Good. Now hopefully its Goff

Yeah buddy!

Get your quarterback of the future and continue to be one of this league's 'have's' at the most valuable position in sports, instead of getting cute, trying to outsmart the system and ending up as one of the 'have not's' in a league where even mediocre starting quarterbacks are being paid $18 million a year.

I don't believe the Boyz plan to take a QB in first round until 2018 unless they find a gem in later rounds between now and then. Many reasons for this. 1 defense is the priority we are in "win now mode". 2 in 2014 AFTER back surgery Romo stats 12-4 would have won NFC Championship if not for lack of pass-rush 34 TDs vs 9 Ints 113 Qbr 69.9 completion%. Top five QBstats. Romo still has way above average mobility. Great OL. Good run game. Really we are a few defensive players away from a serious SB run.

I don't get why the pro-QB crowd is painting the situation so black-and-white.

You're only a "have" if the players you draft don't bust. And with how much money they're getting paid - is anyone really envious of Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, or Baltimore right now? Having Joe Flacco is great! Having Joe Flacco and paying him 24+ million is another story.

If investment alone led to solid QB play, the Browns would be set.

Not sure Brown are the best example but I would agree that a high 1st round QB is not a lock.

True but Flacco is a vet QB while Tampa Bay Winston as a overall #1 pick is making $6,337,819 a year on a 4 year deal that in my view is pretty sweet.

Taking a QB is not about Romo, it's about life after Romo. He still has some good years left in him but some see value in a QB learning from a guy like romo rather than just drafting a guy, throwing out there and suffering through the growing pains. It's no slight on romo to plan for the day he is gone

Agreed its not a slack on Romo however drafting a guy in the first round means you wants that guy on the field before halfway through his rookie contract which means get used to the idea of seeing Romo in Denver or another uniform.

If that 1st round guy has to sit to long both will be in other uniforms.

This is my 2nd biggest fear. My biggest is the 1st round guy getting a massive contract on a 16-24 game sample size in which he showed just enough promise to demand a pay day, but not enough to feel good about it. I'd rather be without a QB than where the Texans are, honestly.

That 1st round guy you have to know what he really is before his rookie contract is up 1 year is a poor sample size you need him on the field years 3 and 4 this pushes Romo out in his prime.

And also taking in account our drafting position now verses where we would possibly be drafting in the next couple of drafts.

It does not mean the rookie must start, with rookie caps in place Dallas would not be forced to ship Romo out.

In my opinion when you do decide to draft that 1st round guy you trade Romo get as much value for him as you can. That way you know for sure that 1st round guy is future or not.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. How long will 1st round draft guy wait before he gets POed ? How soon will Romo want to be traded ? If I'm Romo and you take a guy in 1st Round this year Denver starts looking really sweet. I would want out ASAP.

Agree 100%. You don't ride the fence. You either believe a prospect justifies closing our current window or you don't. The "let sit and learn" talk is fantasy, which is why it doesn't actually ever happen for top picks. Start the evaluation process day 1. And if you're lucky, you'll end up like SEA, BAL, or SF, who all made trips to the SB with players on their rookie contracts. It allows that money to be invested elsewhere on the roster.

This whole idea of vey QB taking rooks under wing went out the window after they all watched Manning go to Denver and win a SB.
