PFF: Dez has seen a reduction in catchable targets

I believe a combination of Dez getting older and having injuries the last three seasons plus losing Romo as his quarterback led to his production going down. Him and Romo were one of the better QB-WR combos in the league from 2012 to 2014. The two just clicked and their playing styles meshed together almost perfectly. Unfortunately, Dak and Dez just didn't have that same chemistry. Whether you want to blame Dak or Dez, the scheme or the coaches, the two just didn't click.

Heard on JJT today in stats don't lie segment, Dez had 21 catches of 30 or more yards in 2014. In the 3 years since, just 21.

Blame it Romo being gone, Dak, the coaches. Regardless, they don't lie.

Or blame it on him playing 48 games vs 38 with a carousel of bums

He had 9 receptions of over 30 yards in 2014 and 5 receptions over 30 yards in 2017, 3 in 2016, and 2 in 2015.

Also does not take into account receivers running the wrong route, or the wrong depth on a route, or reading the coverage differently on an option route which leads to uncatchable balls.

The same can be said for the qb reading the wrong coverage, or being late with a read, missing a read

Why would PFF have pro-Dez agenda?

And again, it's a data point, whether they have an agenda is irrelevant as long as the methodology is consistent.

If they say a catch only counts if the happens under a full moon, it's still a data point using the same measuring stick for all receivers. If you take that one data point and decide it's the entire story, then that's on you.
It is how the data is being used is where the agenda lies. It is a flawed stat because there are variables that go into incomplete passes that nobody outside the team knows.

My goodness. It's not a flawed stat, it's a stat. That's how statistics works.

Said stat can be contextualized, sure, but there is no number on earth that accounts for all variables.

There isn't a single other stat in football that is any more flawed or flawless than this one – again, assuming consistent methodology.

What you want to argue is context, not the statistic.

That's where people run into trouble with PFF all the time. They show fans a number and fans add their own context and claim the number either matters or doesn't based on their own opinions then blame PFF.

The reduction in targets was a result of Dez' poor route running and inability to get open. He's not the player he was in 2014.

I think it's clear that both Dak and Dez struggled last year.
Yep. It's like people think only Dak OR Dez struggled instead of both.

Not only that, the offensive line, Zeke, and Dan Bailey struggled as well.

According to PFR, DeSean Jackson led the NFL with 15 catches of 30+ yards in 2014. Dez had 9 of Dallas' 18.

The last two years, Dez had 8 of Dallas' 33.

Did the same thing happen to our other WRs too?

Guys... Just admit Dak isn’t that great at getting his receivers the ball. He may get better at it but he’s just not there yet.

Aaron Rodgers he will never be. But he's more than good enough to get us to the show.

Your post was actually pretty good until you started with the Dez jersey stuff, I shouldn't say pretty good I should have said flat out wrong. Dak and Wilson maybe in the same place but that Seattle defense will go down as one of the best of it's time. Where is our dominate defense like theirs, the secondary wasn't just young they were the best in the league by far. Philly just won a sb, the Rams are loading up, Rodgers is still in GB, this NFC is much tougher now than what it was then.

Guess I hit a nerve with the Jersey comment.

Anywho... we are who we are... Dezs best friend and reason why he has the contract he has is currently commenting for CBS... rosters are forever changing season to season. The worst thing would have been trying to stick a square peg into a round circle making dak someone he isn’t.

Youre crazy lol, I still wear my Aikman jersey to games , 3rd favorite player ever

Perfect. Then you know Passing TD stats are dramatically inflated. Dez has TDs but the rest of his game was not great. He is not close to the best WR to wear the uniform despite the inflated stats. To me his Dallas career is a disappointment. Enjoy the day.

if he was the only real wart. Throw in mediocre Defense, mediocre coaching. Never going to happen with this coaching staff.
