Why no talk of Dak Prescott in the 2nd or 3rd?

I see some Cowboys fans are priming themselves to like the pick when we draft Dak.

I watched Dak play, and I just don't think his skill set translates to the NFL. But I could be wrong.

However, assuming the Cowboys don't get either Wentz or Goff, I think they'll pick Dak because he has the perfect temperament to sit on the bench and behind Romo for three years. I think the Cowboys want a backup who is not as ambitious to start because of the "Romo" situation.

He had just spent the day hosting a football camp for 200 kids. The speeding is... speeding. He took two breathalyzer tests and both turned out inconclusive.

Okay...why speeding? Did he deny alcohol? I'm hoping none of it is true and we know how the media, let alone I and other can spend half truths. However, why would the cops suspect alcohol was in play? Just wondering.

Dunno.

He certainly could have been DUI. Just funny that 2 breathalyzers didn't prove anything.

Regardless from what I've read the kid is well regarded.

And if he was DUI, I consider it a dumb mistake a of people make.

Prescott will not be around in the 4th or 5th rounds, heck maybe not even in the 3rd. If we do not trade back a little to pick up extra picks like a 2 or 3, then we had better take Elliot at 4, and maybe Dak or Hogan in the 2 or 3rd, or just do not pick a QB this draft wait till next draft could even wait till the 2018 draft

He's put up good numbers, He pretty much put Miss St on the map the last 3 years, strong, mobile. I see upside if drafted by us.. He can sit and learn behind Romo and take over once Romo hangs them up.

Pretty much where I am with him, third rd or later though for me. Hearing the Broncos like him a lot though, could be late second rounder.

I remember when Denny Green and Al Davis loved Quincy Carter. Classic Jerry Jones panic.

He reminds me of Tim Tebow. The Cowboys seem to like him and he would put less pressure on Romo because he will not be a 1st round pick.

Then sign Tim Tebow!?! Why waste 2nd or 3rd on Tim Tebow lite?

I don't think Prescott is Tebow-like.

Not that bad.

I just think he is overrated. A lot.

Simply because not a lot of pundits have been putting in work on the prospects at the position after the top three.

He is just the next one in line. The one you say deserves to go next.

According to those reputedly in the know, Prescott's limitations are his footwork and some inaccurate throws because of same. Like many young QBs, at times he tends to stare down his receivers, deciding to target them in advance. I think his footwork is correctable in the pros but that remains to be seen.

Conversely and to his credit, he's said to be a heady, dedicated and highly intense competitor with a strong arm, whose accuracy has steadily improved throughout his college career. He's also a highly capable runner who is quite able to break tackles in a fashion similar to Tebow.

CBS Sports ranks him as a 4th to 5th round draft pick.

I know we can't all be alter boys, but after watching so many little things by these boys becoming huge things...I have to get value for the picks...you mess up you get pushed down the board. Hopefully he learned his lesson but if drafted I'd still have safeguards in place and wouldn't over pay at all.

As it is, I think it's likely he's already lost a round in the draft, since he's now regarded as a 4th to 5th round pick. I think he may very well have been a 3rd to 4th rounder otherwise.

I never pretend to be a draft expert, even if I did watch enough of each prospect, I truly don't know what separates guys who can make it at this level from guys that can't. But I really hope I'm wrong on Jalen Ramsey and Dak Prescott because I think we're gonna take both of them.

Because he sucks, plain and simple

Do you have any specifics as why you think he sucks? Honest question, as I don't follow collage ball much and I don't know anything about him, other than a few zoners comments.

After the big 3, don't bother, they are all career backups at best.

I'm always intrigued by this opinion. Like this is the same opinion people shared on Romo or Tom Brady. People thought Manziel was worthy of a 1st round pick and that Teddy Bridgewater's kneecaps were too small and his combine results were bad. I just don't understand it. No one knows how any player will translate to the NFL. Sure we can guess but we don't know. The guy had a good college career. He has his flaws but we aren't talking day 1 starter. We're talking years down the road.

Here are a couple of comments on his weaknesses from NFL.com draft profile.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/dak-prescott?id=2555260

"Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions."

Or in other words, he has happy feet and stares at the rush instead of looking downfield.

"Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body."

Or in other words, his throwing mechanics are laughable for an NFL caliber QB.

"Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation."

Or in other words, he cant throw to an area that the WR is going to be in when the ball arrives, he has to throw directly in line of sight to a stationary target. This makes him pretty much useless in a timing based offense...........oh, wait...........the Cowboys run mainly a timing based offense.

"NFL Comparison: Brett Hundley"

That really all you need to know right there.

I don't see what the fuss is with him. There's a good 4 or 5 guys outside the top 3 QB's in the class who would be better options. He's a backup in the NFL at absolute best. Don't see the talent to be better than that. If you are gonna take a flier on a mid round QB at least take a guy with the talent to be a good starter, even if the issues make it unlikely he will ever reach it. You don't waste a mid round pick on a guy with perhaps a higher floor but lower ceiling.

I actually group Lynch with the rest and therefore don't think we should bother with anyone after Goff and Wentz. We don't need a potential backup type, we need a good starter or better. If we don't get it this year, then we should look to get a 1st round QB we like next year or the year after.

If you were to take a mid round QB, I'm starting to come around a little bit on Hackenberg. He will need the couple years we give him to sit and learn and work on his issues, but what he does have are NFL quality measurables and the intelligence as far as reading defenses that sits above the best of the rest of the QB class. He's fallen into some incredibly bad/lazy habits that may not be fixable, so it's a long shot, but just maybe you can get somewhere close to his upside which is potentially starter quality IMO.

Here's a really good breakdown of some of Hackenberg's plays.
