That's a good point. Lawrence Phillips tore up the NCAA and then busted in the NFL. I think Zeke has a great chance to be an outstanding back, but you're right that there are no guarantees.

Makes all the sense in the world.

Until you reconcile the comparison with the fact that Lawrence Phillips had severe mental problems.

Great analogy.

It was noticeably swollen according to media on twitter. Witten even mentioned he was making fun of him for it. Had to known something was wrong.

I think he tried to get to practice and pretend to get hurt during drills.....that way he would get paid

But it is hard to fall during no contact drills and players and coaches started to notice something was wrong

The team would have X-rayed the elbow MDW if they knew about it

They did a brain scan for Lawrence Phillips and for Ezekiel Elliott.

See below to understand the difference between the two:

Fractured an elbow catching a cell phone too, it didn't require surgery ... but I'm not a Ninja!

BTW, McFadden is not only a LOCK because a 2 Million rollover is nothing to a Billionaire.

Phillips is not the only college star to bust in the NFL. Tommy Frazier did great in college and then not much of anything in the NFL. You can find example after example. It's a no-brainer that a great college career does not guarantee a great NFL one. It could be because of mental issues like Phillips had or a career-ending injury or the player just never acclimates to the NFL. Do I think Zeke will bust? Absolutely not. I'm just agreeing with the previous poster that there's no such thing as an iron-clad guarantee. Do you think Zeke is 100 percent guaranteed to be an elite running back?

Ouch. Not the loss of McFadden. That just sounds like it would hurt.

Good call...

I fractured my elbow back in 2005. Came down hard on concrete right on the "point" of the elbow. Fractured the back end of the radius (the ball that fits into the actual socket) and splintered the humerus (upper arm) from the elbow about halfway to the shoulder. Real complex surgery that included a figure-8 wire mesh to hold the joint together and lots of physical therapy.

Yes, it hurt...like a mother...

When I read this story about McFadden I could only imagine.

And then, it was broken Memorial Day and he was still at OTAs trying to slug through.

For my money, this is perfect. It will all but assure that the transition fully to Zeke happens sooner then later.

I don't mind it from that perspective because I don't think Dallas needs to play like Elliott is competing with McFadden for the starting job. Put Elliott with the starters from the get-go and let the backup spots sort themselves out.

Now, that doesn't mean I think McFadden should be fans' next whipping boy. He gave us far more than I thought we could reasonably expect of him last year. The only thing that really concerned me about him going into this year is his health history (combined with his age). From that standpoint, I didn't think it was a good idea to rely on him without at least a quality backup plan ... and Dallas decided to do far more than that.

Whatever happens to McFadden because of the backs we added this year, I appreciate his play last year and a season that quickly went south. It was one of the few bright spots.

^^^ This. That's why I appreciate the guy to no end. He came in with a great attitude and did everything he was asked to, whatever the role. He backed up the underwear thief when asked to and he started and played extremely well when asked to.

Maybe it's just me and that's fine.it wouldn't be the first time. I don't see how it's possible, short of diving forcibly into the concrete. If I bobble my phone, I'm sorry, my natural reaction is NOT diving for it like I'm Dez Bryant on a 3rd & long.

like lots of other things they put out I'm not buying what they are selling as far as him breaking his elbow that way.

Dunbar can't stay healthy either. I'd rather roll the dice with McFadden than him.....

Okay.

I don't see how that has anything to do with the fact that it's going to give him a chance to try and be the one who stays.

I didn't say anything about who we should keep I said it opens a door for those two. That's all.

It's classic conditioning from all the "Ball!" drills over the years. Football players dive after anything that's fumbled: phones, dishes, children ...

In 1979, the Cowboys had to play without Tony Dorsett for a game after the running back broke his toe after dropping a mirror onto it. (Ego is thy name!)

Cowboys offensive tackle Jim Cooper was lost for the 1984 season after breaking his right fibula. Not on the field, but the dance floor at Confetti, a nightclub. Wearing loafers, he slipped on - what else? - confetti.
(Well it must have been a hell of a dance move.)

Cowboys running back Walt Garrison used to hold lighter fluid in his mouth and blow it over a lit lighter. The antic, however, wasn't quite as funny when a teammate tickled Garrison, causing him to suffer facial burns. (Hey, stupid, didn't your mama ever tell you to not do that?)
