Seems like Stephen Jones is unbending on this one. I don't see it happening. I would give up a 2nd and "change" in a heartbeat for Thomas. If McCaffery burns the D like Gurley did last year where he made Heath (who's solid) look like a deer on ice, then I shudder to think what will happen with our current safeties behind Heath.

What about all of the other plays where our safeties didn't give up squat?

Teams give up big plays. Dallas has been pretty good about not giving up a lot of big plays.

At this point I’d tell Seattle it’s their problem. They wanted to play hardball all off-season and now they can watch him sit out games and walk after the season for nothing. I’m not giving up picks at this point to get a guy in here to work him back into football shape when the season has started.

The Cowboys' 3rd round pick next year very likely will be near a full round higher and a year earlier than the comp pick Seattle would receive.
Yes but I understand why they won’t trade for a third now. They seemingly don’t want to give him his way unless it’s for a second. Now thing is what will our second be. High second or lower end second that’s close to the third round. They likely would rather trade him to afc and not deal with it.

Defensive Backs can Play on Elite Level into their mid 30s easily. Woodson, Revis, Talib, Reed heck even Terrance Newman was a Starter till he was 39.

ET turned 29 in May, that means he is under 30 for the whole Season. I bet that he can still Play on Elite Level for another 3-4 years.

There is no Safety in next years draft that sniffs ET Level, not even in the early 1st Round.

If we wait till next Offseason with a HOPE to sign him there (remember other Teams can outbid us with $$$) you never know whats gonna happen for that season.

Maybe T.Smith is out, Lee could be done or hurt. You never know.

NFL is not a League you can plan success in years to come. Eagles went all in last year and it paid off. Need to take chances while you can.

I wanted ET a few months ago for a 2nd rounder but he's been sitting out all of training camp now. Is he in game shape and how long would it take to get some chemistry with the rest of the defense?

Not sure I want him anymore for that price.

Honestly feel this could go either way. I've seen players choose money more times than not. He wants to be a Cowboy but if we get severely outbid by one of the cap floor teams who knows. I want him now, simply because I feel this team can compete and he is a difference maker. Now if you're in the camp that doesnt dare to dream and you've already seen the conclusion of this season then yeah, why waste the resources.

By missing a game already no way I give up a 2. Plus he hasn't practiced and was injured so no way he's in football shape.

That is the thing is if they trade him to us the 2nd round pick gets worse and worse

It could be in the late 20s with EThomas

Not all 2nd rounders are built the same....... a CLE 2nd is like a 1st rounder........ a NE 2nd rounder is a 3rd

Agreed, but that was a little different scheme with Jones as FS.

Seattle will do the right thing by the player, and team. They have to or they will have egg on their face. Its getting ugly in Seattle and they can save face if they move him OR sign him to an extension.

Demarcus Lawrence.
Randy Gregory.
David Irving.
Sean Lee.
Jaylon Smith.
Chidobe Awuzie.
Earl Thomas.

This team could have A LOT of elite, game-changing players on defense, and well divided on each level of the D.

Go get Earl Thomas. Give the 2nd we almost gave at the draft this year.

It's BS when people say "he won't make a difference in a Super Bowl this year." He very well might. With this talent on D and a good, minimum mistake offense controlling the clock through a power run game, we could absolutely be a contender this year.

Just a reminder.l to all those that want to give a 2nd pick for Earl, even though we could have him in 6 months and not give up anything...

Not counting ET on the above list... 5 out of the six players name on this list are 2nd rounders

Our most recent second round pick netted the Cowboys a player who looks to be a fixture on the OL for a decade or more, AND is saving the team a ton of money due to the cheap rookie contract. ET on the other hand, is an aging vet on the downside of his career, with a recent injury history, AND will cost the team a lot of salary cap space. This would affect what the team can offer its own valuable players in the near future.

ET would probably make the team better in the short run, but the very high cost of both salary cap dollars and draft pick(s) would certainly be harmful in the long run. Thankfully, the team seems to have learned its lesson about this type of short sighted thinking.

we aint gonna find another ET in next years draft, period. You strike while the iron is hot as they say. This is a unique opportunity to add a special player and fix a position that's been patchwork for nearly 20 years! Everyone is over thinking it.

I can certainly respect that position.

And it definitely seems to me that these sudden "reports" have been flowing out of Seattle.
