During his first three seasons Mark Sanchez was 27-20 in the regular season and 4-2 in the play offs.

He was an embarrassment.

Just making the point that having a winning record as a QB does not make him the nuts. There are other players in a team...
The talented team around him is a huge part of his success. But he has already shown more than sanchez has. He has had a amazing 3 years for a rookie. I remember the years of not having a QB other than Romo that could win a game for us.

The people that don’t like Dak or think he is average are going to continue to think that no matter what.

I like him. For years we could find a QB that could win us a game if Romo was injured. We get a guy in the 4th round that JJ didn’t really want. He comes in and out performs some of our other backups and steps into preseason lighting it up. Romo goes down and he plays a 13-2 season. If he played the last game we would have been 14-2. Plays so well that he wins the starting job over Romo. In his first 3 seasons he has put numbers up that are amazing.

He will have a large contract and be our starting QB. Does he have issues to work on. YES. He will get a little more accurate this season and will be reading defenses and making his reads a little better so he isn’t holding on to the ball so long. The game will start slowing down for him even more. He has a talented team around him and that has a lot to do with his success. But I have seen him take the team in his back and drive down the field also. He isn’t just a bus driver. But sometimes that’s all you need.
Well said, Glim.

You don't think he will ever have some of the same types of lines that Romo had to deal with? The line has too many players on it to always be great.
Romo dealt with bad OL in 2010, 11 and 12. I don't think the FO will let that happen again. They have shown over the past 8 years they will take care of that position group. They've missed just like all teams do but they will continue to try to keep it at a high level.

I do not understand why/how anyone would compare what Dak Prescott has done in his first three years compared to what Tony Romo did on a team over a decade ago...

Completely different teams as were the teams Matt Cassell played with and Dak Prescott.

Also, during his first three seasons as a starter Aaron Rodgers had a winning record of...27-20. The same as Mark Sanchez!

:lmao2:

I guess Prescott does deserve the $30 million annual salary...silly me.

We have had truly exceptional value for Prescott on his rookie contract but we are about to pay the price for that and be knee capped due to his long term contract.

After this season we will effectively be wasting $10 million a season from our cap space given Prescott is worth around $18-$20 million a season not $28-$30 million.

So we are about to be even more irrelevant...shame.

I don’t think any QB is worth that but it’s a market price that seems to go up every year and if the FO believed he is the future starting QB then Daks agent is going to ask for the going rate. He had a good team around him for these first 3 years and it’s helped him a lot. No doubt. But he has shown leadership and can make the plays in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. Some will argue that if he played better in the first 3 quarters that maybe the 4th quarter heroics wouldn’t be necessary. But like everyone says it’s a team game.

Sorry, bub, but I'm a Cowboy's fan for life. Once you are a fan of a team, you should always be a fan of that team, doesn't mean you should agree with all their stupid moves. So you must love garret and the coaches too since Jerrah picked them out for ya. so don't blame them next year or other players Jerrah picked for you if dak does bad.

Yeah, some fans think it's mandatory to check their brain at the door and rubber stamp everything the team says or does.

That's because they prefer to leave the 'burden of thinking' to someone else.

We should let him play out this season then let him go - we will have got great value for a fourth round pick. He would have a few takers - e.g. Jacksonville, Miami - I would be interested to see how he got on at those type of teams.

We draft another bus driver, hopefully with more pocket presence in 2020 then we continue striving to progress.

When Drew Brees is costing $25 million, the thought of Prescott costing this team more than that is insane. Especially two years minimum before they actually have to pay it.

Categorically insane.

If and when this team does such a thing, they deserve every loss they get. And they don't deserve to ever again ask "why this is so hard".

Who in the nfl do you put Dak on their level? More specifically, what qb playing right now so you compare him too as far as talent level?

Andy Dalton
Brian Hoyer (but Prescott has wheels)
Case Keenum (but Prescott is better with his legs)
Marcus Mariota
Blake Bortles
Alex Smith - probably the best example as they are similar in most disciplines.

I think those would be the QB's I would put on the same level of Dak Prescott - although that might be harsh on Smith and Dalton.

I rate Derek Carr and Ryan Tannehill higher than Prescott but I know that some would put them on a similar level so we could include them as well.

I think Mariota, Smith and Dalton are the most similar for various reasons.

It's insane when people say Dak should get 20m a year when Carr, Jimmy G, Cousins and Stafford are getting 25-28m. It's insane that people dont understand how the cap and contracts work and with in 2 years 28m a year will barely get you in the top 10 paid qbs.

The avg annual isn't what people need to worry about, its the gutantees he'll get. The avg annual is a easy way to slot guys. It's for agents to brag and players to brag on where they're slotted in the nfl. It's for fans to argue how much a player deserves.

Alex Smith is better than Dak as a passer, but I think that's the guy Dak could be at his pinnacle. Neither guy likes to go downfield much.

So because other teams have signed bad contracts, we should too? No thanks.

Of course it is, but if these numbers being talked about here are accurate, I'm sure these dummies will be guaranteeing him a ton of money too. If they're dumb enough to overpay him two years too soon, they're surely dumb enough to guarantee a ton of that money too.

I'm not giving them any undeserved benefit of the doubt if they're seriously considering doing this deal now.

That's a wide varity of qbs that I don't think are in the same level as each other.

If you think he's most comparable to Smith then he should get 25m a year. If you include carr and tannehill in the convo then he should get 25-28m. If you put him with Dalton then he should get 23m. If you think he should get 18-20m then that would be putting him with Keenan and Bortles, which we would have to agree to disagree. One was just traded because they picked up Flacco and the other was benched for Kessler and about to be a back up.

I personally would not include him at the same level as Carr or Tannehill but the point I was making was that I appreciate that others do.

I think Prescott sits in between Dalton, Keenam and Bortles hence around $20 million would seem about right.

You missed out Brian Hoyer

I left out Marcus because he's still on his rookie contract. I left at Hoyer because, well, I'm not even going to try to debate someone on if Dak is better than Hoyer. Lol it's hard for me to mention Keenam and Bortles in the same sentence and feel like it lowers my football IQ but at least they've seen a championship game.

Of course your going to put him there since that's fits in your 18-20m range. Although Dalton would put him at 23m. You said that Smith would be the best example and that would put him at 25m a year, above your 18-20m.

It's just hard to have a conversion with someone who mentions Bortles, Keenan and especially Hoyer when talking about who Dak compares too. Smith, Carr and even Tannehill and Dalton I can have a conversation about. But the others are laughable and shows the blindness of people on Dak, whether it's a Romo fan still mad, a person who didn't like the pick to begin with and refuses to change it or a person with just a low football IQ. Who knows, but there are going to be a lot of upset fans when he gets that contract.

Yes. He gets the L put next to his name for all the Ls. Even the one's when his offense scored 31 and 30 pts vs the packers and rams in 2017 but the defense gave up 35 and we lost. Just like he gets a W next to his name for the 6-0 win vs Philly in 2017 and the 13-10 win vs the saints this past season.

He's 33-18, including playoffs. After each game we can, and will debate who gets credit for it, but at the end of the day and the end of his career, he'll have a W or a L next to his name for that specific game. Like I said in a earlier comment, Aikman is the winningest QB in the 90s. No one went back and watch the games and decided who actually was the reason they won those game's. They just go off if the team won or not. Smith didn't get the Ws or Ls next to his name. The OL didn't get the Ws or Ls next to their name. No one on the defense got a W or a L.

There is a reason why the qb gets paid like they do. There is a reason why they get too much credit after a win at times and scrutinized too much after a loss.

The QB has always got Ws put next to his name. There is a reason why, if you search most winningest QB you'll find multiple sites and articles that keep up with it and talk about it. People act like this something new because people bring it up in a Dak debate and the non Dak fans get their panties in a knot over it. I'm sure most have used in the past when it was a QB they liked and it fit their narrative.

I get what you are saying and it is true that many do illogically credit the one player above all the others but it is also true that this line of thinking is simple minded and lazy.

As most every parent in the history of the world has said at one time or another... "If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you follow them?".

I don't see at as lazy. For the most part, your top winning qbs ever are also wildly consider good or great qbs. There always outliers. Someone posted Sanchez reocord after 3 years. But when you look at closely it's easy to see he wasnt great or even that good and now it's a .500 winning record. He was a outlier.

I've always said and many others have to, qbs get too much credit and too much blame. Dak doesn't deserve credit for a 6-0 win just like he doesnt deserve blame for a 35-31 lost. At the end of the day, the qb and coach will get Ws and Ls next to their name. It's been that way for ever and it will stay that way. They will usually weigh themselves out over a season and especially a career. For every W they get in a game they didn't deserve the W and played like ****, they'll get a L for a game they played great in but lost.

I can say this, in my 20+ years of debating football subjects, I've never had this specific debate. I've never seen so many people shocked that a QB actually gets credit for wins. I never seen so many people aggravated that a QB is getting credit for wins.
