That's the excuse they use. That dead money will be absorbed by an ever-rising cap and the ability to restructure and restructure contracts at will until the end of time.

Owners put in a soft salary cap so they can give their fans an excuse why they don't try harder. It ensures them a 9-figure profit each season.

This league has about 10 to 15 years left in it. Jerry should go for broke until the music on the NFL stops.

Nothing wrong with Twill. He has had to deal with the same crappy QBs as Dez has. He deserves the same benefit of the doubt afforded to Dez.

Honest question.

Do you think Dak can take advantage of true wide receivers with ability? Or is he just about tight ends and slot guys?
 
We should keep Dez but he needs to be moved to #2 spot and reduced targets. Dak was better with Dez out in 2016 because he didn't force th ball to him and spread it around as folks got open

TWill projected to have 90 catches if he had the same number of targets as Dez in 2017. Dez had 69.

Dak made many really great throws but people didn't seem to notice.

One that sticks in my mind was late in the season, they were backed up against the endzone and it was 3rd and long. Dak rifled as pass to a WR about 20 yards downfield, right in the middle (left/right) of the field. I think it was to Dez but it might have been TWill.
 
Don't just list first-rounders, go deeper in the draft there are plenty of studs. Dak is not that great of a passer, and this offense should be built on running game then play action passes. Linehan and Garrett are very incapable of coaching.

They suck.

With all that said, with Dez, who never stops being a distraction, this offense suck more; without him, we have the potential to suck less.

College football is doing a terrible job of developing wide receivers for the pros, just like so many other positions. Receivers show up completely lost with no idea how professional offenses work. They don't understand how to run routes, how to read defenses, and they aren't used to catching balls in traffic.

I know that sounds like Dez a bit, but he had the knack for catching in traffic from day one.

If they cut Dez, then Cole Beasley or Terrance Williams is the #1 receiver. That is, unless you think tiny Calvin Ridley is going to come in and be a seasoned pro his first year. Eeeek.

I've stated my issues with Dez for a many years, but he's the best option for this team in 2018 at that spot. Keep him, bite hard on the contract, and just hope the running game returns in full force.

NFL even in a declining trend is still America’s sport and #1 show on TV. It can afford to lose billions in revenue and still be a force in the market.

Personally , I’d like to see it downscaled to the revenue it was generating 20-30 years ago sharing stadiums with the local colleges.

What else are football fans going to watch on TV or their devices on Sunday afternoon in the fall?

I grew up in a time when College Football was bigger than the NFL. I wouldn’t have a problem evolving back.

You aren't fixing this in the draft. As you read in the OP, the past three years have produced almost nothing in the draft at wide receiver in the first round. Certainly nothing of real note, outside of flashes from Amari Cooper, who had a terrible year last year.

And the salary cap is a virtual myth. You can always restructure to make anything fit you want, and it keeps going up year after year. It's a built-in excuse to stand pat.

I would hope so playing with the best qb in the league, perfect placement, in hopes still of nearly 50 50 predicament for him.

There's a growing social campaign against football, and the media is feeding it.

CTE will have its #MeToo reckoning, and the sport will no longer be tolerated one day.

Or three Laurent Robinsons. That's the magic of numbers. You spread out your risk and opportunity. We probably get some of each, but with Dez out, I think we get them all at a good price, because the opportunity presented to a WR to potentially start is so good.

The biggest problem with Terrance is his contract. In the passing game, he's way down the list of preferred targets. He's paid too much to be that little of a threat.

Terrance is a tough one. His aggregate numbers actually look good, but you know no team is doubling him, and no team feels the need to back off on him either. Also, I'd like to see INT/targets numbers. He just doesn't pass the eyeball test, regardless of numbers.

I can’t imagine in my lifetime.

Without College Football which funds Athletics programs most other sports at Universities would cease to exist. Football fans and the money it generates isn’t totally fading anytime soon.

Worse case scenario is they’d discontinue using the type of gladiator head gear. We really don’t need the violent contact in football for it to be competitive, successful and entertaining.

They’ll figure out how to litigate thru any lawsuits and public pressure. Football is bigger than just the NFL. It’s the lifeblood of most major universities .

I’ve said from the jump the first round wr fan club is ridiculous. Wrs almost always take at least 1 year to become a real asset unless you’re a true physical talent ala Beckham/Evans/Watkins. Does Christian Kirk qualify? Nope. Calvin Ridley the 180 pound shrimp? Nope. Top the madness and either sign Butlers replacement or get a guy in round 2 or preferably 3.
