I've seen it written several times the Cowboys would have gained back more salary cap space had they waited until June 1 to cut him. I don't know how accurate that is, but if true the Cowboys actually could have made it much worse for Dez.
I thought it had something to do with how his contract was written in regard to releasing by a certain date because of something about an injury clause.

They could have designated him for June 1st if they wanted to, like they did with Scandrick.

They chose not to go that route.

And they couldn't have waited longer because the team workouts have started. If Dez was out there and got hurt, they'd be forced to pay him.

No, they waited as long as they could to do this, with no incentive to do so, other than spite.

They could have held him out of team workouts to prevent injury, and even so, they had to sign another receiver before deciding to let him go. At most they waited an extra 3 weeks, but really probably not even that long assuming reports are true that after signing Hurns the team tried to trade Dez and there were no takers.

Lmao, what?

Isn't that funny. The next thing we hear will be that Dez decided to retire because he never actually liked football anyway and he can't do something he isn't passionate about. Nevermind the fact that he didn't receive any offers. Lol

Dez lovers will spin this as he is flush with offers and he is currently meticulously picking out the highest bidder for his services

Dez haters claim Dez fans can’t let it go, but yet it is the Dez haters that keep on creating threads about him. Trying to get in jabs, but it really just shows the haters the the immature ones, not Dez.

What I believe it was, or at least what I believe I read, was that if they waited until June 1 to cut Dez he wouldn't have counted against the salary cap at all, but since workouts would have started by then, if Dez got hurt in the meantime they would have been stuck with the full salary. If this is accurate, technically the team could have simply held Dez out of workouts until June 1, then released him. Admittedly that would have probably not been viewed very favorably by players or fans.

It seems the timeline may have been to wait until signing another receiver, then try to trade Dez, and when they found no takers they decided to release him.

See that's what I thought, it seemed like there was alot of interest in him after being released, players around the league were reaching out to him....but the fact of the matter is he hasn't visited with anyone.

Yeah. I'm going to guess he had a big enough number that teams held off. He'll have a couple of suitors, at least, and pick a decent landing spot after the draft. It'll be interesting to see what he gets in terms of money, though, and how the guarantees are structured.

I bet it amounts to basically the deal Jeffery signed with the Eagles last year. A one year prove-it that the team then extends if he's a good fit and can play.

can't let go, can you?

I have. I am not creating 20 threads a day about him not being signed yet.
And yes I do have the right to respond in those threads. Mainly to point out why don’t people just let it go.

Maybe all Dez threads should be moved to the rant zone. It will clear up a lot of thread space on the 1st page.

You can designate a player a June 1st cut before June 1st. You just don't get the cap relief until after June 1st.

You can't complain about everyone should let it go and not let it go yourself.
