Are you kidding? NFL players (and other major sports league players) are incredibly generous with their money and time, working with the underprivileged in their cities.

Any weekend in chicago there are dozens of shootings. NFL don't go on ride alongs and spend time with the officers they so easily criticize.

There are plenty of high character men in the NFL that have a worthy off the field cause they work with but the specific issue of racial injustice and policy brutality is a giant fabricated hysteria. Kaepernick took a knee because of the shooting in Louisiana and the castillo shooting in minnesota. Both of which were handled properly by police. Then Michael Bennett follows up by referencing the Michael Brown shooting and travon martin. These are all incidents that go through the legal system and come out with justice. Justice doesn't mean the cop goes to jail. It means the facts were examined and the truth comes out even if they disagree with it.

How many of these protesters would even accept an invite to the white house to discuss topics like this? Or would they just continue to kneel and pretend they are doing it for a worthy cause?

Yeah, and that will last all of a week.

Also, not enough fans are going to be mad enough to affect the bottom line.

Without the players, there is no NFL.
Yeah, there are enough fans. Watch the news. People from teams across the country are burning their jersey's. Let's see the news tomorrow

Do you seek out your news by first hand account only?

Do you understand what the Drudge report is?

And before you claim I don't see both sides, I read Reason and National Review. 538, Economist, Texas Tribune, Scientific American and Christian Science Monitor are my staples. I read Huffington and New Republic for the left. If I want pop news I go CBS News and Reuters.

What I do not do is go to a media bubble like Drudge who cherry picks right wing talking points. It is as big of a blight as the bubbles that Facebook and Twitter put people in.

They took a knee in silent prayer and then stood up locked arm in arm for the national anthem. I think if you find something offensive about that, you are looking real hard to be offended. It was respectful to the fans.

You should check out Jerrys post game interview. He specifically acknowledged the diversity. Does that make you feel differentlly?

When is the last time a few NFL players spent the weekend reaching out to people of inner city Chicago?
A buddy of mine that I served with in the military was from the inner city of Chicago. We encountered enemy fire in Afghanistan together and survived, we were shot down in a helicopter but survived. Long story short... he got back to the states a week before I did. When I got back to the states, the first thing I did was call him to make arrangements to come visit. I was informed by his mother that a gang banger shot and killed him for just walking across the street, two days after he got back... it was a senseless death. I'm pretty sure that story made the rounds in Illinois and got to the pro athletes. Why would a NFL player spend a weekend to reach out to inner city Chicago when the senseless killing there is worse than a war zone?

Lets be real here the thing that these athletes are upset about is the fact the President is perceived as threat to many of these guys gravy train. I know many of these athletes viewed athletics as their way out of the "hood" and when Trump said what he said they took it as an affront and decided that they would do the monkey see, monkey do exercise from 1st grade.

I'm totally against the anthem protesters, but...

...this was BEFORE the anthem and therefore, OK (and good compromise) as far as I'm concerned

We could always get rid of 70% of the demographic of players in NFL. Problem solved.

No more players representing their people who are experiencing social injustice feeling the need to protest.

Be a sport like Nascar and Hockey. I bet they don't have any protesters.

Again I'm hearing how perception is greater than reality and forces an athlete to do something they would not normally do sans that perception. Michael Bennett's perception convinced him the LVPD was out to get him so he ran. You want to be "real"... I helped my buddy's mom bury her son after surviving a war zone. I'm more concerned about solving the problem in Chicago rather than worrying about these rich athletes. I haven't given up on my buddy's family in Chicago.

And you should not but unfortunately some of the most powerful politicians of the last 8-10 years are using "Chiraq" to further push the agenda that has helped make Chicago the warzone it is today. I seriously hoped one of Trumps tirades about sending the FEDs in would really happen. I love Chicage, maybe not its sports teams, but the city itself deserves more and its people deserve more.

I love that message. Save Chicago. Those are good people caught in the crossfire.

What makes you think that, exactly? Since he started kneeling, he donated $1 million to organizations that aid communities in need and has been continuously working directly with inner-city youth at a large number of events. That doesn't sound to me like somebody with "no interest in helping anyone or anything."

I applaud the donations, if in fact that's true.

But as for the genesis of it...
-he didn't play well
-he was benched in favor of a white player
-according to his own teammates he was withdrawn and sullen
-he decides he doesn't want to stand for the flag...interesting.

That's a pouter...not someone wanting to help the world. Since then he's been latched onto those with an agenda.

Look...Do we all carry some prejudice that we are unaware of? Sure. Do I believe there is some institutional racism. Some perhaps.

What I will say is this:
-If I needed social services I'd have better luck getting them as a black man
-If I needed a college scholarship...one would be easier to secure as a black man
-If I was a black job candidate...in many circumstances I would be preferred over a similarly qualified white job seeker.

I'm not going to protest that...I'm not even disagreeing with it. We need to do a bit to level the field from all that's happened in the past.

I have no hard data on my points above and if someone can prove this untrue, I'm very open to the evidence.
