Never in my four years in the military did I witness a rank above me cry when giving instruction or a speech. I'm only talking about males though; I didn't consider the women to be real Marines.

I guess thats your experience. I also did four years in military and I've had superior officers cry when dealing with emotional events

Did they ever cry after you completed an obstacle course? ... because that's basically what beating the Commanders amounts to.

If they did, then you must've been in the Air Force.

I don’t know that I’ve seen Garrett cry before. I’ve seen him get choked up a few times, but it’s always been at something like this, where the context makes it obvious and appropriate.

It’s not like he’s Dick Vermeil out there, crying when a challenge flag isn’t upheld or anything.

Vermeil has a disorder and can't control it. He cries more when he's happy than sad.

Emotions are controlled by hormones. Anger, joy, sadness, or fear. Our most primal instincts. Fight or flight. They're difficult for most to control. I'm not one to cry. Except when one of my labs dies.

First of all, this is not a bash Garrett thread. Let's have intelligent discussion. To those of you who have played sports or ever had a coach of any kind, is it good or bad that Garrett cries in front of the team after practically every win? I ask because men tend to perceive crying as weakness. I can tell that they all love Garrett. I also heard about Landry and Parcells crying on rare occasions. I know they were both highly respected. The situation with Gallup is understandable, but Garrett cries over everything. As a woman, I think it"s awesome, but what do you men (and women) think? Can a leader of men cry a lot and be successful?

If he weeps uncontrollably, NO!! If it's controlled tears with a few cuss words thrown in, absolutely! It could be like this after a win "Ok guys, huddle up, I have some words to say. We kicked their damned farking arses from here to kingdom come. My pops is in kingdom come sniffle sniffle I need a huge tissue" or like this after a loss " Jeebus H Chrisymas guys are you trying to get my arse fired from this farking team sniffle sniffle I need a huge tissue". Now, if it's walk into the locker room and cry me a river that's different!! See the difference mamacita? Real men use huge arsed MAN tissues

I thought JG was very authentic. Not sure if JG has experienced this in his own family but his level of emotion was warranted and likely appreciated by Gallup. IMO this has nothing to do with football but everything about the bigger picture of life itself.

I don't recall the name of it but that was addressed by his wife back when he was with the Rams. She said he changed when he was the HC of the Eagles. He stepped down because he had basically fried himself, sleeping, when he did, at the facility and not obsessed but consumed by the team. He had always been overly emotional but she said he really went deep end. I got the feeling that she was the reason he stepped down for a while.

Yep, football has never made me cry but life has made me bawl like a baby at times. And the holidays can make it doubly hard for someone feeling the pain of loss.
