My opinion, for what it's worth (and that ain't much), is Tony should call it quits and maybe work closely with Dak on the sidelines, film room, etc, and not risk any more injury.

We can gripe and moan all we want to but the simple truth is Tony has become a bit fragile in the last couple of years and, as a previous poster said, father time waits for no one.

I love the Cowboys and I'd love to get a SB win this year, even though with Tony I thought that was a bit of a long shot, but not at the expense of someones long term health who has meant so much to the franchise for so many years.

why did Dak drop to the 4th round again? wasnt mississippi state ranked #1 in nation?

i heard it was because of DUI deal but also about something to do with Mississippi states offense and the way it was run with Dak? whats this about? didnt they run a pro style offense?

It wasn't a drop. That was about where he graded out. Dak has the physical tools to do just about anything at the nfl level but isn't as polished of a passer, and Miss State is 100% spread out of the shotgun, which buys the QB more time to see the defense.

The fear for him coming back too early is two fold, to save the season, or to not get Wally Pip'd!

Everything is a 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' excuse. What is actually happening is a team with a quarterbacks that can't stay healthy. Who has missed 27 games since becoming this team's starter, far more than his closest quarterback contemporary. While other quarterbacks stay healthy for 10 years, Romo can't for 10 minutes.

22 of those missed games were in 2 seasons. Its not like Romo misses half of every season he has played. 2 out of 10 seasons he was out.

Yeah, plenty of times. Quarterbacks get hit all the time. And most get up. This one no longer does. That's the sad truth.
Gimme a break with the drama. The "that hit wasn't so bad" thing is pure speculation.

No, it doesn't. Again, none of the other quarterbacks in the league are even close to this numbers of injuries and games missed. None! And now he'll put even further distance between himself and the competition in holding this dubious distinction. It's sad, but it all true.
And again, other than two seasons he missed 3 one year, and 1 game two others.. This isn't a "he's always hurt" thing, its he had two bad injuries that knocked him out for the season.

Not wishing anything at all, don't try to project it. I'm just seeing what is happening and reacting accordingly.
But it doesn't make sense. What do you gain by benching a QB still playing at a very high level because he *might* get injured all so you can see what a rookie *might* be able to do?

Dak is going to have plenty of time to try and be as good as Romo is right now. Milk Tony while you are still paying him anyway.

Such a horrible thing to happen to such a good guy, he deserves so much better than this. Dak has looked great but we can't realistically expect him to start as a rookie and go lights out right away, he's going to make mistakes, he's going to have a learning curve.

I think the best we can hope for is Dak's ability tides us over at .500 until whenever Tony comes back, but what then? Will he be in shape to hit the ground running? Will he get another major injury immediately because his body is just done?

I hate this. Romo deserves a injury free year with a decent team around him to challenge and make a run at getting a ring, he absolutely DESERVES that.
This Sucks

Oh I think he's going to be back. Probably sooner than he should but then we all have to cross our fingers and hope he can stay up. As for letting everything ride on a rookie, that was Jerry's decision. He should have brought a vet in here months ago.
Dak will be as good as any Vet I know about this off season.

I thank Romo for the years that he has played for the Cowboys. But for his long term health it's best for him that he retire. We will see what we really have in Dak when the regular season starts. Romo's time is coming to an end and we need a young QB to carry the team's future.

I'm starting to believe that 2014 was his last chance. Hate those referees for ruining that. I think the Cowboys had a good chance to win it all that year.

I don't understand this line of thinking from some fans. Either you can play or you can't play in this league. So far Dak has shown that he can likely play.

Plus there are quite a few recent examples of rookie QBs who have immediately come in and played well.

Dak has an outstanding supporting cast around him. I don't expect him to perform like Romo in his prime but I could easily see him put up a season similar to Russell Wilson's 2012 season.
Same here if Dak is the next starter do him like they did Aikman throw him to the wolves either he has what it takes or next man up. And he has a better offense than Aikman started with. If they use the running game properly he should be fine.

He's had 4 different back injuries/ issues since the last week of 2013.

3 of them knocked him out of games. 1 of them was that slightly mysterious surgery to remove a cyst in 2014.

2 of those back injuries were for broken bones in his back.

Beyond that he broke and then rebroke his collarbone last season.

The most discouraging aspect of all this is how little Romo has actually been hit. He enjoys fantastic protection from the best offensive line in the NFL.

At the time this was highly suspect, but at this point I think asking the question about whether or not that was all that was done is well warranted. They may have removed a cyst, but what else did they do?

He's never had a deep run in the playoffs. That's not right, it's not. Too many weak *** barely mediocre QBs have rode top notch defenses to the SB (I'm looking at you Eli) when a far superior QB like Tony has had to endure absolute dirge around him and messed up calls from officials (GB, it was a CATCH). If there is any justice in the world, Tony comes back and get's a chance to do something this season.
