Romo Scenarios and their cap hits

I think that Jerry would like to work something out to keep Romo around, but I think that they would trade him if he was insistent on starting.

I want to add, I doubt Romo approves a trade to just any team.

As others have quipped, perhaps the team owes him nothing, but Jones loves him and won't just trade him to any team to rot for his last couple years (Browns, Niners). Jones has always wore his heart on his sleeve.

I think NYJ, DEN, AZ (Palmer is declining fast) and BUF as a dark horse (despite Taylor) are the biggest chances for landing him in a trade. Someone brought up Houston, and that would be interesting, too. Brock is horrid, but they do have a lot locked up in him, but they are missing a dynamic QB (simlair to AZ's situation).

Edit, I see you covered the Brock deal in a further post, Stash :) (as I was replying) :)

I don't think it's about Bradford being better than Romo, he obviously isn't. But it's more about finding that team who thinks that they're a quarterback away like the Vikings did.
I agree. You always need a trading partner. I was just trying to point out of why we should ask for 1st for Romo.

I'd love to get one, but I'm not sure if there's a trade partner who would be willing to pay that.

Thinking long term, if the Cowboys' offense continues to have success, Linehan might be considered for a vacant head coaching position. If that were to happen, he might want Romo to follow him wherever he landed? If Cutler and the Bears continue to tank, it could be Chicago.

True.

He won't be a back up in Dallas, ther is no way.
Either he gets traded to a team of his choosing or he gets cut and goes out and test the market where he will have good offers. Jerry owes him that much, he pretty much will decide his future.
I hope this is the way it works. Would selfishly love to see him up here in Denver where he has a chance at a ring. They are going to have to fix their Oline first but Elway would get him the tools.

They would, but it would mean the ownership and front office publicly and financially admitting that the Osweiler deal was a complete debacle. We already know that, but teams don't like to admit it.

Given what they're on the hook for with Osweiler, I'm not sure they would or could pay Romo.

They have invested to get a decent defense that's getting older by the year. If they think that Romo is the one QB who
might get them to the dance, I think they might dump Brock and sign Tony as a bridge. The have the defense and RB who
could help Tony be successful I think. Lots of talk about the Jets but, I just don't see that as a team just needing one piece
to the puzzle.

Zero chance he goes to Houston.

Yeah, the Jets D fell off a cliff, especially with Revis' incredible decline this season (he said he's "old" now). And they have no o-line, as others have posited. They're a season or two too late from Romo being a viable option for taking them to the promised land. But it is NY, and they may appeal to Romo, and NY loves star power. Who knows, at this point lol

Denver won't go after Romo, it is about Lynch time. It would be a good fit but I can't see them going the Manning route again. Arizona is the perfect fit for Tony IMO.
Probably right but Elway doesn't mess around with waiting for QB's to "grow". He's a good judge of QB talent and he will cut bait with what he has and find the right QB no matter where he comes from. Siemian has been pretty good but he's on a shorty leash. If they don't make the playoffs and Lynch isn't progressing, look out.

Not as much trade value as you think. Other teams know the score. Jerry could only trade Tony to a team that Tony approves of.
He otherwise would just retire, Cowboys get nothing except all his cap money come crashing down next year. Only two teams
I think make sense and who knows if they would part with picks. Denver or Houston. They have defenses and a ready made team
capable of getting to the playoffs.

I would put the Jets in front of those teams .

I don't see any way Tony doesn't get traded or released. What's going to be interesting is to see if any teams bite first. I mean, why trade for Tony if he's likely to be released anyway?

He is not going to be cut. He has trade value thats why I think Jerry might audition him if he gets a chance to play this year.
I feel some of overestimating his trade value. Unless I'm a team that desperately wants him, I think I'd roll the dice and wait for him to inevitably be released.

We can get a high pick from someone for him. Take that pick and package it to move up and grab a top notch DE high in the draft. Gregory is to total bust.

Your buying low with Sanchez now. As opposed to Daniels where the Eagles bought high

Exactly. If the coaches like what they've seen of him in meetings and practices, and he feels comfortable in the role, I think him as the backup could be a win-win for both parties. And he won't cost much.

Zero chance he goes to Houston.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it! Tony & (his wife) are going to have a lot of say about which team he
might go to next year. The Cowboys have just one point of leverage. They can pay him since he's under contract
or they can release him next year as a June 1st cut. They could try and trade him but, he can nix the idea by rejecting
the trade and retiring. That way all his remaining CAP hit comes to bear. I think Jerry will try and work out trading Tony
to a good team in the AFC and I also think Denver & Houston might fit his wife's desire to stay close to home base in Dallas.
Tony has a load of leverage how this goes down in the off-season unless Jerry wants to keep Tony at his current price.
Tony is not going to redo his deal to remain a backup...Just not in his DNA.

Their defense is down this year and their OL is horrible. Tony wouldn't last 3 games and I just don't
think his wife would want to move to NY. I would put the Jets last in line...

Taking a look at Osweiler's deal, there's no chance they dump him. The cap hit would be $25 million, on top of whatever they would have to pay for Romo.

If they're willing to admit their mistake, they could sit him until 2018 and release him then. But I have doubts that it could or would happen.
