Another true storey appeared in the local newspaper a few years back about a local fellow who had spent years getting every member of Team Canada "72 Summit with the Soviets ... He had 1 signature to get, it was Ken Dryden's ... he wouldn't sign it ... he said "you'll sell it on eBay" ... I have no respect for Ken Dryden after that. That team was loaded with hall of fame players who signed no problem, no questions asked ... it takes one idiot to ruin what was a great adventure and hobby this guy pursued.
What an A hole Dryden is so what if he made some cash out of it?
As for ES he could have refused the request in a polite way .You reached the position you are in because of the fans so be classy.

I have never considered that about them anymore than I would guys that work construction or any blue collar job. People often confuse what people do as who they are. My father-in-law worked for the railroad and could tell you more about Classical music than anyone I know.

And as far as people complaining about truckers, I have seen a hell of a lot worse behind the wheel of other vehicles and a lot ruder hogging the left lane.

Now that I have opened this thread up about truckers, we can expect cowboyec along any minute with Elvis the Trucker stories. Elvis once drove a 18 wheeler around Saturn on the rings.
LMAO!

That took Emmitt down a few rungs in the realm of my opinion of him. I know he's human, I know he's been hounded by tons of people, but that's no way to be if you're at an event where people are paying you to be there. It's a beautiful piece of art that deserves attention. Your signature is the important one.
It's okay. I have no idea how I'd behave in his shoes, probably a lot worse. I probably wouldn't consider $100/signature worth seeing all those low lifes. Lol

Other notable covers ...

Richie Havens cover of Here's Comes the Sun
Peter, Paul and Mary's cover of Blowing in the Wind
Nazareth's cover of Love Hurts
Elton John's cover of Pinball Wizard
Elton John's cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Joe Cocker's cover of With a Little Help from My Friends
Didn't realize Nazareth's was a cover!

He wasn't all aholish about it. He just said, "If I shake your hand, then I gotta shake everyone's, and that's a long line."

It was an Everly Brothers song
Loved me some Don and Phil, great sound. "Dream" is one of the great love songs of all time and am surprised it hasn't been covered a lot. Same goes for The Fleetwoods' "Come Softly To Me".

This took some balls to cover the man known as "the Voice of Rock n Roll" but their treatment of it was really good. I remember Lennon make a comment about why artists didn't cover Roy Orbison because perfection can't be copied.

Tom Petty said he thought they were crazy forming the Wilbury's with Roy, we're going to sound like crap next to him.

I really never cared for Orbison. I recognize the talent and quality of his voice, I just don't like the sound.

S'ok but if you'd been around when he did "Cryin" and "Running Scared", you might have felt different. He wasn't from that teen idol group of Anka, Elvis, Avalon, etc and more like Buddy Holly. Those were the two nerds of rock n roll back then and I was a huge fan of both. To this day, I can play a Buddy Holly tune and brighten my day.

Any boy back then that had to wear glasses loved Buddy and Roy.

Watching the Foo Fights perform Rush tunes at Rush's Rock n Roll Hall of fame induction was pretty epic. I thought they were spot on and even better once the guys in Rush joined in.

@BrAinPaiNt Have you ever seen this one? It's pretty damn good. It's even before Cowboys from Hell was released and Kerry is on stage with them.

Interesting fact. Kerry was wearing wigs before he finally just shaved his head.

That was freaking outstanding, thanks man. But still, when it comes to Pantera and covers, it gets no better than my Texas bretheren's rendition of Uncle Ted's "Cat Scratch Fever".

My daughter thinks it's creepy as hell that they (the Travelling Wilbury's) did the video after Orbison died with the rocking chair holding his guitar. I thought it was pretty cool.

If she'd have been alive back then when he was "the Voice" she would have understood the respect they had for him.

I think that's really it. She isn't that aware of Orbison's stature. She also tends to read too much into things. She think's You're Sixteen, by Ringo Starr is creepy because to her it sounds like an adult dating a teenager. I explained to her the song is written from the perspective of a teenage boy, but she doesn't seem to buy that. I find it funny she doesn't have the same problem with the Beach Boys singing about teenage girls.

It was a nice tribute.

I agree

I agree. The guy said he had no intention of selling it. He had spent over 10 years getting those signatures...After that storey appeared I lost all respect for him. Not easy to do, he was a childhood here of mine, but then came along Saint Patrick who I think is one of the top 5 goalies all-time if not the greatest...

And for hockey player to be that way was kind of surprising. They are usually some of the most down to earth people...
