I really don’t want him as OC either, but what do we as fans really know about his coaching ability?

That is quite sudden.

Most guys earn their way up. He was pretty much thrown into the QB coach role, because he was no longer good enough to make the 53.

Now, by default he’s going to become OC?

Not saying he’s not ever going to be good. But people are promoted for earning it. Not by Linehan being fired and Uncle Jerry doesn’t want to rock the boat.

I just don’t see why.

What has Moore done that was so great to earn this? Spent a year as Qb coach .. now he’s ready to be OC?

No upgrade over Linehan
Pretty much what Garrett did before he became our OC. Moore is now his heir apparent. ;)

What is interesting about this is the connection Moore has to Garrett. Both are career backups and very early on in their careers, they were predicted to be coaches in the NFL because of their knowledge of the game.

Moore has gotten a bad rap here because he gets blamed for the lack of progress at QB or any mistakes but he does have a relationship with Prescott and that is stage 1 of the QC-QB connection. Just like Turner and Aikman had, Turner made sure Aikman understood the offense. And Aikman understood Turner and the two became best friends.

Before anyone goes deep end on this idea, consider the fact that a very well respected coach, Chris Peterson, said Moore was the football smartest QB he'd ever seen. That was what made him successful at BSU, he didn't have the physical gifts that some of these guys have, he had to do it with his head.

Look at these young QB's coming up like Mahomes, Watson, Goff and Trubisky. Look at the relationships they have with their coaches. The Cowboys must get Prescott to be his absolute best and who is to say Moore isn't that guy? Because he hasn't done it? Linehan, evidently, failed to connect with Prescott and that is job 1 of any OC.

I started another thread about all of the candidates having the same issue, the unknown with this offense and QB. At least Moore removes some of that because he's been there for the entire Prescott tenure. Did we know any of these really good OC's were that before they did it?

You too can become the HC/OC of the Dallas Cowboys in 4 easy steps.

Step 1. Become a backup QB with a weak arm and get 17 as your number.

Step 2. Retire and get a job as a QB coach with no coaching experience. Work as a QB coach for a year or two.

Step 3. Get hired by the Cowboys as the OC. Don't worry about being good at being an OC. Just learn to undermine the HC.

Step 4. Backstab the HC at the right time and become the new HC. Profit for 10 years.

Earn what? A mention in a tabloid level rumor? That’s what most of these rumors turn out to be, and these kinds of reactions explain why reporters do it. Even if Moore is on the list it may not be as a serious candidate and may only be to give current coaches the impression advancement is possible.

Hell, I like it......some of the best coaches in the league were backup players. Many wanted Romo as OC and some even as head coach. Not sure this is that much different.....

I am totally cool with Moore as OC, for many reasons that aren't the same as the front office's. I think it would be fun to watch, seeing whether we totally suck or totally rock, which after years of Garrett and Linehan running the O would be a welcome change. If we suck, Garrett's as good as gone next year and we get a real head coach.

But I can't wait to see the spin from the organization as they try to justify this move to the fanbase.

Nussmeier actually had some college success and could be a good answer. Moore I like, just don't think he's ready to run the entire offense.
He also had some failure at FL and MI, his one success, Bama would have a lot of coaches with that as their success. Best D in the game and nothing but 4 and 5 stars on the team with a control freak as your boss.

The job should go to whoever has the best connect with the QB, that's the job and if that's Moore, why not give him a shot? What if, through his connection with Prescott, they can see the field and the D the same? That's what McVay did with Goff and what Nagy has done with Trubisky.

The Cowboys are about to make Prescott the QB of the near future of this team and the objective is to get the best guy to connect with him. Did y'all happen to catch the chemistry on the sideline, or lack thereof, between Prescott and Linehan after a bad series? Good series? No problem, but I watch that kind of stuff and there was little eye contact coming form the QB and that is not good.

They're not looking to hire an OC; they're looking to hire the QB his guy. Just like these other teams they've seen help the QB progress. This isn't about the offense; it is about the QB that they're getting ready to make rich.

It’s Jerry and Dallas. Even if it doesn’t happen, you know it’s strong consideration to happen in house lol

If they do elevate Moore, it means they think he’s an actual rock star. It’s way too fast a move otherwise. So I’d want to see it because I would love the reaction it would get around here.

It’s Rapoport, though. So it’s probably a made up rumor. It also seems unlikely to me that Jerry would take such huge lumps with the learning curve with Moore only to lose him to another team if the giant risk pays off. Better to keep him under wraps and bring in someone more senior to wear the mantle for a year or three.

Fans know absolutely nothing about the job Moore did last season. Yet they’re almost certain he was terrible. This is because mobs don’t think.

Like someone else said, I think people believe this because Moore wasn’t a quality NFL player, and they are willing to ignore the fact that rarely are NFL coaches in any role former top players.

The only realistic argument against Moore was his lack of coaching experience, but nobody here really knows if that has been a problem or not.
