Counter Point to "Spagnola: Let’s Not Assume Drafting A QB At No. 4 Is The Elixir To 4-12"

That's what Jerry and Stephen says as well. This is Garrett's last year if he doesn't make the dance. No need to get a QB other than 3-4th round
because Romo is the guy and the only guy that can possibly get us to the dance. If he goes down, no rookie is going to get us there. It's all
about the now for Jerry, Stephen, Garrett, Romo, Witten, etc. so it's either this year or next...

And this shortsighted view has doomed this team for over 2 decades. And will continue to doom this team for decades to come until somebody can start seeing beyond their nose. Absolute no planning whatsoever. Everything they do is reactive and nothing us proactive.

The result is a .500 record over the past 20 years. And it won't get better any time soon unless they actually start planning beyond just 2016.

LOL @ the spoiled generation of self perceived genius GMs on this site. Gonna be a FINE day when Dallas doesn't select and over-rated QB in the 1st round of 2016.

Much better to trust the self perceived genius GM responsible for the worst 20 year stretch in this franchises history.

Spagnola sometime takes a point just to be _ _ _ and this is one of them. His argument brings only data that he chooses to bring up. Since this will be the last time we will be at #4 for a while with a couple of likely good QB to chose from. I support the idea of grabbing the best QB at #4. I think that Romo will get injured some time during the year (say after game 4 for 10 games) as we all know he holds on to the ball too long waiting for a receiver to come open. We now have to put in the new QB into the game. This is the year to do that with a weak schedule, a great OL that is getting better, an up scale running game, and a defense that WILL be better this year. If the coaches plan on this and put plays in that match the new QB we can still go at less 10-6 this year and get into the playoffs.

My only problem with taking a QB at #4 is that none of them in this draft are anywhere near being ready to start a NFL game. None of them are Winston or Mariota and may never be. Wentz has upside, so does Goff but all of the QB in this draft need to sit for at least 2 years before starting a game. My choice would be to wait and draft Kevin Hogan in the 4th, 5th or 6th rounds. Sure he has warts just like the rest of them and has a quirkey delivery but the fact is he commands the team on the field and does what it takes to win. Will he make a NFL QB? Guys like Stauback, Montana, Brady and others had "things" that needed to be fixed to make a good QB yet they all command the field and win. I want a guy that wants to win not just be a 1st round pick or bust.

Personally none of these top picks in any position this year remind me of absolute elite guys. I would hope Dallas makes a choice that will help the team even if it means trading down a few slots. But for the love of God just stick to your draft board and take the best available player no matter what position because reaching never is a good thing.

"The Patriots way" requires a real HC and a healthy elite QB

We have neither

i'm pretty sure when he's healthy he's elite - he just didn't luck into a potential MVP two years ago. If you really feel that way however you should just take next year off since we have no chance.

And it will be when we are finally ready. Got it.

How about when the Draft dictates. Franchise quality at the QB position is the most desirable choice, certainly anyone with an unbiased agenda would agree.

This year of College showed us that the year to Draft a Franchise QB is not 2016, nothing since the end of the Collegiate season should have changed any sane view at the QB position.

Though the Hype Machine on this Forum continues at a high rate of disillusion.

Jerry has absolute control and really can do whatever he wants. What we have to hope for is that he is giving that up and listening to others.

Not so sure he has absolute power any more.

Jerry is a short-timer...It's now or never for him. He's gonna put all his chips on Romo and roll the dice.

The primary reason I ignore those who cry WE HAVE TO GO QB AT 4!!!

If the grade is there, fine. Otherwise go a different direction.

I'm telling you why they shouldn't, it's not the year to take a Franchise QB, simple.

Nothing "simple" about it. You seem to want to try to poke holes and find faults with all of the quarterbacks while trying to gloss over the fact that all of the other players have some question marks as well.

Top 5, Ramsey and Zeke I'll take all day, the rest are certainly questionable. IMhumbleO

...and the QBs well, it's questionable whether they are 1st round talents at all. Even Goff gets Drafted late 1st at best, in most years. Just a sketchy situation taking these guys top 20, top 10 is scary and top 5 is a lot of people willing to fail on a QB, solely for the sake of drafting a QB.
