Competition committee considering making pass interference reviewable

The Washington Post's Mark Maske reports the NFL's competition committee will "give consideration" to making pass interference calls reviewable.

Several coaches including Sean Payton, whose team was on the receiving end of a horrific and game-changing non-call on Sunday, have been in favor of making pass interference reviewable, and it sounds like there is a possibility they will get their wish. "It will be discussed at length along with additional fouls that coaches feel should be subject to review," a source told Maske. A more comprehensive and streamlined review system could help, but the NFL has a serious refereeing issue which needs to be addressed.

Games are gonna take longer. Guess it depends on how they do it.

Like holding it probly happens most pass plays.

If they make them reviewable by using the challenge system, it will not add to time delays.
But do not make every one reviewable. Keep them with the current challenge rules. Or each team can have an additional challenge specifically for PI.

Bad idea. It's going to double the flags and extend the games.

I'm for more review, but with about 1/4 the number of rules in the rulebook.

The NFL needs to stop placating the PC side of this society and be what it is.

Odd this wasn’t an issue when the Seahawks got a pick in the end zone after mugging Brown. But affect another team? Yep, we better fix it. Typical NFL screw job.

Coaches still only have 2 challenges, 3 if they're lucky.

I'm pretty sure the 2 hours of commercials have more impact on how long the games take than anything else.

To me, this is the dumbest part of replay.

So a referee squad could make 20 of the worst calls in NFL history in a single game, and a coach can only fix 3 of them?

The whole system is just stupid.

Not if they make them a coaches challenge. You should be able to challenge flagrant non PI calls like what happened in the Saints game yesterday. It has to be an obvious missed call to challenge it or you’ll lose a time out.

Lol. Still gonna have bad and missed calls. Teams will use the challenge flag and there will be a even worse call later in the game and they will have no flags left or something like that. Teams will still get shafted. The non call last night was unreal and wouldn’t have been a ticky tack call. It was just blown so bad.

The refs see it on the replay like that and they should be able to throw a flag at that point. That would have been acceptable for that situation. It was shown on every big screen in the stadium. They could clearly see it was missed.

I hear you, but yesterday was absolutely incredible. The Rams defender completely admitted to it afterward and laughed about it.

That call literally would have sent the Saints to the Super Bowl. A chip shot field goal on the last play of the game with a great kicker. Vanished.

And imagine being a Saints fan. Last year, you got knocked out by a crazy play in Minnesota, and now this.

Not sure how this is going to work. Called PI reviewable, non-called PI reviewable? How many times a game? Seems like receivers want a flag on every play. If they limit the number of times that you can review it, will coaches just save it for the fourth quarter? Seems like this would change the game and maybe not for the better. The non-calls last night in the Saints-Rams game were horrendous, but if you make PI reviewable where does it stop?

Who didn't see this coming (refs?)?

Anyway, this officials are so bad they'll find other way to ruin a game.

They can just send it to commercial to kill of that allotted time.... instead of hearing the commentators shuffle their ideas on air to us while a camera zooms into the face of a sweating official who is 2 inches away from an Ipad (it will hurt your eyes kiddo being that close) trying to give his opinion of the play

Been implemented in the CFL for years. Bad idea as games will drag on. I don't like it let the refs make decisions.

How about instead of a regular challenge flag, they have a plea, in which they have a few chances to ask the officials to just look at the replay one time from two opposite angles. If it isn't obvious enough the challenge is lost. It would be quick and fair.
