If the Cowboys have lost all faith in Dak, just let the season play out. If he plays poorly, the Cowboys will have a bad record and be in position to draft a QB high in the 1st round.
If by some miracle Romo comes back, plays well, the Cowboys still won't win the Super Bowl and will just be in a poorer draft position.
Really, Cowboys should be using the rest of this season to determine whether DAK is the long term answer or not. If he's not, move on. Forget Dez, Romo, Witten, etc.

Don’t bring rationality into this. I want my Hollywood moment.

Dez is not the Dez of 2012-14. Would he be the best receiver on the team if he came back?

Probably, but not by much. He's not going to put Dallas "over the top" to a SB title, Cowboys should develop who they have now, and draft a stud WR next year, if they think the receivers they have now can't cut it.

And it's funny how people don't want to re-sign Beasley because "he's almost 30", when Dez will be 30 in a month and that doesn't seem to be a problem...

Just finished listing to Podcast with KT and he is hearing whispers from Ben Rogers (who has been correct several times & has good sources) that following might transpire in next week or so:

1. Tony Romo & Dez Bryant might be signed. Dallas currently has $18 million in available cap space.
2. Current league rules on QB would heavily favor Romo return.
3. Dez Bryant continues to insist with Mike Fisher that he still sees himself as Dallas Cowboy.

Buckle in. The internet will break if this goes down.
This sounds nuts but Ben Rogers contacts are Tony Romo and Tony Romo.
He is a basketball and golfing buddy.
Fish obviously knows exactly what Dez thinks as his best buddy in the media.

But even if they signed both guys they wouldn't start them this week so this all seems a fairy tale if not a full on troll job.

Likely a reason it was sold on a podcast and not the radio shows they run daily.

I noticed all those empty seats too. Hmmmmmm.

I was really surprised at the Giants game. Home opener, Division rival & a night game should’ve filled the stadium. wasn’t surprised to see vacant seats for Detroit, but was to see the amount.

Ere you a season ticket holder? Section 217 here.

DEZ
Vet minimum + 10k a catch
50 CATCHES would only be another 1/2 million
100k per td

Great. So set him up to scream even more for the ball and complain that he's not getting it.

Uh....difference is the caddy doesn't try to tackle you after you hit the ball....

The guy is 38, hasn't played in 2 years and has zero chemistry with more than half the receiving corp....this is so ludicrous it's not even worth debating.

I loved Romo and am a huge fan, but his days of playing are done....give it up
Not playing in a real game in two years is a legit issue.
Finding chemistry with the WRs would not be....he'd have more chemistry within 2 weeks than they currently have...and make them all look much better.

But, I agree, this whole concept seems really far-fetched.
He has a great gig right now and even though I think Dallas would for sure be NFC contenders, they would not be anywhere near the Rams level overall.

Dez would be the team's best red zone target and that is a very real concern at this point.
You don't have to sign him to big money nor a long-term deal.
I'd give him 2 years and 4M, 2M day one then 1m a season.
It's a drop in the bucket and he would likely score you 5 TDs each season.

Watched the Hurns catch ont hat slant on the game winning drive and man that was poor Wr play.
He faded away from the ball to catch it with his body... gross.

You need a WR next year whether you add Dez or not.

Dez is better than Hurns, Thompson, Rico. 3 guys they are taking to games.

Dez may have needed humbling and he may have needed a reality check. If he did he got both.
He's working with best personal WR coach in the business.
IF he has anything left DAL should benefit from that and get it.
If he doesnt 4M is nothing to pay to find out.

BTW if this was Jordy Nelson we were talking about it would be the same thing.
We need a better receiving option.

I would love to see Romo back but if you think he looked rolly polly and out of shape when he played just think of what kind of shape he's now.

Amen to that! People act like this team is just better qb (Or a qb and safety) play away from a SB-level team. Getting ET is now out of the picture, at least for this year.

Cowboys added 4 receivers and a guard to the team, then had to replace Frederick. To expect all those guys to gel in one season is unrealistic, imho..

Sort of curious - how could they bring Dez back, as far as the salary cap rules? He was owed a boatload of money, by releasing him the team saved money.

So what would prevent any team, that had a player with a high salary cap hit from just releasing them and re-signing them for less money? Would be a very convenient way to reduce your cap hit, and it's hard to see the NFL allowing that. There would be no way to know if the player really wasn't wanted, or didn't want to play anymore, he'd just "retire", sit around for a few weeks or months and then magically return to the team for a lower salary.

Remember Junior Seau, said "I don't want to/can't play anymore" and left, only to sign with the Pats a short time later, at a low salary, rather than the Pats having to suck up his Chargers salary/give up draft picks to get him. Just another way for the Patriots to cheat, or at least bend the rules to suit them.

I'm no salary cap expert, maybe somebody here can figure it out, not saying they couldn't re-sign Dez or Tony, but it seems way too easy...

Uh they do this all the time.

So let's say he would be the best red zone target. 5 tds a season? One td every 3 games, basically, that's not going to put this team into the SB, and then you'd be paying Hurns, etc. to sit on the bench, and greatly reduce what chance you have to see what they can do.

If the Cowboys were close to being a SB team, I'd take a chance on him.

But they're not. All he would do was delay the development on this team, if that can even happen...

The defense legit? That's a stretch, Wilson smoked this defense and couldn't stop Stafford who was completing 80% of his passes. The Lions would have probably won that game if there was time on the clock.

 at "Current league rules on QB would heavily favor Romo return."

It doesn't matter, Romo's body was so broken down that even legal hits would injure him

No they won't. That was proven in 2016 when Dak led us to a 13-3 record. I don't want to hear all the excuses like they knew what Dak was then. That was all about putting one person above the team.

Naw my friends are still telling me that I was right about Dak in 2016. Brady and Manning never had the rookie season that Dak had so if you bought into Dak you'd have to think that he was on course to be one of the greatest ever.

My thoughts were that he fell into a perfect situation offensively, he caught the league by storm and had the ball bounce his way (ints).

To be great as a qb in the NFL it takes experienced intelligence, a rookie can be smart but he still doesn't have the experience to go with it. Manning had the smarts but his lack of NFL experience caused him to break a record for ints.

I can't really take this particular scoop seriously...and I don't...but this podcast is generally more on the mark with inside news than any other local one.
