"It is I, Ensign Pulver, and I just threw your stinkin' palm tree overboard!!"
(It's been about 35 years since I saw it, so I may not have gotten that quite right.)
Loved that movie and Cagney was as wacko a captain as Bogart was on “The Caine Mutiny”.

I was a fan of Bogart, Cagney and Fonda as well as Jimmy Stewart but I would not miss any movie Jack Lemmon was in. He could do it all and he stole the show in Mister Roberts.

I didn't make it to the theater last week. I did watch Adrift at home, though.

Will be seeing Bohemian Rhapsody tomorrow night.
Please let us know what you think about that movie. I'm hoping they do justice to every element. I haven't been this excited about a movie in a long time.

re your other post: It's ok. Not everyone agrees The English Patient sucks.

I will. I'm no Queen expert, but I'm looking forward to it. Hoping the concert scenes sound great at the Dolby Cinema (A Star is Born sounded amazing). Checked the RT scores today and surprised that they aren't that good, not that I trust that site...at all.

Oh there is one short film I’m dying to see. “Keep the Gaslight Burning” -‘18. It’s just a 20minute Victorian era ghost story Rick Bakers friends made. It keeps getting awards in the industry, but basically plays at film festivals. I think it should be out on Amazon prime. I follow Rick Baker (famous makeup man) so that’s how I found about it. He’s stupid talented. If anyone sees it,let me know.

“The Emperor’s Club”, never heard of it but watched it because I like Kevin Kline and really liked it. It’s about a teacher and his students but goes much deeper than that and has a little twist that really strikes home.

It’s no “Inside Moves”, my go to people movie but it is definitely worth the time. It’s on HBO. And if you’ve never watched “Inside Moves”, while it’s not really a holiday film but does have a holiday scene that is memorable, that is the greatest people movie I’ve ever seen and it never fails to make me feel better than before I watched it. If you are feeling broken, give this movie a shot.

I ended up seeing two movies, both in Dolby.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - This was bad. A terribly basic and poorly told plot. Bad acting. Poor action. The title is misleading. It was off from a technical level as well with a lot of bad editing and poorly framed shots. Amateur hour with a budget.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Overall, pretty good. For the most part it is a fairly by the numbers music biopic that is elevated somewhat by Queen's music. Performances are solid all around, and it never felt like it dragged. However, it never really did anything to be amazing, and sometimes lacked a kinetic energy. That is, until it absolutely nails the ending (final 20-30 minutes). That ending certainly elevates it a good deal. Overall, the movie sounded good - very clean - but was slightly disappointing to me. It felt a little...restrained. When I saw A Star is Born in Dolby, the audio was so enveloping and made it not only feel like I was at a concert, but that I was on the stage too. Here, it felt like I was watching a movie with really good sound. While both sounded great, one took it to another level. Now, this was less true of the end which felt much closer to being at a concert. I doubt anyone would really be able to tell the difference if they didn't see these movies on a Dolby Screen, or anywhere else that had Atmos or similar.

just saw the movie online. It's receiving mixed reviews and I noticed several pans of the picture. I really enjoyed it and don't see what the griping was about. They covered about as much ground as they could in 2 hrs 14 mins. And Remy Malek was a convincing Freddie Mercury. I didn't think the teeth were at all over-the-top - that was an essential part of the Mercury look.

From what I've seen in the trailers, his teeth actually seem understated.

I saw Bohemian Rhapsody last night and I loved it! I thought it was entertaining and well done. The Live Aid performance scene was incredible and insanely accurate (down to the Pepsi cups sitting on Mercury's piano). I'm glad I went!

Sorry Kevin, but I have to report you for this egregious offense. I am what is known as the Judas poster and my assignment was to get you posting critiques again and you took the bait.

Seriously, there is no good reason for you not to continue your critiquing because A, you actually go to the movies and B, you actually go to the movies.

If that was me, my critique would be influenced by what blights on humanity sat around me rustling in popcorn boxes and making it their life’s work to get that last Raisinette hiding at the bottom of the box. Shaking the cup to see if there’s any liquid left in it when they just did that 12 seconds ago automatically smashes my tomato.

When I saw Bad Times at the El Royale (a fun movie) there were 3 ladies behind me giving a running commentary loud enough for the entire theater. They kep dropping things on the ground too. I think they may have had a little something extra in their drinks.

Overlord - This was okay. Kind of drags for the first hour or so. Not really a zombie film if that's what you expect. Kind of a slight action/horror mix.

The Girl in the Spider's Web - This was not good. I was fighting sleep most of the time. The character of Lisbeth was noy really important. It could have been anyone really dressed up somewhat goth. The whole sister thing really doesn't have an impact on the events either. The plot really is just extremely convoluted and not very interesting.

Train to Busan (available on Netflix)

Korean zombie movie that's been highly touted. Entertaining but doesn't bring anything new to the game.

So what would you rate Overlord? I've been wanting to see that.

Disappointed to hear about Spider's Web. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo w/Runy Mara was one of the best suspense movies I had seen in awhile when it came out.
