Is Zack Martin’s agent playing serious hardball?

Not at all I don't blame him one bit. My only gripe is that if his agent purposely stalled for a year so he could jack up the price he should of just told the Cowboys we will talk in 2018. Instead if I remember right they were in serious negotiations at the beginning of camp last year. Who knows maybe the Cowboys insulted him or something with their offer. Between pushing Romo's dead money into 2018 instead of just taking the hit in 2017 and Martin still not signed...everything other than D. Law and promising rooks in the secondary, 2017 pretty much sucked.

Agreed............if his agent misled the team into thinking they were going to do a long term deal and they were just delaying waiting for another round of free agency to increase the price...........that aint cool.

Now, to be fair, Zach and his agent may have negotiated in good faith and that cheap arse Stephen Jones might have low-balled him. We all have seen how cheap Steven is, so it would not surprise me if they low-balled Zach and pissed him off.

If that was the case, yea, I would probably bend the team over also if I got disrespected by cheap arse Jr.

You think they'd go for it. Get some protection for Luck.

Would you pay that?
No I wouldn't pay that. Colts have the what 6th pick after the trade back plus 34 I think. Heck yes I'm reading Martin. That's potentially Nelson/Vea and a top receiver like Moore or Sutton. That still leaves 19 to trade up for Derwin

I would rather seek to trade him than just outright release him and get a complete 3rd rounder in 2020 which may/may not be wiped ought depending on who we sign

I would hope they would be able to get a 1st for him...

The only way...............and I do mean the only way...............I would consider paying a Guard $15 mill a season is if he can do double duty and fill in a Tackle when needed. Like if Tyron's back flares up again.

Can Zach play any Tackle?

At his position Martin is one of the best players in the league. Really has been since day 1. Still young. Always suits up. Makes perfect Cowboys sense to let him walk. Better to give the money to Ty Crawford.

That's why we locked up LP!!!
Dang right... Never mussed a snap.
There was this moment when this guy couldn't catch it right and it cost a playoff game, but I don't think it was LP's fault.

Fans that play wannabe capologists assure everyone that a long term contract will provide all this cap room because they have their scenarios of what the contract will be but fail to accept one simple fact. It takes the player and his agent to accept those contracts and as those wannabe capologists are finding out that apparently Martin isn't jumping at their contract scenarios. Martin knows he's the best guard in the NFL and is probably holding out to be paid like he is. That being the case there won't be a ton of cap savings this year or any year. He probably wants not only to get a hefty bonus but a very respectable base salary too. That is what the best get, a big bonus and a large base salary.
.
And therein lies the difference in dealing in fantasy with monopoly money and u.s. currency. In their efforts to hornswoggle, boondoggle and mind boggle everyone with fantasy financials they overlook the fact that contracts are two party.

JUST PAY THE MAN. HE IS THE BEST AT HIS POSITION...HE sets the going pay rate, period. No need to get all cheap...just SHUT UP and pay him. Worry about Tyron and Fred Beard later. Me thinks Tyron will be gone anyways in another year or 2. He's been pretty banged up lately. Not sure he is elite anymore.

No offense but I don't think you understand the salary cap. Suppose he wants half of our salary cap. Would you want that to happen?

Granted they will never pay him half our cap, but at some point (which is an inexact science) you have to decide the cap hit is just too much and move on.

I'm all for keeping Martin. He is the best at his position. But you can't pay Martin, Frederick, Dez, Witten, Lawrence, Collins, and Irving on top of that and expect to not be in cap hell.

Eventually you end up with a top heavy roster and no depth which is what has kept us out of the super bowl for 22 years.

Heck I would play hard ball and I would hope I was traded to a team with a good coach and gm.. Heck I would like to have a chance to win the big game, and it's probably not going to happen here. We got excuses every year..

Yes and there are some here that actually believe the Cowboys can easily maneuver 60 mil of cap space with zero ill effects. Of course it's either that monopoly money or those reoccurring fantasy dreams they have and now they can't tell the difference between those dreams and real life.

This won't be popular, but I walk away from Martin. Get a guy with one of your top 5 picks this year. Groom him. And slide him in next year. That's how the Pat's do it. They let Solder walk.

I see part of this but Solder is on the downside of his career and isn’t as good as Martin.

I don’t think NE would let Martin walk if they had him.
