After watching the conference championship games today for the 23rd year without the Cowboys, my depressed mind turned to wondering a sad question- which of the last 23 seasons was “the best”? Still amazes me that none of those 23 included even a divisional playoff win.

But with that said, I would have to say either the
1. 2007 season which was Romo’s breakout season when they went 13-3 and probably had their best team and best chance to win it all.

2. Or the 2016 team that also went 13-3 unexpectedly during Dak and Zeke’s rookie season. It came out of nowhere which made it doubly fun and doubly disappointing when we lost to the packers.

Sad to say that two seasons where we won 13 games yet didn’t win a playoff game are the two seasons I enjoyed most in the last 23.

As a Cowboys fan since 1964, I cannot believe how frustrating it is to watch another season pass without much to show for it.
I enjoyed 2007 the most, other than the last game. I think the 2014 team may have been the best. Unfortunately we didn’t have HFA and that fiasco in GB happened.

2007 and 2014 for all the same previously mentioned reasons. Especially the 2007 squad which I thought was truly something special.

Amazing isn’t it? Those are scraps we have to appreciate.

The Cowboy standard or Cowboy Way from what Landry established to nowadays is a basic embarrassment.

I have developed a deep appreciation for the Patriots to continue to do what they do.

We were once them.

We were once almost them. Now we talk extensions when we win a wildcard playoff game.

Under Tom Landry, the Cowboys won 20 playoff games in the 29 years he was our HC, including winning 5 of the 8 NFC Championships they played in, and 2 SBs. We haven’t sniffed an NFC championship in 23 years. People calling for “patience” don’t know what it used to be like to be a Cowboys fan.

The last 23 years are an embarrassment.

‘16 and ‘18 are mine, followed by ‘07 then ‘14...because I left those years with a smile on my face. ‘07 and ‘14? Really hated the way those ended, and still a bitter pill, but no so with ‘16 and ‘18.

'06 was our year dude, that damn K ball was the start of so much bad luck for Romo in Dallas.

2014.

Should have played in and probably won the NFC Championship Game.

I think we would have lost to the Patriots in the SB however.

With that defense, I don't think we stop A-Rod with the amount of time he would've had.

Eh, I grew up with the 70's Cowboys, endured the 'oh so close' 80's with Danny White, rejoiced in the early-mid 90's with 3 SB victories. Honestly to me everything since has been a let down. Over the past 23 years I've watched this franchise go from a respectable contender to pretty much a joke that hasn't gotten past a wild card win. I guess there have been good moments but even the Browns have those.

I truly dont understand this depression from the Cowboys being down this era like the NFL isn’t still great without us. We saw some great and entertaining football today. One of if not the greatest QB ever and greatest dynasty. And some great young up an coming talent and QB’s.

I guess following an Alma Mater that is a dormant school most years has prepared me for this Cowboy era. My team doesn’t have to be in the mix to enjoy and getting fired up for football. It just makes it more fun when they are. But I don’t need a horse in the race to get into it.

We’ve become more like the rest of the league. We aren’t great just struggling to make the playoffs. It is what it is. At least we have a better excuse than most with Jerry and his foolishness.

I understand the point of your post, but I cannot remember a single season as being “best”.

My first memory as a child was watching a Cowboys game with my dad in 1970. 49 years ago.

During the Landry years, this team was a contender every year, kinda of like the Spurs (who’ve only missed the postseason two or three times in their history).

The Jones years are now the same number of years as the Landry period, but we now are almost never contenders. He hit the lotto with Jimmy and had a miraculous 5-6 year period of being contenders.

There’s no shame in losing in the conference championships, getting there is a major achievement, one this historic postseason drought hasn’t even sniffed.

To me, success is being consistent winners. It takes a bit of luck (preparation meeting opportunity), and that’s a huge problem, Jones doesn’t value coaching. Great coaches put average players in a position to succeed.

Just look at Belichick and Popovich, it’s amazing how they get average players to produce big time for them by having them perform a certain role to the best of their ability.

Romo has this trait, he made average receivers look like all-pro types! It’s why Garrett is unable to win consistently, an inability to get role players to perform, instead he depends on the ability of the player to beat his man with brute force, but in today’s NFL, almost all teams have a fantastic strength and conditioning team along with nutritional guidance. It’s all level now.

Sorry that was long. I don’t think this team will be consistent winner during my lifetime as Stephen Jones is almost my age, meaning the same ownership’s leadership traits will remain in tact.

I see no hope for improvement during my lifetime.

2014 was our best shot at winning a Super Bowl. We weren't beating the Patriots, that defense was completely overrated and the Pats exposed us earlier in the year anyways.

We beat Pats, I think we beat the Seahawks again and we could have kept Brady off the field with Murray running the rock a bunch.

Dude I care 0% how successful the rest of the NFL is, I am tired of Brady going to the Super Bowl though.

I wasnt crushed but it was good because they went from looking like theyd win 6 games to winning a wildcard. It was a decent season. Might have hurt a bit if the rams game was close but it wasnt.

I guess people didn’t care for the season as much as me,but I had a great time this year myself. Really enjoyed it,and wasn’t crushed by losing to just a superior club
