One of the biggest problems for Jerry is Fan Apathy

-----Wow since 1986.

Ok smart guy.....how many people can say that they've watched every game but one in 33 years? All through the late 80's when they were blacked out, I'd go into a seedy private club (bar) that would lock you in and show them illegally....fights in the bar almost every game. BTW, been a fan since 1975 and watched every game I could, prior to the move to Dallas. No more blind loyalty to an owner who refuses to staff the best coaches, and a son who like to pinch pennies like his inheritance depends on it.

It seems like a big problem for Jerry is the ever increasing fan apathy.
It is palpable on this forum, which is populated with once Die-hard fans such as myself.
Now there is a great sense of Whatever among the posters.
I think getting older may have something to do with it just realizing that it's just a football game and not worth over-prioritizing it above other parts of life.
A big part is just seeing the futility and or mediocrity we've been mired in for almost a quarter century.
It wears you down over time and causes you to get to a point where you're not as invested anymore.

Completely agree. I hear Jerry and just tune out. The franchise has been average to bad for 22 years.

Whatever fan apathy that’s present, I have no doubt in my mind that it is only synonymous with the fans that had the pleasure of rooting for the cowboys pre1996. For ones like me that came aboard during the Chan Gailey years, there’s no apathy. Y’all are spoiled because y’all saw Superbowl teams. Romo is the best cowboys QB I’ve witnessed. For the ones with apathy, he’s not even in your top3.
It's a shame u didnt see the big 3 play. Watching aikman play would make you cringe watching Romo

Not me.

I've seen every game since the early 70's.

Negative! I’ve been a fan for 50 years, and have witnessed good AND bad. There are MANY in my demo who are the polar opposite of apathetic, and there is no doubt in MY mind that your characterization is erroneous. In all honesty, I could say that many of the younger fans don’t have the patience OR the loyalty for a franchise that hasn’t provided much to brag about the past two decades.

There's zero fan apathy. A message board of extremist fanatics isn't a reasonable barometer of normal fans. Until games stop selling out and TV ratings plummet (and not because of people watching on their Yahoo app or whatever streaming service, legal or otherwise) and merch sales dry up, this is an imaginary problem among people noticing a random message board is anecdotally seemingly less active than they expected it to be.

Jerry is Yoda like with his ability to read Cowboys Nation.

He's got his fingers on the pulse and when it skips a beat, he leaps into action.

He knows the precise moment that he must take action and never hesitates.

We'll are be posting along praising and complaining as we do and then one day....BAM...

He'll trade for Alex Smith.

And all will be right again in Dallas.

:banghead:

If this were remotely true we trade for Alex Smith instead of the Deadskins in February. We sign Hankins and tre Boston and look at tight end in the draft earlier than when we did and take a guy like mark andrews as opposed to a Stanford blocking te who is lucky to be on a team.

He also signs a vet corner instead of letting the enture secondary walk.

I’m Still here and every team in the division has bragging rights over my squad. And I love on the east coast so I run into all our rival fans all the time. Don’t tell me I’m not patient or loyal enough.

If the Dallas FO isn't open to invest enough to sign winners in free agency, many fans will be reluctant to invest in merchandise. The same can't be said about what it costs to attend the games. Dallas fans will show up to be seen about as often as they'll show up to see a winning team. It's often been said that the patrons that attend games aren't the ones that are likely to be vocally very supportive during games. I believe that to be accurate in most cases. Raucous vocal support is obviously not a strength at AT&T Stadium. Many fans are now content to being entertained in today's era of Cowboys football.

I believe Jerry is more concerned about sales these days than winning. Of course, fan apathy affects sales to a great extent, so in that sense, Jerry is likely to be affected by public apathy when it affects sales more-so than when it affects winning nowadays. In Texas, he'll fill the stands, win or lose but when merchandise sales are affected, it's cause for concern, although evidently not quite enough to make winning the priority it once was.

In the early days of the franchise, it was of paramount importance to uphold a winning tradition. Now that this ownership's fan base is established and can be counted upon to remain supportive, the importance of winning has seemingly diminished considerably. The inability to function smoothly within the salary cap likely has had a great deal to do with the ownership's reluctance to invest as generously as they once did in the team's talent level, imo. Whether or not that tendency changes in the future with somewhat improved cap management remains to be seen.

I don't understand fans like you. You jumped on a bandwagon that you've got no good reason to jump on and have stayed there without a good reason to stay. The futility of it all... wasted time. My generation got to see this team win 5 SB titles and for that reason, stuck as lifetime faithful to the Cowboys. But you younger fans can save yourselves. There is nothing here to see. Get out and find a new team that will reward your loyalty with a Championship.

I’m not a fearweather so go talk that ish to somebody it warrants. I’m a proud and happy cowboys fan. It’s not fan like me you don’t understand. It’s loyalty you don’t understand. You basically perpetuating the stereotype that all cowboys fans are only fans because of The Super Bowl and popularity.

You prolly a Yankees fan too, aren’t you?

I freak'n hate the Yankees! You are barking up the wrong tree. You being a Cowboys fan is understood. Be loyal but don't at the same time accuse me of not understanding it. My post was never malicious, only seeking to understand but you seem intent on deflecting with ill-tempered barbs. The accusatory and presumptive position you are making is unwise. I have no beef with you. The defensive nature you strike back with is unwarranted.

What was the gist of your original reply to me? Maybe I misinterpreted but I feel like I comprehend the intent behind your message.

Yes! You can’t really characterize an entire demo, can you? I have noticed, however, increasing numbers of younger fans with shorter attention spans, overreaction, and less tolerance for trying times.

I’m in Pennsylvania, SURROUNDED by the enemy—Steelers, Eagles, Giants, Commanders, not to mention the nationwide army of Dallashaters among the other franchises we’ve beaten routinely in the old days—Buffalo, Miami, Denver, Green Bay, San Francisco, Minnesota, etc.

They just had their lowest opening weekend tv ratings in a decade. Apathy is setting in whether you want to believe it or not.

Gist? It was not a riddle or anything with hidden meaning. Let's go back to it...

The first sentence says it all... I have a lack of understanding of fans that have never witnessed a Cowboys championship season. I've never had the benefit of understanding what it's like to be an NFL fan from your perspective. I even concede you are loyal to the team but see it as not reciprocated. My post is seeking understanding, not pointed in derogation, yet you reply with accusations of me being a Yankee fan. Those are fighting words where I'm from.

With the loss to the Giants tonight means really NOTHING. Cowboys have TWO (2) playoff wins since 1997 and that's one of the worst during that time period. Jerry is driving the the Titanic so why anyone coaching would stop to sinking ship
