I have it, a necessary evil. It isn't too bad, depends on your risk area. Mine is around $200/mo.

A lot if people don't. FEMA will help those without insurance. Those that have it will get there help from the insurance companies. I had some damage from Dolly in 08. State farm took care of me immediately. Those that went through FEMA had tons of redtape and some never saw a dime.
