallas will take a CB with 3 ints in 3 years and that will certainly garauntee a super bowl for this win now team!! Lol.

..or...a Game Changer waiting to trump anything you've seen at the next level.
