Something Weird Going On With ET

Virtually every really good safety has signed but him.

Only two teams left that need a safety, Dallas and SF. However, reports are SF has not contacted or spoken to ET or his representatives. Teams are avoiding ET like he has the plague. Only three logical explanations.

1. ET has such crazy money demands nobody is even bothering, but reports are he wants $14 a year which is not that much more than what some others got.

2. ET injury history is scaring teams off. This doesn’t really jive since his injuries were bone breaks and not soft tissue. There should be no increased risk involved since broken bones actually get stronger when they heal.

3. He has the parameters of a deal in place with Dallas already and he is shopping it around. Teams know any offer they make he will just take back to Dallas to match so they are just not bothering. Teams are not stupid and don’t like be played with.

I think number 3 is the most realistic scenario right now in all honesty. Makes the most sense.

I think you may be overlooking some things and perhaps engaging in wishful thinking re: #3.

Regardless of the nature of prior injuries, 9 year veterans don't tend to get healthier in years 10, 11, and 12. After 6 seasons without missing a game ET has now missed 19 in the 3 years.

Also, while no one here minded it other teams saw what he did in Seattle. His frolicking with the Cowboys beginning in 2017 through his holdout last year - all while under contract - didn't do him any favors in the eyes of GMs across the NFL (except maybe in Dallas). Flipping them the bird on his way out in Aizona was just the icing on the cake.

He had a great career in Seattle and was paid well for it, and that's how he acts? Again, no one here will care - especially starry-eyed ET fan boys - but guys who hand out big contracts in the NFL notice those things.

Easy to run around, through and over someone when you already know what they're doing.

You go ahead and play chess when the other guy already knows your every move.

Just for sake of argument, I can see this being an issue in the passing game defense running game it's Smash Mouth down your throat. And that's what they did to us. So

Great post, people have them sized up already and everybody else like him we have camaraderie in this locker room. I don't think they want to disturb it. Just one small aspect but great post

an incentive laden deal for 2 years that has potential to pay him what he wants, I do that all day. No guaranteed money.

He won't sign anywhere for that. His issue with the Seahawks not giving him a new contract with guaranteed money was that the player took all the financial risk and the team none. I hate to see it, but the NFL is moving more and more to a higher % of contracts being guaranteed. It'll still be awhile, but I think eventually NFL contracts become the same as MLB and NBA in being fully guaranteed in some form. E.g., rookies through 4 years of service have non-guaranteed contract (other than bonus), but at 5+ years, any contract becomes fully guaranteed. The effect if that comes to fruition will be for teams to perpetually churn the roster to avoid the guaranteed contracts. There will be obvious exceptions.

Or conspiracy theory, after his finger salute teams are backing the Seahawks not his selfish attitude...

BRUTAL post. Did he take a knee too? Old white men (NFL owners) couldn't care LESS about his middle finger to the Seahags coaching staff getting carted off. Trust me. They're all about winning, and if character mattered then about 25% of the guys taken in the draft would be UFA's.

And one more thing: NOBODY is more 'selfish' than NFL teams and their front office so if a player isn't a little selfish, he'll end up used, poor and broken down. We know most of them are used and broken down after retirement so the obvious goal is to not be poor. You know, kind of like the rest of us and especially NFL teams which are getting filthy rich off guys like ET.

Rant over.

FANS rate ET top overall free agent safety, not sure teams do.

He is 5 years away from his last All Pro season, 2 of the last 3 seasons have ended in serious injury with a gruesome one last year.
I don't see any teams racing to pay 14M for a guy that is 29 with that injury history.
The two places he would make the scheme sing are SEA/DAL and I don't see either trying to pay him even 12M per year.

Dallas has a starting FS that has missed 2 games in his career, costs you 750K and is 23 years old.

ET would be better if healthy but would he be 20x better? DAL is willing to pay 10X more apparently.

Although I understand your point. Back in the days Tom Landry. If a player was disrespectful on the sidelines. He just ruined his career no other coach would touch him. But yes times have changed its become a win or lose Football League. Sad what happened to morals Integrity football players. Now I called him money Players

I mean it’s like totally bizzare that a guy over 30 coming off his second broken leg isn’t the first safety being scooped up in fa...:omg:

A fracture of a non-weight bearing bone (tibia) is gruesome?

The longer it goes on the more I get the feeling he's going to be a Cowboy.

And it's not a case of hope as I don't really even want him other than to shut you guys the hell up about it.

If we're sitting here at the end of the week and he's still not signed it would be pretty apparent something is going on with Dallas. There would be no other reason to wait that long.
