If anybody should be pissed here it's Dmac. This year and now Dunbar will make almost 700k more then him!

This is all JG. He loves this guy.

This is a good, cheap contract for a player who was huge in winning a quarter of our games last season even though he only played 4 games. I don't understand all the complaining - who were you expecting to sign for less than 2M ? Dunbar is a nice role player for us who already knows the offense. I swear you all just want to throw a hissy fit for whatever reason.

Glad to have him back. He's a playmaker. Something we didn't have enough of last season.

Good Point! I hope the contract is full of incentives or else Darren will not be happy.

I'm sure Darren is a professional and I hope he understands he has made a lot more money in his career than Dunbar. If he really gets upset over something trivial like that...

You have not watched this team's roster management enough.

When we feel something is "set" ("The roster is set"). We draft to need. Not next year, this year.

The problem with assigning a "scatback" as an integral part of your offensive design means that if that player falls out, you are really scrambling.

And if that player has a specific skill set, and they go down and you have no replacement, you have a real problem. Just like last year.

He was the "Reggie Bush". Or for the old school folks, "Mo Williams" from Linehan's Minnesota days.

He is not reliable. Why sign him back? And then because he is on the roster, take the chance on replicating the very same mistake again?

Get someone more reliable.

You'd have a point if it were a long-term deal with significant cash outlay. It's neither. You spoke of Ervin in a previous post. If Dallas drafts him, then he could end up supplanting Dunbar on the roster. If not Ervin, maybe someone else. That role, however, adds a dimension to this offense that will be missed without Dunbar or a back with the same skill set. The player whose progress he's stopping isn't here.

So an even more limited role to justify a spot on the 53-man roster. Outstanding!

So what 4th rounder do you want to replace him with? Cause I know the first three have to be hall of famers or Jerry and Steven sucks..so just curious

He is coming off a significant injury.

This is the kind of player you move on from. And if he does okay some place else, good for him.

He was not elite. Ever.

Nobody uses 'Dunbar' and 'elite' in a sentence together other than you guys telling us he's 'not elite.' He's a role player who was lucky to earn his way on the roster.

What he does give us, though, is a player who puts pressure on what defensive personnel you put on the field because he can go into any of the WR pass patterns and run them effectively against run-down personnel. That puts pressure on defenses whether he's catching the ball or not. Players like that are valuable to have on your roster. Plus, he's got return ability for STs in a pinch, though we won't use him that way again, probably.

I mean seriously people, progress stopper? He's not stopping the progress of ANYONE unless there is another scat back out there.

This is NOT going to stop us from looking at other RBs, ones that primarily are runners. Dunbar has a typical skillset, one that isn't found everywhere in this league. Show me another RB that will come in, learn the route tree, and catch as well as him.

I don't know, maybe Ryan Williams is still out there.

Glad to have him back. He's a playmaker. Something we didn't have enough of last season.

One season. Playmaker. It appears we have lowered our standards significantly. It used to be that someone like Preston Pearson or Timmy Newsome or Ron Springs or Kelvin Martin was a "playmaker". Now it is Lance Dunbar.

Let's hope he doesn't decide to return any kicks from 9 yards deep this year

I don't hate him. But when he walks on the field, we all know what's coming. One dimensional. Cheap though, so, whatever.

Lol, what? The guy's pretty much a swiss army knife on the field. I suppose you're saying the one dimension he's got is in pass receiving? He's also a decent runner between the tackles for his size. He's a passable blocker (again, only for his size). He's a weapon on screens and on dump offs. He can legitimately run downfield routes. He catches balls over his shoulder for crying out loud. And he returns kicks on special teams.

I feel like you're still trying to get out of your blown evaluation on Dunbar in a previous thread. Still think scatbacks are easy to find?

None of them are able to play anymore, sorry.

Yes, because third string backs get so much playing time with every team. He's a scat back and he got enough playing time before injury last year.

Do you even think before posting? Also, take the constant negative BS to the rant zone. It's getting old.

Since you missed it: http://cowboyszone.com/threads/please-read-friendly-reminder.345087/

You clearly do not understand how rosters are constructed. If you have a back that is your "third string back", they better be contributing on special teams. It is a simple fact.

So do you even think before posting?

Don't answer. Just refer back to something that does not even come close to applying here.

I recommend a "Homer Zone" where people like you can frolic and avoid discussing topics that might be over your head or a little disturbing.

I'm sorry, I must have missed where this became a golden rule and "simple fact" that teams must abide by. There are different ways to construct a game day roster.
