Always draft BPA but how do you hope the draft falls?

Never draft using BPA, but don't take players rated a lot lower just because of need.

I think what we've done pretty well lately is anticipate the draft and attack FA so that holes in the roster line up with the options in the draft. It might be coincidence, but it certainly seems like Taco, Awuzie, LVE, C.Williams and Gallup were the result of good FA planning. Carr and Hitchens were solid options we allowed to walk and we definitely needed a DE and LG when we drafted Taco and Williams, although I never liked the Taco as a pick.

Our defense finished the season top 5, offense bottom 10. Where do you think 58 is going? Besides, if this is the strongest DL draft in recent years, why use 58 when you can likely get equal talent in 3rd or 4th.

BTW......Stephen Jones has said many times and actually says it every year......he will not spend a premium on 1 tech unless he's super special.

Reluctantly I have to agree with this because I desperately want D Line help but the rational that will be used is the last four teams standing were the top four scoring offenses this year. I forsee a TE or offensive playmaker unless somebody with a first round grade falls off a cliff.

One thing I think we can all agree, they'd like to see 58 as a day-one starter.

No matter how good a player is, if they aren’t realistic projections to start in the next 4-years there’s no point drafting them. That can be scheme fit, or because of the roster or whatever.

For instance:
If we are plan to keep Zeke, and Jaylon there’s no point drafting a feature back or MIKE in the 1st round and it’s dubious even in the 2nd. That’s rich for a backup role in cheap positions. Maybe a RB that can play a slot/return punts but never a Dereck Henry type.

I wouldn’t draft a OC in the 1st/2nd (assuming Fredbeard is healthy) unless they have OG position flex.

I wouldn’t draft a 3-4 OLB, two years ago I would have but if Lawrence returns, with Gregory, Taco, Crawford and Armstrong it’s not gonna give us bang for buck. And I especially wouldn’t gamble of a bad character guy in the position.

The scheme doesn’t utilise a TE that can’t block so it’d take some convincing (New OC) to draft a guy like Fant over Kaden Smith when Smith IMO isn’t as good.

I wouldn’t draft a FS early if we signed Earl Thomas.

BPA isn’t realistic, every roster has positions where a player no matter how talented wouldn’t get used.

Top Tier RB eating DT. If not that, then a real FS who can actually intercept a pass. I think alot of the Oline woes will sort themselves out if we can get the beard back in there, and Williams can add some strength. Not certain Williams wouldn't be better suited at RT than he is at guard, but I am willing to see where he lands.

FS/SS - FA is loaded with decent, veteran Ss who can come in and stabilize the back end...just matter of Stephen spending $. Get one.

NT/3Tech - FA has some guys who can come in and help immediately. M.Collins is in a contract year, so I expect a 3Tech being drafted this year. A veteran NT to pair w/ Woods would be a solid play.

LB - I think C. Covington slides into that SAM spot and DAL drafts a late round guy.

TE - definitely drafting one early...the guy from Texas A&M got some juice.

RB - several FA RBs who could do a good job as a reserve. Ideally, I'd sign a vet than draft and stash Bryce Love for 2020.

OT - L. Collins contract year, draft some leverage 3rd or 4th round. Re-sign Fleming.

BPA is something cute to say unless you add at a position of need behind it.

2nd - TE
3rd - 3Tech
4th - OT
4th - RB (Love)
5th - WR
6th - LB
7th - PK

I like the plan, that’s as earlier as I’d go for Love but like the idea. I think it’s gonna be hard to find a 3rd/4th OT and DT but that’s be ideal.

Yeah, y'all know more about the players and depth of positions in the draft, but I sure hope it goes down something like this.
