I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd
this is about where i am. 1st / 3rd just isn't worth it. great player, no denying it, but the value for long term just isn't there as it is for a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Why isn't anyone talking about a 2nd OR 3rd and a player like Beasley? The Seahawks need wr also. Beasley not long ago was the lead dog for the wr's.

I like ET but my gawd, so many here act like he’s the cornerstone to a championship. He’s going into his 9th season, is 29 years old, hasn’t played a full season since 2015. I’m not knocking him. Great player from 2010-2015. But now? Not sure.

Again, he has been a great player, but for how much longer? I wouldn’t mind having him around for sure. BUT- at what price and for how long? He’s a FA next year, which means we must also be careful about signing a guy at this age to anything more than an incentive laden, team friendly, short term deal.

Trading for a guy like Earl Thomas is usually a move made by a team that is “one key player away” from glory. Are the Cowboys that kind of team? No. Can we make some noise next year? Maybe. But this team needs a lot more than a 29 year old safety who hasn’t been injury free in 2 years. Caution flags!!!
Well said, Bob. The fact no one made an offer for David Irvin shows the value of even a 2nd pick. We have more pressing needs.

Isn’t this guy the one who’s supposed to take us to the NFC Championship game?

he has about 2 years left of great ball...and so we must ask ourselves 2 questions. Is he the 1 player that gets us a ring? Secondly, are we sure we wanna give up a high draft choice for a guy that's has MAYBE 2 solid years of ball left?

I honestly think everyone in the CowboyZone is getting a woodie thinking about adding Earl Thomas in
the Dallas Cowboy Secondary. Be honest.
Not at all. I don't want him in Dallas at this point if his career. The team is not one player away from the Super Bowl, so why trade for an expensive player that is in his downside?

If you have to give up a 2nd, you give up a 2nd. If the Cowboys don't, somebody else will. Then you risk that team signing him long term and we're out of the race. If you can use a 2nd to immediately upgrade your team with the best safety in the NFL then you do it. We would probably get at least 4 years of his services.

We've been begging for an upgrade like E.T. for years now. With all the talented DB's we've drafted and moving Byron to corner, you make this move and sleep well tonight. Especially when you think about how many 2nd round picks we've blown in the last decade or so.

Here's my 2nd. E.T. come on home.

Think again. This isn't 2014 Earl Thomas (and I don't give a hoot that he's a Longhorn).

Would I take him? Sure. But not at anything close to the asking price, particularly given his contract status, salary expectations, and age.

I agree.

would he help? yes. but I wouldn't want to pay more than a 3rd realistically. will he be a year older if we wait? yes. then we get him. We are not going to the superbowl next year IMO given all the subtractions and holes we have to fill and a rookie(s) is not the difference maker on this team. Sorry to those who will say everyone is 0-0 and everyone has an equal chance. so lets use the assets this year to draft and create depth and fill gaps and bring him next year for a couple of years and a run at superbowl
I think we could go to the Superbowl but getting Earl isn't going to be the deciding factor. I would go 4th and a player but we need our top 3 picks for starters.

At 28 years old I wouldn't mind. Just think of it as our 2nd pick going to safety and we take a wr in the 1st.

At that age you can still get 4-5 years out of earl.
I disagree. We have a ton of players that will need contracts and adding another high priced player plus lose draft capital isn't something I want. You think we can get 4-5 more years then we wait until next season and sign him as a free agent and keep our 2nd..... That could be our starting LG by the way which is more important right now
