If Frederick returns to near All Pro Level, you could definitely get 100 yards rushing games out of Johnson if he has to sub for Elliott. Duke came into the NFL projected as a featured back

Zeke isn't coming out enough to utilize Duke, waste of money...

He can play three positions, RB, slot, and WR, similar to Percy Harvin. In fact, I see no reason why Moore couldn't design some packages with him and Zeke on the field together. We can basically pay him with Beasley's money. But I'm 100% confident Stephen already has that figured out if the rumor is true.

Would be the ideal CoP scatback to complement Zeke. Anything 5th rounder or less, is a yes for me.

Zeke - Bell cow

Rod Smith - Backup bell cow - barring injury to Zeke, he gets 4-5 total snaps including 2-3 carries per game

Duke Johnson - gets majority of 3rd and 4+ type snaps plus some help at slot receiver/motion outside receiver. Basically a rich man's Lance Dunbar in the DeMarco Murray era.

Rod Smith and bell cow are probably not meant to be in same paragraph. Even as a backup.

They need to stop looking for a "complimentary" back to go with Zeke and they just need to look for another good all around RB.

Exactly. This medieval times school of thought that you need 1 rb and everyone else is a backup or a "compliment" is so 1995.

How doesn't it fit?

They traded a 1st-round pick for a player like 6 months ago.

That move is basically an outlier to their usual MO and brought about by their utter incompetence in putting an inept WR corp together. I would love for them to make moves like this. Get a proven NFL player for a pick you were planning on drafting a similar style of player. I’m all for it. Unfortunately, their MO is to draft a player in the mid to late rounds, have a low salary, and hope for the best. That is what I expect here. They aren’t backed into a corner at RB so I expect them to go with the cheap rookie.

like the player but couldn't you just draft a younger, cheaper version?

I don't think this is it. I think that the team might actually prefer to have two backs but, they have made an investment in Zeke and now they have to get value. Zeke is a guy who wants every carry. He tells you this every time you watch him play. He is forever with the feed me thing. This is not about the team IMO. This is about keeping Zeke happy. He wants carries, he wants records and the minute you change that, you are going to have problems with Zeke. Zeke is coming up on a contract. You think he's going to sign with a team who is going to cut his touches by a third? That's not going to happen. There is more going on here then just "Yeah, lets bring in this guy and stop being 1995."

I think you gotta factor in Zeke because he's not going to be ok with losing snaps IMO.

Jerry has been in love with Metcalf and Sproles and hasn't stopped looking for one.

Poor Duke. He'd be going from being criminally underused in Cleveland to being criminally underused here.

Just for some background context, ABQ is the same guy that claimed the Durant/Warriors pairing would never work out because “nobody will be willing to take less shots.”

His thoughts on Zeke and Duke (or name your RB) are just a repackaged version of that oversimplified bunk theory.

Zeke was absolutely worn down by seasons end and was calling to be taken off the field himself during the last quarter of the season and understandably so.

If this team has any designs on making a deep playoff run, Zeke is going to be leading the charge. The idea is to have a backup that can competently shoulder some of the load over the course of the season to keep him fresh.

This notion of “who’s gonna tell Zeke” is comedy.
