The price is the price. Dak didn't set it, the league did.

But do we have to be as stupid as the rest of the league, look at the vikings now and how smart that contract was. Anything less than 25M I would not have a problem with, like 24M. 30, 29 and 28 should be top 3 or 4 starters after that the price tag should start going down.

This thread isn’t an anti or pro Daks ability thread. It’s just a fact thread. Dakota Rayne Prescott will 100% be paid at or around market value, or 30M. Except a deal anywhere from 27-32M dollars.

I like the kid, but I don't see a championship caliber QB. I see a good QB with great leadership skills who is very competitive. Good traits, but at some point you have to be the guy who carries the team to a TD with exceptional skill in a big game. I don't see it.

He's more likely to join the ranks of Dalton, Stafford, Smith, and Cousins - too good to cut but not good enough to win titles. Teams are afraid to move on from them, so they write the big check and hope. Let me know when one of those guys wins something.

Contracts are getting out of hand. An average qb making like 25-30 mil a year is crazy. But that's the price I guess

I really don’t understand why the Cowboys are so eager to basically tell the world he’s going to be one of the highest paid QBs in the league. He is making pennies next year and even with the tag in 2020, you get 2 years for 28 million. He is 100% going to want the new deal to start this year.

Let’s do some math. If they decide not to extend him and make him play out this year before giving him a new deal he will make 2 million in 2019. Even if he gets 28 million annually over a 6 year deal after that, that brings the total to ~170 over 7, or 24.2 per season. Even if they decide to tag him twice, it should be around 3 for 57, or 19 per season. This is oversimplified because it doesn’t get into guarantees, but it does show how handing him a 28 AAV deal is completely out of line.

Handing him a 23 million per year deal with 60 million guaranteed is more than fair. He gives a little over the max he could earn over the next 7 years, but gets 2019 torn up and doesn’t have to worry about getting hurt or having a significant downturn in play. Handing him 28 million per year is unnecessary and a significant overpay, not to mention completely out of line with what he should theoretically be making if the Cowboys actually decide to negotiate like every other team.

I wish we had two more years before we had to pay. This year and one without Garrett. He might really thrive once Garrett is gone, but if he doesn't then we're going to feel like the Vikings fans that know they overpaid for Cousins.

I’d make him play it out just because I’m in no rush to turn a 2 million QB into a 25 million+ QB. If he’s the guy, he’s still going to be worth that next season and they can tag him for 3 years if necessary. However you look at it, 2 million plus 3 years of the tag is still going to be cheaper than an extension over the next 4 years if this 28 million per year is actually real. There should be no rush to hand him a fat check unless he wants to sign for a reasonable number. His salary this year should be leverage plain and simple.

$22.5M/yr - Dak will get more than 6 Super Bowl winning QBs, and 7 SB participants. (Cam, Foles, Big Ben, Brady, Flacco, Eli, Russell)

I agree the scale has moved up where lesser QBs make more than these guys: Carr (25), A. Smith (23.5), Stafford (27), Jimmy G. (27.5) and Cousins (28). FYI - Luck (24.6) Brees (25)

$29M/yr - Dak becomes the 3rd highest paid QB in the league. (Ryan n Rodgers)

$22.5M is Top 10 pay.
Is Dak a Top 10 QB?
Is Dak better than either: Jimmy G., Stafford or Carr?

Just putting real numbers out here for better discussion...for what it's worth.

Give me Dak in crunch time any day of the week. Most game winning drives since he’s been in the league. Defense makes that 4th down Goff garbage stop and I bet Dak takes that game.

He’s the most unique game manager ever. Nick Wright calls it “play making game manager”. He might be conservative or even pedestrian at times but he has the uncanny ability to make that play when you need it. Thats a trait I’ll take over guys like Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan who choke when it’s game time.

Yes, Dak is better than Jimmy G, Stafford and Carr. You've seen Dak play for 3 seasons now. You know he's better. Why keep asking such an ignorant question?

Anything over $25/26m per year and I say Bye Bye. Sell the house, bet the farm and sell your soul to trade with the Jets at #3 for one of the top 3 qb’s. Rather pay a young stud who can actually throw the ball $8m per year and have him on a 5 year bargain basement contract than pay $27m per year for 21 td’s and 3k yards.

I agree with you exactly, but you were to kind as all of the qb’s that you mentioned are better at actually throwing the ball. Dak has them in the traits that u mentioned but all of them are just more physically gifted. Dak is a LB’er playing QB.
