CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
i get it.
it is not personal.
your website and the posters have a mutually beneficial relationship.
you want to drive content in a systematic way so non-regular readers can get interesting content.
it all makes sense.

however you enforced your rules in a fashion that is unnecessarily rigid.
all you have to do is to send someone a private message to cut it out.
you will get the desired result and probably an apology on top of it.

furthermore, this is the off-topic zone and you are even closing threads in this zone.
i highly doubt even 5% of your non-regular readers come here regularly.
so you will only get more clicks and readership if you cut the rules out here in this zone.
this zone is really for the regulars, and allowing regulars to interact with each other in a loose flexible fashion seems optimal for regulars to enjoy the experience more.
happy regulars would create the content you want in the other zones.

it is the same reason that people hang out at starbucks for hours and technology incubators copy the cafe scene and the google campus.
it is also the reason the beer thread has thrived with people making friends outside the website.
The Off-topic Zone means non-Cowboys (which is the primary topic of the site) threads are allowed here. It does not mean each thread in the OTZ is a chit-chat or general chatroom thread.

The threads themselves are off-topic to the site, but the posts must be on-topic to the thread topic.

In fact, until this thread, we had never allowed general chit-chat threads on this site in any forum. There were a LOT of complaints from several users about this thread early on. We made an exception because we wanted to give you guys a place to chit-chat that was out of the way of everyone else.

I spend most of my time on this site in the Off-topic Zone threads and most of them stay on-topic to the thread topic even when the comments are short, laughs, etc., they are all staying on topic.

The bacon/butter thread in the OTZ that was closed was perfectly fine until it digressed into a chit-chat thread among 3 users.

We even allowed you to keep the cheerleader thread even though we have never allowed photos of people in skimpy outfits to be posted here except for Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders in their official outfits. Why? Because people fall into the one-up trap and start posting non-cheerleaders, young girls, very skimpy outfits, near nudity, etc. images which is exactly what happened with that thread. You only see the last posts that are visible. There are a LOT (understatement) of deleted posts in that thread.

You didn't even appreciate the fact that we yet again altered our 15+ year rules to allow you to have that thread. What that tells me is that there is no benefit at all to loosening the long established rules here on things because ultimately, people will go too far and when it is ultimately closed or deleted, then that will lead to even more complaints.

Another thing you guys seem to assume is that this site mainly made up of adults males. We have a LOT more female users on this site than you realize. Most guys simply do not understand that most women lurk but do not post on sites like this because of the locker room mentality of men and sports. I know for a fact there are several users here who post regularly that are female but they have male usernames specifically so they won't be stalked, attacked, insulted or discredited simply because they are female and hang out on a sports forum.

We also have a lot of young Cowboys fans on this site. Some are kids of well-known users and others are just fans of the Dallas Cowboys. They come here for Cowboys news and discussions, not to read about middle-aged and older men's never-going-to-happen fantasies.

As I have said many times, I have to look at a much bigger picture than everyone else. I have to find a way for most users to enjoy this site even when that means doing or allowing things that I personally don't want to do which happens way more often than you realize.

CowboysZone has grown and outlived a lot of forum sites over the years for a reason. We must be doing something right.

if you would simply talk to us like this, it would be really simple, straight-forward and reduces wasted effort.

i am sure your formula works or you would not have survived so long. please do not view what i wrote as lecturing, but it is really just someone who has previously managed a business talking to someone who runs a business.

regarding women on the site, the only lady i know here is a daboyz and she is a part of the gang in every way. locker-room talk is unavoidable in a sport site like this, so i would expect women to expect it. i had no idea there were near-nudity going on in the cheerleader thread, but i guess i should have expected it. well, thanks for putting in the work to make it possible.

after you have explained it, i do see that you have made adjustments for us. my question still is why would you care to police the chit-chat rule in the OTZ? people going to the OTZ are almost definitely regulars who are here to interact with other active posters? i understand the threads get messy after they have run their course. however, what is the harm from having this type of disarray near the end of a thread in the OTZ? you may want to enforce the rules everywhere so the chit-chat is under control in the fan zone. however, if you allow the community to interact in a more organic way in the OTZ, it may actually improve your content in the fan zone.

in the fan zone, you are obviously trying to allow for some chit-chat while stopping things from going out of hand. as the moderator, you may say no chit-chat, and hope that would limit the chit-chat to a controllable level. instead, why not just limit chit-chat to x posts? it may be much easier for posters if we had a number in our mind. i certainly know that would be easier for someone like me.

for example, how about 5 bantering posts (everyone involved) before shutting ourselves down and getting back on topic?

Btw, the Astros are getting beat @RGV_C_Los must be ticked!

Hola amigo, ni modo compa, we lost big but I had a great time with my son. Good quality time with my son is priceless.
Yeah I wish we had won but the Sox were the better team today. Man what a festive atmosphere around the stadium before the game started. I loved it.
My son is going to see if he can find a couple more reasonably priced tickets for tomorrow lol. Glutton for punishment lol
We were in the nosebleed section but still had a great view.

Go Stros!:flagwave:

the community only works if it is mutually beneficial. if it runs in a draconian way unnecessarily, people will move to alternatives, like alcatraz. having an alternative is the reason i liked alcatraz, though the owner is a total nut.

http://21st-amendment.com/ is my brewery of choice currently. Amazing beers.
Thanks for that link BRIAN:thumbup:

That October fest brew they've labeled Maurzan(?) sounded like a good draught to quaff with that biscuit & bread flavor starting out,,, SHEESE,,,could you imagine if some of these brewers would start substitution of 50% of their proscribed hops in the recipe with 50% sticky green reefer buds?,,,ha,,, it would be of the most unpalatable brewed beverage of lingering after taste,,, a jigger shot of ever clear or possibly kerosene lamp oil would be required in cutting that aftertasteo_O
