I hope no one is truly panicking over these day one FA defections

I love how Cowboys fans, who have been burned by the BIG FREE AGENCY MOVES AND TRADES, WHEELIN' AND DEALIN', YEEEEHAW approach blowing up in their face more than maybe any fanbase in the NFL the last two decades... are constantly disappointed when they don't get that again.

Fun stuff.

Again, other than a small handful of people such as waldo, where are these great number of Cowboys fans screaming about the Cowboys not making the "big", elite FA moves?

What most are saying is not that we need to be making the big moves but rather not do the extreme opposite where we sit around for a week and hope the bargain bin gets a whole lot cheaper.

I love you folks that go to the extemes. Hilarious. "no cap space". Hahah

Just in case you and any of the other overreactors weren't aware, this draft is chock full of DBs. I can't wait to see us go to work. Ware most likely returns and we move up in the first to get an other impact player.

Oh.. & we aren't in cap hell. Just to clear that little extreme declaration up...

Such impatience..lol

Move up in the first?

Yeah. A DE or a CB that might not still be there late in the 1st. We'll use the draft pick we're about to get for Romo for bait to help us switch with someone that wants to move down. My bold prediction.

Given we will likely need a CB or two, a safety, some DE help, a DT, probably another WR and even a TE, I suspect you are more likely to see Dallas stand pat if they get another pick for Romo or actually trade back in a deep draft and grab a pick or two more.

With such a premium the front office puts on the draft now, I doubt they waste picks to move up but rather try to maximize the number of picks they have.

We should be happy to have a ton of day 1 defections. It's a sign that we're starting to develop more talent and we'll be rewarded for that next year.

I haven't seen one deal for our free agents given out that i'd have liked Dallas to match.

So cry if nothing has happened in a week, I guess? We're a day in, nobody knows what Dallas will or won't do.

Every single player is a replaceable fringe player that overshot his talent level on occasion and warmed someone's heart along the way. But they are ALL replaceable. Leary aside... we knew we were going to lose him and La'el will fill in just fine.

But on the defensive side of the ball, cmon man...
Can we please not pretend as though that was the glaring weakness of our team last year. We could draft 7 picks this year and they would probably all maintain at least the level of play we had last year out of these salary thief's. Let them go play elsewhere and prove to others that they are exactly what we thought they were. There's good reason why our DL rotation was weak and our secondary was a combination of part time infirmary warriors and toast left in the toaster too long.

Some of our rooks from last year will step up on the DLine, Jaylon will rock, and we will draft nicely. I think we will also find some bargains in FA now that the day one fire sale is over.

Keep the faith. Nothing has truly been lost... :starspin:

It's the Cowboys way. The best indicator of predicting the future is historical data. Until I see them divert I'll just keep waiting til the 3rd and 4th tier FA come in play.

Build through the draft the best teams in the NFL do this. The packers, Steelers, etc. are never the teams to make the big flashy pickups. We should be happy that we finally got out of all those horrible fa contracts we racked up. After we get Romo's contract off the books we should be in really good shape for the future.

I love big name signings. Let's get some.
Time to spend some money.

Or

We can wait and shop around.

But

I'm impulsive. If I like it, I buyzz it

Well, I guess we just felt we couldn't replace Brice Butler then.

Thanks for clearing it all up.
Good insurance at WR that can take the top off and knows the system. Somewhat inconsistent but a worthy 3rd or 4th wideout.. So what's the problem?

Plus three key draft picks from last that didn't contribute... And FA.

Let's not leave anything out that I said.

I don't think anyone is really lamenting the losses. I think they just understand that right now we're losing starters and depth and not replacing it.

Barry Church wasn't a great player, but he was good enough to be a starter and even excel at some aspects of the game. There's no guarantee we're going to be able to replace that unless we pick up a sure starter.

McClain played his way into the starting 1-tech position, and while we have the bodies to replace him, we don't know if they'll perform at the same level he was.

Leary's replacement is already in-house, but the depth we had to use when Collins got hurt is now gone. Same with Claiborne. Depth at corner helped us weather Scandrick's injury, and right now, we've only got him and Anthony Brown.

That all can change in a week, but right now we just don't know what's going to happen.

Still no reason to panic. The FO will execute their plan according to their schedule and not according to day one defections or to please panicky fans.

They have all offseason to replace Church and McClain - and like you said, they already had the replacement for Leary.

Church is a solid starter and clubhouse leader but they had to change the defensive scheme to keep him out of coverage. There are certainly players available that will be able to step into that starting job. And Kavon Frazier has a shot at improving enough to be a starter next year.

McClain was a good player for us last year because we weren't going to overpay to keep him - and we already have his replacement on the roster in Thornton. Backup 1T isn't a hard position to fill with a FA signing, or a 4th or 5th round pick or even with a guy like Richard Ash.
