Why taking a knee is respectful

Protesting of any kind during the anthem is blatant disrespect to the flag and our country. Period! You can twist and twist and you will never be right. The flag and the anthem are sacred and they have nothing to do with the issue some have with the police. They don't represent or honor police officers. They represent us all and the men and women who have served and/or died for all of us. To do anything other than stand at attention is disrespectful. Everyone is free to do what they want and therefore people are free to disagree and criticize those that show blatant disrespect.

So when the **** soldier saluted their flag and song, it was all good? Surely you wouldnt want them to protest their own country!

You think when the British flag and song rolled into Boston, that the Patriots just stood up and didnt protest it?

I think the problem people have with protesting, is coming to grasp with the fact the symbol represents a tyrannical government. When the founders fought against the British, we cheered them. If the **** soldier would have stood against their government, we would cheer them. Stand against our government...nope, cant do that.

Not sure why people keep insisting this is the case after the protesters have made their motives and intentions clear to all. I have yet to hear a single player say they were kneeling to protest or disrespect people in the military past or present.
It's because they oppose the protest and playing the Patrotic Card.

It's a dogwhistle for a deeper embedded cultural divide.

You obviously need to research the history of protesting in our country.

Again, this is not a protest of our military . That's what your making it because apparently you don't agree there are social injustices and inequalities.
You are the one that said you protested the Vietnam and iraq war... I'm addressing you specifically. Yes, protest social injustice and inequality. I have no problem with that but when you protest our military heroes defending our country you are just wrong.

Who has said they are protesting our military heroes?

Apparently you don't understand the difference in protesting leadership and policies of War versus the soldiers.
Having been on the receiving end of both, indeed I don't. I only wanted to defend the country I love and was called bad names and attacked by Americans for it.

Most people dont follow issues like I do, and many more dont have a good memory if they do so.

Inundated with constant things makes remembering what someone said or did just a few months ago a major chore.

So, for a flashback:

Colin started out by just sitting on the bench and chilling; an actual sign of disrespect.

But Colin was just acting out as best he saw fit at the time. Nate Boyer, former NFL player and Green Beret noticed that Colin's cause was a good one, but wanted him to know that chilling was disrespectful.

Nate had an open letter posted for Colin, the two met and talked. Colin listened.

What you really dont remember, is why Colin went from sitting to kneeling.

I'll let the Green Beret tell you why:

If kneeling is disrespectful, then everyone has been disrespecting people for a long time. But it isnt. Its a sign of attention

We can even look to the definition of kneeling from the 1600's and the latin word for it genuflect:

This is cool insight. Everybody should understand it.

Thanks for posting it.

Kaepernick also wore socks depicting cops as pigs, and he publicly supported Fidel Castro (ask Cuban refugees about him). You can protest your cause (although I'd prefer you not do it during our anthem), but Kaepernick was being very disrespectful. Even if you say taking a knee is not, he showed his true colors in other ways.

He some big blunders in the whole thing, not all cops are bad, some are. Not all Casto's are bad, but Fidel was. His intentions I respect, some of his statements not so much.

Hopefully this doesn't get deleted and I dont get removed from posting in this thread lol

Equality is not something universally afforded to all Americans in this country. It's unfortunate that some assume that all Americans do share in that equality but that's out of ignorance, not malice. It's generational and it will get better as time progresses.

I know you cannot tell someone's tone on a message board, so I just want to make it clear I am not putting down your point. I just seriously, for discussions sake, want to ask how exactly are people being treated unequally by the system?

I'd like a discussion about it. I'm pretty level headed, but I would like to know how people are really being oppressed still, and who is really responsible for their oppression?

If you mentioned his Che shirt, I might give you the benefit of the doubt.

But his Castro shirt, he was specific about, that it included Malcolm X on it and depicted Malcolm being willing to listen to others and how we should be willing to listen to those we still disagree with.

Which is a hugely valid point.

I'm game. Rand talked about it multiple times during the presidential debates: http://fortune.com/2016/01/29/rand-paul-race-criminal-justice-republican-debate/

n Ferguson, for every 100 African-American women, there are only 60 African-American men. Drug use is about equal between white and black, but our prisons — three out of four people in prison are black or brown. I think something has to change. I think it's a big thing that our party needs to be part of, and I've been a leader in Congress on trying to bring about criminal justice reform.
