I can see us needing to find a way to get Gregory, Lawrence, Irving & Taco all on the field on third downs.
Our DEs have always rotated in and out. No need to find a way to get them all playing time. Doing it on third down isn't happening... we are only allowed 11 players on the field, 4 of them won't be DE.

Not a pressing need. The league average is 33 % of snaps in base D, so essentially a first-down only position.
But the problem is, if you don't stop the run, you're going to be in base D a whole lot more than if you do. Second and 6 or 5 makes it tough to come off base D. You need adequate to above 1T even if he's only on for 1 play because it's central to only playing base D 33% of the time.

Stage 1, get clean, stage 2, petition for reinstatement are complete, stage 3, get to camp and win a job on roster and gameday lineup and stage 4, stay clean. If he could stay clean for over a year, he can complete stage 4.

One thing for certain, no other player is going to be more motivated for stage 3, I wish him the best that his long road back ends at a good place.

I have little concern with our run D.

Irving is a DT, and him and Taco both have the size to play inside on passing downs.

Jaylon Smith managed to stay on the field for 16 games last season. Yes, he didn't play well, but he suited up, competed, and did everything that the team asked of him. Nowhere have I said that they should count on him for anything more than what he did a season ago, but I wouldn't bet against him proving me wrong because of his attitude and work ethic.

Randy Gregory has managed to play 14 games across two seasons as a Cowboy. During that time, he wasn't productive, got injured and proved to be completely unreliable. I was against drafting him to begin with, and my thoughts have not changed. I don't think that he will ever be reliable enough to count on. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm not expecting him to.

They are in no way close to be similar in terms of how to view them.

Well you're wrong. This is great news and Gregory is about to unleash his fury

Ya know, that could happen. The Giants did just that their last SB year because that was their best 4 DL at the time.

@JoeKing One more thing I left out of my last post- You know Taco has really long arms like Irving and you know how Irving has a knack for batting down passes. With Taco it's all about strength IMO. If he can add some power to go along with his size and length he could make quite a nasty combo inside on passing downs with Irving. I haven't really thought about that until now honestly.
