Cooper is a backup, Collins is the starting LG. Look for RT in the second and third rounds, if not, it'll simply be a hole we didn't get to fill next offseason. That's how it works sometimes, folks. We knew the end of Free was coming and didn't address RT outside of Green who was a ghost his rookie season.

We went for a skill position in the top 5 last year, which left a need at tackle. Just gotta hope Dak's pocket presence gets better and stops taking those hits from the right side.

The Cowboys have liked Cooper ever since the 2013 draft. He went with the 7th pick, so Dallas traded down from 18 to 31 and got Travis Frederick.

From what I've heard, Cooper is a talent. It just took a while for him to get going since he broke his leg his rookie season. This is a good move.

We did it to Doug Free, twice, after all. Each time in the offseason and each time it was an adjustment, but he ended up handling it ok

The Cardinals traded him to the Patriots to basically sweeten the pot in the Chandler Jones deal. I don't think Cooper was ever really in New England's plans. From what I've read he played pretty well in his short time in Cleveland last year, but they got rid of him for contractual reasons. I could be wrong, though.

You're right, but there's a lot of decent players that are still out there looking for contracts. If Cooper can be at worst a serviceable guard, it'll certainly work since he'll be surrounded by three all-pros on this offensive line.

If Cooper stinks, it's only a one year deal and the Cowboys just move on.

All three of those sentences are wrong.

What is this myth around here he wasn't much of a LG? Where are you guys getting this from? His rookie season, he graded out nearly as well as Leary did in 2014 - That's as a rookie. His future is not at RT - Who the heck is behind him at LG that's going to take over and what has he shown you that makes it look like he's a future RT?

As for him being brought here to eventually be a RT. Whatever we thought he was going to be 2 years ago doesn't matter, if that was the case. However, I think the reality was "Here is a guy with a high ceiling we can get dirt cheap, let's see if he's a LG or RT"

You think the Cowboys, if Collins showed he had what it takes to be a RT, wouldn't have replaced Free instead of Leary? Free was on his last legs, you would much rather start Collins early on at RT. I see no future for him at RT and I think you, and many others here, are off the mark. If Collins is at RT next season, we'll see why he was never there before. He doesn't have the footwork to be a RT.

I don't consider Cleary a legitimate option. Green played well, but has the health concerns. If we don't move someone over, we need to add a RT capable of starting from somewhere or we're playing with fire. It's a lot easier to replace a LG than it is a RT. And if you've got the physical skills and an offseason to prepare for it, moving positions isn't the end of the world. We did it to Doug Free, twice, after all. Why not? I was really impressed by Cleary in his start against the Eagles. He looked a lot better than Free getting abused all game long. That's probably what convinced him to hang em up.

Tells you what OL think bout this teams OL to sign somewhere that you arent guaranteed to play, but theres a chance and you take it. This is the very reason why Collins signed in Dallas.

You mean like the smoke screen that they were comfortable with Kellen Moore as a backup and then drafted a qb who then took the league by storm?

Injuries happen...Or you may have never heard of Dak Prescott. He could have easily been discarded like Jamal Showers.
