That would be great.....plus he could stay on as an assistant coach helping out Dak and the offense and win some SB rings as a coach. Might even help his HOF credentials. Would not mind that at all.
And who knows? If Dak starts struggling or gets hurt, we have a guy plenty capable to step right in. WIN/WIN

The fact is Romo gets blamed for what JERRY JONES did to him from 2006 to 2011. Not until Jason Garrett took over & Stephen Jones took more control did this organization finally stop listening to the hype and draft seriously to put a great OLine in front of him and give him a valid rushing attack to take pressure off of him.

Jerry believed all the hype about our great OLine and how Dallas was on the cusp of a Super Bowl following that 13-3 2007 season. It took the epic collapse in the playoffs vs Minnesota, followed by the horror of the 2010 season to finally make Jerry realize he STILL didn't know what he was doing and he'd just wasted the last 4 years of Tony's career.

It's not a coincidence that Jason Garrett's promotion to head coach & Stephen Jones' taking far more responsibility in running the front office immediately produced 3 #1st round draft picks of offensive lineman, something that had NEVER happened since Jerry bought the team.

Romo spent 2006-2010 running for his life back there on 1/2 the passing plays while Jerry was chortling about how he'd built the best offensive line in pro football. There was no real consistent running game either, despite all the hype about Marion Barber, Felix Jones and other RB's.

Not until 2014 with the 3rd piece of the OLine puzzle dropping into place with Zack Martin joining Travis Frederick & Tyron Smith did Romo finally have an offensive line in front of him that meant he could sit back in the pocket & start picking teams apart without having to run around so much.

That was also the year DeMarco Murray finally put it all together and stayed healthy all season and a hugely improved rushing attack provided the kind of balanced offense Dallas needed to take pressure off of Romo, who too often from 2006-2013 was being asked to work miracles late in games due to substandard Cowboys defenses that couldn't stop anybody.

This last draft, with the addition of Ezekiel Elliott, and the development of some previous defensive players like Maurice Claiborne, Byron Jones & a healthy Sean Lee could push Dallas into being the perennial playoff contender Jerry thought he had back in 2007.

The sad thing is, it may have taken Jerry too long to quit listening to the hype and let Stephen and Garrett build a solid balanced offense around Romo. 2006-2010, 5 seasons were wasted. Jerry mistook Romo carrying this team on his back to the playoffs in 2006, 2007 and 2009 to mean it was going to be a perennial contender.

Now that Garrett and Stephen Jones finally have a team built up that can carry it's own weight instead of relying on Romo The Miracle Worker, Tony might only get to play on it for just 1 more year or two.

And I gotta come on this board and listen to stupid fans blather that Romo is the one who's been holding this team back from playoff glory or something.

Dak has stepped into a fantastic situation here and he knows it. He knows this offense was built for Romo, not for him. The team's finally built up to protect and complement it's QB with a fantastic running game and a great OLine and a budding young defense and it could be Tony never gets to drive it, the keys get handed to Dak.

Dak knows how fortunate he is and what a raw deal it would be for Tony to never get to drive this offense that's finally ready to go all the way.

I think the absolute best case scenario would be this...

Dak continues to impress and let's say at one point we're like 10-2, but then he proves he's human and drops 2 games. We're 10-4. Romo comes in, we win the final two games, finish 12-4. Romo is the QB in the playoffs. We win the Super Bowl. Romo gets his ring. The following season Romo remains the starter. Assuming we don't repeat as champs, let Dak take over the following year. Then Dak eventually wins one or multiple titles within the next 10 years. Cowboys surpass the Steelers for most Super Bowl championships with 7. Romo gets the credit he deserves, gets into the hall of fame. Everything is right in the world.

Loved the "Roy Hobbs" reference to #9. Romo could have been the greatest, still hope he gets his chance under the bright lights of the super bowl this year out gunning Brady.

The line wasn't bad from 2006-2009....and, of course, the team had a good record all four years....imagine that.
It went down fast after that and really wasn't getting good until late 2013.
It wasn't real good until 2014 thru now.

But really, that 2007 , though old, the line was good. And although they've only had a good defense maybe 2-3 years of his entire career, that 2007 was good too.
I know it was only his 2nd year starting and he much smarter overall now, but that was the best team and best chance to maybe get tot eh SB.
Undefeated NE was a huge favorite anyway--but we saw how that ended. He actually had a better game vs the Giants than Brady did in those playoffs...still lost though.

Tony Romo is going no where. That's right, the bench has worked out perfectly!

I kid. Love Romo. Love Dakota. Just want to continue the momentum without having to lose games due to lack of continuity.

Don´t know if it was posted before but a great article on Romo after the injury, this isn´t meant to be a Romo vs Dak thread, just an appreciation for Tony....

When the news began to leak—when America first learned Tony Romo was injured again—the Dallas Cowboys quarterback was in the living room of his $9 million home, surrounded by friends and family members who didn’t quite know how to act.

Or what to say.

It was just before noon on the final Saturday of August, and an MRI on Friday had revealed that Romo had suffered a compression fracture in his back while absorbing a hit from Seattle’s Cliff Avril in a preseason game Thursday night.

The injury, doctors said, would force Romo to miss the first six to 10 weeks of the season, a prognosis that still had the four-time Pro Bowler rattled when longtime friend Nick Sekeres and others arrived to console him.

“His soul was crushed,” Sekeres said. “It was like walking into a funeral.”

The Cowboys announced Romo’s injury via a conference call with head coach Jason Garrett just before lunch. Almost immediately, phones throughout Romo's home began to vibrate. Romo was mostly silent as replays of him writhing in pain flashed across the television screen. Then something hit him.

"I've gotta call Dak," Romo said.

That line couldn't run block from 2006-2010. Recall what a regular sight it was back then to watch Marion Barber, Tashard Choice, Julius Jones or Felix Jones get dropped in the backfield about 5-6 times a game. The reason Garrett developed a reputation for abandoning the run too early was because we often weren't moving the ball on the ground.

The offense was way too one dimensional with Romo airing it out, and yet even despite that, even with the Cowboys defense still handing away lead after lead in the 2nd half of games, many times Romo managed to get that last score and win the game.

Of course, after many times getting the lead back 2-3 teams in the second half, Romo also failed to get that last score. Most 4th quarter comeback wins in Cowboys history, but the haters only want to talk about what a 'choker' he is.
