How the Rams got 270 yards

I was listening to some radio show on the way home tonight and , apparently, there is a darn good reason the Rams ran the ball so effectively and seemed to have the perfect blocking scheme every snap.

The smart coach (not Garret) picked up on something studying film. Apparently, our DTs have "tells" that give away what they are about to do. I wish I was kidding.

“They have good players, but ... we had a lot of tips and tells on what they were going to do in front of us,” Rams center John Sullivan said.

What were the Cowboys linemen doing? Sullivan and right guard Austin Blythe told The Ringer that depending on how defensive tackles Maliek Collins and Antwaun Woods were set up before a snap, the Rams knew if a stunt was coming. For instance, if “Collins was shaded closer to the tackle instead of the guard, the Rams figured a stunt may be coming,” Danny Heifetz wrote.

“If the Rams saw Collins lined up slightly wider than usual, they looked for a second tell. If a certain Cowboys lineman had a specific hand on the ground—right or left—or if a player was tilted one way or the other, it confirmed what the Cowboys defensive line was going to do.”

“If [the defensive tackle] is going to come in, the tell is going to come in from the other side,” said Blythe, who figured the Rams had a tell on more than 90 percent of the snaps in their 30-22 win Saturday night.

We gave away 90% of the snaps!!!!!

This is disturbing. A good coaching staff will hire someone to evaluate its own team on film and then let them know what "tells" the team has. Then you take that information and use it to mislead the other team. For example, you use one of your "tells" to make the other team read a run up the middle, but you go playaction. Great way to get overpursuit and really burn them. Of course, the team still has to execute. It's not a magic bullet. But if the other team figures out all your "tells" and you're not smart enough to coach in some deception, it's almost as bad as the other team getting your playbook and then listening to all the play calls via radio.

You guys notice how often they kicked the ball in bounds to make Jourdan Lewis return the ball. Jourdan Lewis that never returned kicks before (never in College I think I heard, at least), and fumbled once in the Eagles game? He barely reached the 20 every time. Did we scout their weaknesses and take advantage? No. Because the opposition are faceless, nameless players that don't matter. Idiots.

Better yet, Goff was getting up to line with 15-20 secs on the play clock and studying the jumbo-tron every single time. How much HFA comes into effect with having your AV guys have the right angle every snap? That would be an interesting investigation

I mentioned yesterday that the whole game it looked like the Rams offense was playing 3D Chess while our defense played Connect 4. This pretty much sums up why.

The face mask penalty on B Jones in the 2nd quarter with 4 minutes to go before half was a critical turning point for our defense. We had them stopped for a punt, instead the defense was gassed and allowed a TD on the next couple plays. Score was 13-7 at the time...

Reminds me of a scene from that movie called 'Invincible' with Mark Wahlberg.

Coaching matters.

This makes more sense to me than that our front 7 magically became the worst personnel group in football for one game.

I don't know how you keep Marinelli now. That should never happen in pro football. We are literally the dumbest team in the league. Our own coaching staff didn't notice these things?

Should go to Garrett too. Self scouting is a systemic issue that applies to all squads on the team.

I'm sure this was a valid consideration on the some of the plays. But even if they knew when we weren't going to stunt, or if they knew this was one on one blocking, we were blown off the ball. It was physical domination man vs. man.

It's going to look like you're getting blown off the ball if you're always aiming at exactly the wrong spot and all the Ram's oline has to do is help you get there.

Man, Demarcus Ware ( I believe) was talking about that tell-tale subconscious give away players just naturally put out, after he'd been released by us,,,&,,,helped to " overdid it in Denver",,,said He'd 'tried to point it out to this franchises staff/ during film study sessions & they'd pretty much 'poo-poo'd' it off as poppycock B.S.( ,,,)

well i knew something weird was going on. it just didnt make sense that every guy on the team got his *** handed to him.
i noticed the LB seemed to be way out of position.
i thought LA squeeze there line together to keep our line from shooting gaps.
it was insane to try and figure out what was going on.
our team giving away where they were going just didnt cross my mind that we would be that dumb

They took our d line and threw them out of the way sumo style

It was like watch e Honda fight dan

What they weigh? 300 max. You need some beef up front 340-350 pounds. Those guys are relief guys not starters and then top that off with inept coaching and then you get 273 yards against you. That much rushing you are not losing.
