Me and Earl and the dying girl.

Not a terrible movie but more of a chick flick.

As Above, So Below

5.5/10

Standard "found footage" horror movie about locating the gates to hell. Unoriginal with a weak ending.

Kingdom of the Spiders: 8/10 with the Rifftrax guys.
3/10 without. Not quite as bad as The Devil's Rain, but pretty darn close.

It's Shatner's impeccable acting that carries both movies, obviously.

Totally worth a watch, both of them. Providing you're drunk and your girl/guy is too on a very late Friday/Saturday night...

That helps. A ton.

Revenant and the Hateful Eight last week.....one simply couldn't stop watching and the other could've stopped that movie midstream with no regrets.

The Revenant was the best Western I've seen since the Unforgiven.

X-men Apocalypse - 6/10. That is probably a generous score. Poor villain(s) with no real motivations for anything. So much is done in the movie, just because. Magneto's story was predictable and rehashes the same things we've seen before. A lot of the characters are just going through the motions, and most of my score comes from two scenes. One with quicksilver and the other with a proper representation of weapon-x (though the entire sequence is pointless to the story and conflicts with scenes at the end of the last movie).

If you're into superhero movies, that's fine. But if you watch all of them and expect most of them to suck, I don't see the point.

I've criticized Bryan Singer in the past. Not this time.

Bravo, Mr. Singer. Bravo.

X-Men:Apocalypse does not match the savagery and bleakness of the original comics story it's based upon but it does capture much of its undertone. The lead-in sequence was fantastic, explaining what type of individual Apocalypse is, where he originated, how he manipulated others into devoting their lives to him, and how his supposed omnipotence pushed followers into despising him.

Singer built upon the foundation of Days Of Future Past really REALLY well, letting the audience know how the lives of the characters progressed and shows what those characters continued to inspire mutants--especially for Raven. I loved his re-introduction of Jean, Cyclops, Storm, and Nightcrawler. Same goes for the debut of Psylocke (Olivia Munn wore the HECK out of her outfit) and Caliban. I thought Singer didn't quite get Angel/Archangel just right but I was okay with it.

Best thing for me about the movie? Singer did not overly rely on Wolverine (finally!) and showcased the other mutuants. Hugh Jackman's cameo was pretty darn good though. Plus, he let the other mutants truly let loose in his movies. Good job... although he still shortchanged Storm somewhat but allowed the character to flex her power moreso in this movie than the latitude he gave Halle Berry in X: DOFP.

Side note on Apocalypse The Hair Stylist: totally appropriate for Xavier and totally unnecessary for Storm but that's the comics geek in me coming out again.

Finally got netflix...for now.

So I have been watching some movies (and shows).

The NetFlix exclusive Adam Sandler movies. For those that don't know. Adam and Netflix made a deal for him to make four movies that would be shown as exclusives on Netflix

So far they have two.

The Ridiculous Six - A guy's long lost father shows up and is kidnapped. The son needs to raise $50k to save him. An old west comedy and we see Sandlers character find out he has five other brothers from five other mothers and they gang up to help save their dad.

The other move...The Do Over - Sandlers character fakes the deaths of David Spade's character and himself in order to get a do over in life.

Both are comedies and if you like Adam Sandler comedies these will be right up your ally. They might not be as good as his earlier stuff but also not as bad as some of his later stuff like grown ups 2.
If you don't like adams sandler movies...don't even bother with them.

Swearnet the movie - If you like the Trailer Park Boys shows and movies you will like the swearnet movie. Bubbles, Julian, Ricky and Randy play themselves so this is not a trailer park movie although they do show them at the very end in the credits. The basic idea is that they want to do things the way they want to do them (no censors) and the network just wants them to do more trailer park boys with less language and clean up the scripts. So they decide to start their own internet streaming service and Mike Smith (Bubbles) starts doing stuff to get them into a mess so he can create chaos on video to drive up subscriptions. Lots of swearing in this one and some pretty funny stuff as it goes along with some cameos of some other characters from the shows. Again if you like Trailer park boys you will probably like this...if not, maybe you will or maybe you won't. Just be warned it is the same cheesy sophomoric raunchy humor with a lot of cussing in it.

Watched the last season of Trailer Park boys. As in the other seasons it starts off a little slow but picks up the pace later. Fun stuff with Snoop and a few others made an appearance on the show so that was a little added bonus.

Now I stated the second season of Dare Devil and have a bunch of other shows and movies saved to watch. Woot.

Netflix is awesome. They don't have tons of new TV shows or great movies, but they have documentaries and many older great TV shows.

As long as they keep the Star Trek Series, I will probably always keep Netflix.

Also, Anthony Bourdain's TV shows put me right to sleep. (not saying they are bad, but I can turn on one and go to sleep easy hah)

Sandler has made a lot of filth lately, but I liked the Do Over. Lots of hilarious moments. Plot was a little contrived, but hey, it's 2016 and Adam Sandler.

Also watched Odd Thomas which is "odd" as the day after it we find out that Anton Yelchin died. He was the lead in Odd Thomas.

Not a bad movie but for whatever reason movies made after Dean Koontz books are never as good as the books. Stephen Kings are usually pretty good or close to good as the books with a few execptions...Dean Koontz movies from his books are usually horribly different from the books and have suffered.

Odd Thomas is a character that Dean Koontz has made a recurring character and has wrote multiple books about.

He is a young man who can see the dead and also helps the dead get some form of justice in some cases. He also has some other "powers" and sees some other "things".

The movie was not bad but again not as good as the book.

Kind of disappointed as in the movie he had a life sized card board cut out of Elvis Presley in his apartment. In the books he would occasionally see the ghost of Elvis and interact with him in sometimes humorous scenes. Although the dead can not talk in the book and movie...they manage to convey things to him in ways.

It was good for what it was. I laughed a lot. I gave it a lower rating because the ending was tragically bad.

The new Independence Day
7/10

It was what I expected....corny, new graphics and some pretty bad acting. The sci-fi aspect arose my score to a 7, the only real reason to see this.

It is not one of those nostalgic can't misses, just wait for on-demand or cable.

Don't know how but I had never watched Human Centipede. Normally I catch most of the cheesy cult movies like this one but for whatever reason I missed it.

So the wife and I watched it. It was about as lame as we expected it to be. However it was a masterpiece compared to the second human centipede..that was explainable bad...the only thing that even held some inkling of interest to me was the main character and how freaking odd he looked.

Sinister 2. The first one was not great but the second one was worse.

Since those I have finished up DareDevil season 2 and instead of starting the last season of Longmire or starting the Jessica Jones show...I have caught myself watching star trek series. Started with Voyager but moved to Enterprise and have been watching it more.

The Shallows (3 out of 4 Stars)

Blake Lively in a skimpy bikini, some "Blue Crush" quality camera work, one huge, ultra aggressive shark and some very intense moments.
A bit over the top- no shark ever has this much of a bone to pick with any life form let alone a human, and a few "yeah right" animations...

A good thriller, and overall I liked it quite a bit.

Just Watched "The Witch"........Wasnt expectin much cause Im not big on Horror, I watched it for the historical aspect......Pleasantly surprised, great dialogue (which admittedly at some points subtitles was needed, 17th Century English might as well be another language) and acting.....different story....Ending was kinda lame but hey, all around a decent flick......
