We can thank Romo's **** contract and awful FA signings that had us close to the top in dead money the last 2 years. But I'll give the FO some credit that unlike the eagles and rams we did not plan to have a rookie QB starter on a cheap deal. They set themselves up for it we had to find ours because our starter couldn't take a single hit anymore.

Rooms contract was a very team friendly contract for his level of play. His early retirement set us back on the cap. Dez' poor contract was much more limiting. Three years into a contract that he way underperformed.

It all adds up over the years. Money keeps getting shifted year to year and contract to contract. This is the first year we had a little money to spend.

So I want to know whose fault this is? The “genius McClay who allegedly is the real GM? If it’s not McClay then is it Jerry who allegedly no longer meddles in this stuff as much? Or is the most convenient scapegoat because McClay would never make a mistake and Jerry allegedly stays out of it for the most part? Someone is to blame but I’m not sure anyone really knows who.

Why are you the way you are?

McClay's influence really bubbled around 14 when he became the director of scouting, and the drafting of Zack (over Johnny) and Tank. The defacto GM stuff only really gained traction last year. Financials have always been Stephen's wheelhouse and I think the results lay at his feet.

Romo wanted to compete for the starting role in training camp last season. The Cowboys told him no. That's where the crater began.
Dak should have never even seen the field. Romo cracked the door open and Dak kicked it open. Romo is to blame no one else.

Dak isn’t getting a big deal so this article means nothing.

If all you took from this article is about a LTC for Dak then you've bought into the JJ madness like the rest of his clan. This article completely shows how stupid JJ, SJ, and Willy Bob are. No other combination has ever been as unsuccessful as these three morons, and yet we keep getting sucked in year after year because of our love of the star.

Let them get healthy before we state that absolutely.
Let the O line get healthy. Wait until Irvin gets off suspension. Hope that Lee doesn't get hurt. Give Jaylon 1 more year to heal. Hope that Gregory doesn't get suspended for life this time.

When you need that many things to go right and the odds of each one working out are so small there truly is no hope.

Lol, why am I the way I am? I guess I’ve a been a fan longer than you otherwise you would understand.

Sorry you can’t understand a legitimate question without getting personal about it. From my understanding, it was actually Stephen who over rode Jerry on Manziel by literally grabbing the card out of his hand. As I’ve already said, a lot of people blame Jerry when things go wrong yet they also say he doesn’t do as much when things go right and that it’s all McClay. Stephen has become the more recent scapegoat because Jerry has allegedly given him more power.

I’d like to know who is currently really running the show when it comes to personnel decisions, salary cap, etc. Why is that so hard for you to understand with out being offended?

Lol. I get criticized for defending Garrett who almost everyone hates and now I’m being criticized for calling out Jerry, McClay or maybe a combination of all 3. I can’t win :(

The team finally has put itself in a sensible position where it has flexibility and options. I criticize what they did in the past.

And praise what they are doing now.

Fair enough but I’m still not convinced of what they’re doing now, that will take a few more years.

Our resident health experts keep claiming Romo’s injury was because he was fragile, while actual spine doctors said it was typical of any athlete and that it would take about 8 weeks to heal without surgery, and lo and behold, the ignorant spine doctors got it right and not our resident forum experts and Romo was throwing darts all over the field in 8 weeks and looking much better than Dak in practice and against the Eagles, to the point even the Eagles right off the bat changed their defensive alignments to take into account Romo’s arm..

I mean let’s also ignore the fact that injury was Romo playing a game just to get back in shape after a collar bone preventative surgery, similar to what Rodgers had to deal with his own issues, and Romo had gained weight and was still slow and just working himself back into shape in training camp, which is what it is for anyways..

let’s also ignore the fact the Seattle lineman cam from behind and gave him basically a dirty hit and came while Romo was actually going in sitting position from the slide.. a defender CANT hit a QB that’s sliding... of course it’s arguable he was in the process, but arguing Romo can’t take a slide or should be aware of a defender coming from behind him, when he’s alresdy sliding for the defender in the front just shows how delusional these guys intent on painting this fragility on Romo.. they can’t even get the play right..

but yeah Romo is supposed to do what humans normally don’t do and when he doesn’t, call him ‘fragile’..

I guess, if it makes you feel better that we benched this guy when we had Zeke and our OL blocking better than ever and could have more than adequately worked him back into the rotation to defend the bum play of Dak and his ability to throw franchise record pick 6s. He should have added to his collection last week if Zeke didn’t knock the ball thrown behind him down..

I always remembered him coming to camp with some ailing issue even if he didn't miss games. Maybe it was after the extension, but I remember when he signed the extension that Jerry was delusional for thinking he would last that long.
Wow. More negative comments about Romo to distract people from making negative comments about Dak. Where have I seen this before?

We had enough money to sign and extend a certain Seattle Safety, (had the Hawks not tried to hold up the front office with a crazy trade demand) because we did not bring back Dez and Witten retiring. Plenty of money. With Romo's dead money all gone, next year we could spend stupid money (and that is usually what it is 'stupid' money) on plenty of pieces, but if things keep going the way they are, we may have to overpay for a FA QB next season to give Dak someone to compete against.

It's romo's fault we are in this mess to begin with. Dak should have never seen the field. Except Romo doesn't know how to slide or throw the ball away in preseason. He had to let us down one last time. If dak looks like this the rest of the year. Move up in the draft for a QB. and get some help on the outside in FA

The highest paid quarterback (Romo) and wide receiver (Bryant), the second highest paid defensive tackle (Cedric Thornton), and the second/third highest paid cornerbacks (Orlando Scandrick and Nolan Carroll) on the Cowboy cap in 2018 are not on the team.

If you want an indictment of poor cap management, there it is.

Who is responsible for the cap? Stephen Jones.

And he's next in line to replace Jerry Jones. Or, if you believe some people, already has.

The future looks bright?
