Mayowa Benched

Ummm, you realize that is the definition of confirmation bias, right?

con·fir·ma·tion bi·as
noun
  1. the tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one's existing beliefs or theories.
I know that I am a skeptic at heart questioning my own beliefs regularly.

Still waiting for a shred of contrary evidence other than empty/incomplete stats and you insisting on your original assertion.

Actually what I have said is that he was overdrafted, which I still believe and nothing has disproven that. And that Ogbah will end up being a better player in time, which remains to be seen.

I've said consistently Bosa was worth being drafted in the first round but not in the top ten, much less top three.

Bosa already has amongst the best handwork in the NFL. Ogbah isn't even close. Both will improve.

They really took a blind shot in the dark with this signing. Nothing indicated based on past performance that Mayowa could provide a pass rush. Zilch. Yet they signed this guy saying he would help in that area. Should've just signed an older stop-gap type who at least has film to indicate he would help.

You got me, I'm a moron to use Statistics for rookie awards.

And on a completely unrelated note, one of the writers in the article you are quoting as proof says rookie awards are all about statistics:

Willie McGinest: Yannick Ngakoue, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars. These rookie awards are all about statistics -- and right now, he's having a dang good season.

Just giving you a hard time, we will see what happens with Bosa but I think he will look like a first rounder in time who was overdrafted at #3.

I never said you were a moron. I said that basic statlines are a horrid way to analyze DE. If you use more comprehensive stats that include hits, pressures, TFL, and the like you can get a much better picture. PFF did that and has a much better evaluation then what you claim.

Ngakoue got 2 votes. Bosa still had 8.

As for the last, you are just repeating yourself.

Saw Deion Jones had two. Really liked that guy coming out. A little undersized but looked like the fastest guy on the field and at LB. Thought he'd be a Telvin/Kwon kinda guy and a nice addition to some nickel packages. Hope Jaylon recovers

No salary cap; no problem. Can't be great at every position anymore. Are we going to sign a DE and let an OL walk away?

Can we do both? What do we need like 12 a year for the DE and like 8-9 for the Ol?
Olivier Vernon (NYG) signed for 17 million a year. One season of 11.5 sks in 2013 and 6.5, 7.5 since. This season so far 3 sacks.

Travis Frederick signed for 9.4 million per year. Zack will probably get 10 a year if we're lucky.

I'd rather go for a Avril, Bennett, Dunlap or Everson griffin type at 7-8.5 mill a year and you're right bout Martin. I think we can make it all happen around 20 mil a year

Sorry, complete waste was a little strong. It wasn't 1.8 million, that's his cap hit for this season. He was guaranteed 3 million before he played a snap. If he's on the roster next year that will be 5.2 million we paid over two years with an extra mill we'd be eating on his bonus if we decide to cut him after next year. 6.2 million for two years isn't exactly a bargain

Could be worse though, and he has played decent in some games. Definitely not a "complete waste", and he's just now hitting his prime really. I know they wanted to hedge the risk, but I think there were better options for a little more money.

Could not agree more, but hard for Mayowa to improve let alone hit his prime on inactive list. FA being on inactive list, especially at such a critical position (pass rusher) equals bust signing IMO.

Joey Bosa

271 Snaps
4 sacks
11 Tackles

4.7MM Salary

Mayowa

203 Snaps
2 Sacks
4 Tackles

1.8MM Salary

Noah Spence also has 4 sacks and 10 tackles. 2 FFs to boot. And he was available in the 2nd. Could have had Zeke and Noah. And most likely Jaylon Smith too, if Cowboys stayed with their original strategy to draft a DE then move up from the 3rd to take Jaylon Smith.

Spence was a guy I thought they would target, he has a ton of talent. But they passed on him with the Jaylon Smith pick, didn't the team view him as a character risk?

Not sure Spence was even on their draft board.

I think I read that he wasn't. Broaddus had him in his top 10 or 15 overall and was miffed they passed, I think he eventually said on Twitter that the team had Spence off their board.
