no your post was that parcells didn't think ware was good enough and jerry identified ware as the better player.

it was business. they knew merriman would hold out and talent wise they were the same.
Parcells also wanted to take Marcus Spears over Ware with their top pick. He was over-ruled. Parcells was a good coach, horrible when it came to picking the groceries.

Parcells brought in a ton of good groceries and created a culture where drafted players didn't get guaranteed spots - something sorely missing for years here.

I know this is the common perception but I think they like Rod Smith, I think they like his versatility. Last year and this summer they send him out wide and move him around.

I really am not sure either smith sees the field on offense this week tbh. When we go to that heavy 3 tight end set with the Tackle as the third tight end in short yardage and goal line might be the only time.

They weren't playing Rod at FB but they were playing Keith there. I can guarantee you that Rod won't play on offense unless a rash of injuries occurs. Keith I think has a fair chance to play at the F unless they try Swaim there. Witten and Escobar suck at it. Keith needs to improve his technique blocking but he is powerful when he strikes. Well at least compared to Clutts and Fiammetta.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/2005661/romeo-okwara

STRENGTHS:
Looks like a power forward with good height, broad shoulders and long arms. Despite his length, shows good take-on strength at the point of attack and pride in setting the edge.

Shows burst off the ball as an edge rusher, crossing the face of tackles whether he's lining up out of the three-point stance or as a standup rusher. Can stun would-be blockers with a heavy initial jolt and shows the leg drive to effectively bull rush his way into the pocket.

While his long legs slow him a bit when changing directions, Okwara accelerates smoothly and has good speed, overall. He shows a legitimate burst to close on the ballcarrier, often arriving with a thud, forcing three fumbles over his career and blocked a kick in 2015.

WEAKNESSES: A classic 'tweener whose high-cut frame leaves him a bit top-heavy and lacking the flexibility to change directions smoothly. Lacks ideal core flexibility to run the arc and get to the quarterback in one fluid motion. Negates his own strength as rusher with poor pad level. Inconsistent get-off on the snap, too often being the last defender off the ball.

Looks robotic on the field, showing little anticipation and too often getting caught up by blocks when pursuing downfield. Has to learn to use his hands better to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage. Despite his height, long arms and opportunities in coverage, Okwara has only one pass defensed in 42 career games (including 26 starts).

IN OUR VIEW: Okwara possesses some exciting traits that will appeal to proponents of the 4-3 and 3-4 alike, but he's clearly a project who will require significant patience.

So now we are complaining about wasting 6th round picks lol...... Let me tell you if the biggest gripe you have about a organization is that it wastes 6th rounders than you don't really have a gripe at all.

True.

in this case gathers is neither which is my beef.

Gathers is still being developed. He is raw as rain but he has improved. I'm going to wait and see before I give up. Next PS we can see where he is. Instant evaluations for people still in the organization are premature.

Defensive pro bowls drafted

'03-'06 (Parcells): 16 (4 players)
'07-'10 (Phillips): 3 (3 players)
'11-'15 (Garrett): 0

offensive pro bowlers drafted

'03-'06 (Parcells): 2
'07-'10 (Phillips): 1
'11-'15 (Garrett): 4

all about allocating resources. not saying it's right or wrong but when you spend most of your first round picks on offensive players, you get offensive pro bowlers.

He wasn't horrible he was just as inconsistent as most guys in this league. He had good reasons for why he wanted Spears. I don't even consider him a bad pick. It's the Carpenter pick that was terrible. Spears at least was a capable starter.

I agree on the culture particularly when it comes to training but the picks tied to Parcells like Carpenter, Rogers, Johnson, and Spears all ended up being disappointing to one degree or another. That and the KR du jour wasted pick.

no it doesn't. read what jeff ireland said. Spears was the lynch pin to playing the 34. He wanted a leonard marshall and thought only spears fit that role.

and saying he got mad at a personnel meeting is like saying water is wet.

The Johnson pick fortunately didn't cost them Witten, which is who the scouts were begging for.

It says he got mad when they told them they were picking Ware over Spears specifically, theebs, and that he stewed when Ware was picked over being overruled. It is what it is. He wanted Spears at all costs.

yes but when he missed on guys like carpenter in 06 he hit on miles austin, sam hurd. In 04 they missed on rogers and hit on crayton late.

Their was a consistent pattern of adding talent in Free Agency, the draft and post draft that we have not seen here in a while.

anyway this is off topic and old news.

Part of me believes they are keeping Rod around to keep his injury-recovering, blue-chip brother, Jaylon, happy.
