I recently rented Tomb Raider (2018) from Redbox. Action/survival type movie. Probably the best movie adapted from a video game, but that isn't saying much. Middle-of-the-road popcorn movie.

I thought it was horrible, which is hard for me to say because a fan of anything with Alicia Vikander in it as a matter of general principal.

Just watched A Quite Place the other day.

I thought it was entertaining and worth the watch 7/10.

I also finally saw Black Panther.....my gosh was this movie overhyped. It was just your standard super hero movie; nothing more; nothing less.

5/10

I just watched Rampage and not only am I sorry I spent the time watching it, I am sorry I drove to the Redbox and have to drive back to return it. I am quickly unbecoming a Dwayne Johnson fan. Evidently, they pay him so much they have little left for anyone else including actors, director or writers. I guess they counted on his name and crappy CGI to carry this.

I pirated it and still felt dirty because I wasted 2 hours of my life on it.

Yeah, I knew from the commercials it was going to be bad.
This new one, Skyscraper, I think it is, looks equally bad, but at least it might have some comedic breaks, a la Die Hard.

Ooh! That's a good one for your movie series thread, if it hasn't been said yet!

And a good one and I disagree with Willis, it IS a Christmas movie because that's the only time I watch it, Lethal Weapon, Gremlins too.

Yeah, that's nothing more than a remake of Die Hard and he's not Willis.

It's like the Liam Neeson silliness. They take the plane movie and follow that up with the same movie on a train. What's next? In the back of a taxi with a rabid ferret?

There is almost zero humor in Skyscraper. That is it's biggest flaw (that and a bland villain). While very dumb, it has some good action. Unfortunately, it is lacking a sense of fun or charm.

Guess this is an adaptation of the video game. If so, I hope someone can tell me if the Need For Speed game has weird jail sentences built into it that penalizes players for crashes, etc.

Sounds crazy but anyone would understand if they saw this movie. Best part of the movie for me was the British woman who falls for the main character. That is about it.

The premise of the movie is both good and intelligent: Thor gets out of prison and uses his Asgardian computer hacking powers to catch the villain. On a serious note, Blackhat delivers Chris Hemsworth with an awful American accent using his prison experience to survive the US intelligence agencies, Chinese intelligence/military services, terrorist militia and the weirdest (but deadliest) computer nerd of all time.

I hoped the sequel would blow me away to the point where it would be a solid filler until Captain Marvel next March. Ant-Man and The Wasp fell short for me in that regard and left me wanting for much more.

Definitely loved Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp more than Paul Rudd as Ant-Man this time around. The jokes seems forced a lot more the second time around. Not sure who was more goofy as sub-villains, Lawrence Fishburne or Walton Goggins. Really like seeing Michelle Pfeiffer as the original Wasp and Michael Douglas' wife. Unfortunately, her screen time is way too brief in my opinion.

Rewatched Interstellar again... man. such a good movie. Matthew McCnaughey really did a good job.

Some of my favorite scenes... With a young daughter of my own... the second scene was emotional.

I just got home from see this movie. Honestly, I think you must've been in a bad mood or something, because this movie was pretty awesome. I liked it better than the first one. It was hilarious, for the most part. There were a few jokes that could've been omitted, but none that were actually bad, IMO.

I do agree that Michelle Pfeiffer (who we love so much, we can spell her name) could have had more time in the movie, but maybe next time? The extra scene during the credits was unexpected, but very well done, I thought.

Overall, I give it 8.5 out of 10.

lol. I can not describe how how big of a comic book nerd I am. Okay, I do not cosplay :p but I do love the characters a lot. My frame of mind is almost always positive—with the exceptions being when I think a director, studio, etc., might underachieve on the final product (i.e. Justice League) and I sit down slightly apprehensive from jump.

What I am honestly guilty of is personal expectations going into comic book-to-movie adaptations. The original movie focused on the origin and backstory of Ant-Man really well. In my opinion, the sequel’s direction was minimized somewhat by:

  • not enough detail on Ghost
  • miscasting and presentation of Sonny/did not like Walter Goggins goofy bad guy routine
  • Dr. Foster’s importance in the film/just was not feeling Lawrence Fishborne’s necessity in it
  • FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) entire characterization seemed cut entirely out of Michael Pena’s “I know a guy who knows a guy” Luis routine from the first movie/Sonny and Woo were running neck-and-neck for me
  • Luis, Dave (T.I.), and the guy playing Paxton had less charisma as a trio the second time around in my view
I enjoyed the movie and loved how Evangeline Lilly stayed true to her tough loyal daughter turned superhero role. The sequel was her ‘coming out party’ more or less so I was fairly okay with Paul Rudd taking a slight step back from the spotlight. Michael Douglas was pretty good too. And Michelle Pfeiffer simply shined in her itty bitty cameo. Looks like she and Douglas will have good chemistry.

Yeah. I am thinking the post credits scene sets up the third installment pretty darn well. Pfeiffer’s character survival and newfound ability courtesy of the microverse should be a significant plot line methinks but we will see. The scene did take me off guard too. I went into the movie thinking how this post Infinity War film would fit in the MCU continuity but quickly forgot about that once the movie started rolling haha. It was short but was one of the best scenes of the movie in my book.

I think you just described very adequately, how big of a comic book nerd you are. Believe it or not, I don't mean that in a bad way!

Maybe this, and several of the other Marvel movies are geared toward the majority of the populace, who aren't such huge comic book nerds, but enjoy a good superhero movie. The studio has to consider that most people didn't read a lot of comics, so they probably want to ease into it, without getting involved in what many would consider superfluous information, regarding the back stories and such.

I personally didn't read many comics, and the ones I did were mostly X Men, so that's probably why I enjoyed this more than you did.

No offense taken.

I am okay with what the rest of audience’s opinion about comic book adaptations in general—except opinions like Man Of Steel was, paraphrasing, “The Worst Movie Of All-Time!!!1!”

That tiny stab was for you @cml750 . Nah. My flick opinions are my own and mostly do not care if other members of the audience share them. Also, I try very hard to grade all movies I have ever seen in my life on the same scale between zero (i.e. The Kindred) to 10.00 (i,e. The Godfather). For example, Ant-Man and The Wasp entertained me way WAY more than Fantastic Four (to the point it ain’t even funny thinking about it), which I gave a 4.00 out of 10.00, but somewhat less than Avengers: Age Of Ultron that got a 8.50 out of 10.00 from me. Again, these are opinions I share but are just for me though. :)
