Crawford to DE?

He produces nothing at DT and we have nothing at DE so why not.
Heck David Irving gets eaten up at DE. So I would rather see Crawford give it a shot and move Irving back inside.

Never understood moving Irving outside. Yes, he is tall. And? The proof is in the pudding and this guy thrives on the inside.

Wait is this more than speculation? That Crawford is going to play a lot more DE?

Also it would be another mark against the supposed greatness of Rod Marinelli if it turned out Irving was a better 3 Tech than DE and Crawford was a better DE than 3 Tech.

I tend to agree, moving Irving outside is a bit of an indictment on his ability to think outside the box. This one switch would greatly improve the effectiveness of this defensive line. Seems like they just look at Irving's frame and believe he MUST be a DE, without recognizing the more subtle reasons why he is great on the interior.

Moving Irving inside I also believe he would better there, move Crawford to LDE we have to get creative

Should we move to Tyrone Crawford to DE? We played him there in the second half against Washington and he played pretty well including that sack where he just completely abused the RT. On top of that here's an interesting tweet he said after the game.

He is not very good at DT so I say yes.

As everyone knows since I beat the living poop out of that horse, I think the DL is pretty average to below average and that the front office totally botched improving the defense.

However............. I'd feel a bit better about our DL going forward with Crawford at DE and Irving and Collins working at the 3 Tech. I think our DEs are that terrible besides Lawrence that I think Crawford would actually improve the DE play. Then if you get lucky with Tapper (any chatter on when he might play?), suddenly the DL isn't a total wasteland.

One other thing that has to happen............... Thornton has to start playing much better. If he picks up his game, that gives you some options at DT. You can go bigger with him and McClain together, for example.

If moving Crawford to DE helps in getting a pass rush then keep him outside. Cowboys can't allow QB to have all day in the pocket.

Haven't paid attention to Seattle's alignment this year but when Mebane was there he played LDE as a 5 technique mostly. Basically just two gapping that side, he was a beast there and it worked well. But, they also used Irvin and Clemons/Avril I think as "LEO" type strongside backers to rush the passer.

They also had a ton of talent so being creative was easy. We don't have a pass rush and Wilber/whoever aren't near those guys caliber.

But, once Lawrence comes back, playing around with TC at end and Irving at DT or McClain/Thornton on run downs would be worth an experiment in my opinion at least. At the very least it might be stout against the run.

Not sure how many snaps Irving has had at DT but he was efficient in the snaps he got last year, we have to find a way to generate some kind of pass rush occasionally and get more production out of the DL. Maybe Collins will show enough to warrant attention at some point. I hope.

I think you are confusing Red Bryant with Brandon Mebane. Mebane was a 1T in Seattle. Bryant played LDE.

Personally, I don't think that Tyrone Crawford hasn't put the time and effort in to be a great player. By most accounts, he's a hard worker.

But, as a 285 pound DT, he is going to take a pounding. He has torn an Achilles, had a torn labrum last year, and now has a bad back. Playing him at end where he wouldn't have to absorb double teams will put less stress on his already banged up body, and allow him to contribute more.

We will be dissapointed watching him move to DE. He just doesn't have the agility and burst for an edge rusher. I just don't think he's healthy, and I don't think he's a scheme fit. He's a perfect 3-4 DE.

He has very good quickness for his size and his balance and lean is above average. The speed to power move he put on Moses was money. We all know he is strong.

Or they know he's better inside, but have a greater need on the edge.

He's not an edge rusher. But I suspect he's a much better SDE than DT.

As I said earlier, Collins will be our starting 3-tech. really soon if not now. He's # 311, and is playing himself into form after being injured and no training camp. Why Crawford has been playing at # 285 inside is crazy. Thought he would have beefed up this off season during his rehab. But has not. We don't know what Marinelli has told him about his weight but whatever it is, its not working. Thornton is the backup 1-tech to McClain, and unless he starts playing better - he will remain the backup.
